That’s Louis Rossman, a repair technician and YouTuber, who went viral recently for railing against Apple. Apple purposely charges a lot for repairs and you either have to pay up or buy a new device. That’s because Apple withholds necessary tools and information from outside repair shops. And to think, we were just so close to change.

Reblog if you:
Have an iPhone and are in need of repairs
Have a friend with that problem
Hate Apple and are more than happy to spite them in some way
No one will know which is it
This guy inspired me to repair my own macbook. First of all, you should know that I am not… like, I have to look up HOW to look up what my computer specifications are. Tech, that ware either soft or hard, is not a subject in which I experience comfort or competence. But my puppy peed on my keyboard, and I asked the apple store, or the fucking mac cafe, or the godsdamn Computer House Chill Zone or whatever cute ass name they have for their bullshit store, and they said it would be TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPLACE MY KEYBOARD. I’m not even exaggerating.
So I asked the internet, well how hard IS it to repair? And I saw this guy’s video, and while I am no techie, I AM fueled by spite, so I was all “oh, they do that shit on purpose specifically so they can charge me $1200 bucks or make me buy a new computer hunh? FUCK THEM” and I bought all the tools I needed for about $25 and I bought all the parts I needed for about another $25 and I watched a few tutorial videos, and I replaced my own keyboard.
So, once you are doing the actual deed, it becomes pretty obvious that they are finding creative ways to make this much harder than it has to be on purpose. On thing that stood out to me is, instead of all the tiny screws being the same size, there are about two dozen very slightly different sizes. They could easily be all the same size, or like, two sizes at most, but no.
These mother fuckers will take a panel that screws into place and they’ll use a different size screw for each corner. They are so close that you almost cannot tell them apart visually, but they each will only screw into the matching corner. Like, it’s a pretty clear “fuck you” to anyone trying to do repairs.
anyway, this guy is also fueled by spite, and doing holy work, and I have mad respect
This is awesome. Man is doing good ass deeds 24/7 because he’s giving people control.
How dare you not leave a link to his channel, this guy is the savior of the modern world.

iFixit is a global community of people helping each other repair things. Let's fix the world, one device at a time. Troubleshoot with expert
And if you need the ‘proprietary’ tools; go here!
I Fixit is actually how I repaired my dad’s old iphone 12 and then claimed it as my own!
ifixit also makes kits and instruction for nearly every part for consoles, computers, phones, tablets, just about anything. We’ve replaced multiple parts on our old 3Dses at this point. It’s not nearly as hard as you might assume and very worth it to learn how to repair your own electronics.

I'm probably gonna get yelled at for saying this but sometimes something isn't a real problem in fandom, you just learned a Japanese word describing a general fandom practice and got scared and decided it meant "The Bad Ones" of that practice
Whenever you see someone being like "we don't mind when women enjoy or even create m/m content, we just hate fujoshis" you are being racist. If you mean "I hate the way some female fans treat gay men like fetish objects" then say that, and we can have a conversation based on that, but "fujoshi" is, I cannot stress this enough, just a word for any woman who likes M/M content, for better or worse. It may have started out as a reclaimed insult (by the way, the insult was based on "liking gay shit makes you perverted and sinful," not "please respect the humanity of gay men") but it does not make a distinction between The Good Ones and The Bad Ones. You just decided to No True Scotsman it and that the English word for that should describe The Good Ones and the Japanese word for it should describe The Bad Ones
Same goes for the people I saw just the other day whose discord server explicitly disallowed "Yaoi" but said that M/M content was allowed. What they meant was "M/M content is allowed as long as it isn't pornographic and fetishistic." What they actually said was "M/M content is allowed, but M/M content is strictly forbidden," and expected you to understand that the Japan-Adjacent term has porn/fetish connotations while the English-language term for THE SAME THING refers to the "normal, non-perverted" version.
It'd be like if you used the word "cartoons" to refer to all Family-Friendly animation, regardless of style or country of origin, whether it's Japanese or American or French or whatever, and used the term "anime" to refer to all animated pornography regardless of style or country of origin. There's plenty of animated pornography that isn't Japanese! There's plenty of anime that's not pornographic! But this is the sort of thing you do when you say shit like "obviously women can read stories about gay men, but NO FUJOSHIS"
OP is correct and smart for saying this. this is related to/a subset of how people are about non-fandom foreign words, too, like how people say "Christians worship God (good), Muslims worship Allah (bad and scary)" when gues swh. gu. guess what. gues s w hat Allah mea. guess what the word "Allah" means--!!
I appreciate how supportive everyone is of each other on DS9. Nog joining Starfleet his Dad Rom supports him 100%. Bashir getting closer with Garak, telling Sisko about it and Sisko is like well I guess you will need a new suit. Worf being invited by Jadzia to hunt for the ultimate Klingon Sword. O’Brien being on a winning streak in darts and everyone cheering him on. Sisko poisoning a planet to get Eddington and Jadzia being like well I guess Starfleet doesn’t need to know.
Wanted to see if i could fill up a hair texture chart with just my drawings! i don’t think it’s 100% accurate to real life but i did my best. If you want to give it a try with your own art, i made a blank version:
“my bonnie lies over the ocean, my bonnie lies over the sea,”
are we talking about the same body of water here, which is weird, or different bodies of water, which is even weirder
this makes more sense if you assume both are the same body of water but the time between the statements is about 50 million years
you’re right, that’s significantly less weird
toasthaste said: maybe there’s more than one bonnie
blocked
A hypothesized geography.
i bless the bonnie over africa
The bonnie is in geosychronous orbit, thus over all the Earth’s bodies of water
the bonnie is merely moving very fast, perhaps at hypersonic velocity, relative to the singer
my bonnie lies over the ocean
my bonnie’s exceeding mach 3
Representation matters.
Happy Star Trek Day!
I was at DragonCon one year when Avery Brooks was on a panel, and a Black dude stood up and talked about how the year DS9 came on, he became the sole custodial guardian of his small son, and he was *terrified* and felt helpless, because he hadn’t really had a father himself, and he didn’t really know any Black fathers he particularly wanted to emulate, and no Black single fathers at all. He talked about how every week he’d put his kid to bed and sit down and watch Deep Space Nine, and think to himself, “Okay, this, I want us to be this kind of father and son,” and how, silly as it might sound, the idea that Ben could be there for Jake, all the time, successfully, and earn his admiration and trust, was the only source he really had of inspiration, the only voice that was telling him he could handle this job.
I swear to fuck there was a whole auditorium of people in tears by the time he was done, including both him and Brooks. It was one of the most beautiful moments I ever saw about the sometimes bloodless-sounding term “representation,” and about fandom in general, and I will never forget it.
It's Disability Pride Month, so here's some writing tips from me, a full-time professional author who is disabled and lives with multiple chronic illnesses.
I deal with chronic pain and fatigue, executive dysfunction, brain fog, and mobility issues. I have been a professional author sinve 2021.
1. Write what YOU want to write, not what the world needs or what people say you should write.
You don't owe the world representation or inspiring words on the subject of your pain or disability. Write what moves you and that YOU feel passionate about. You don't have to JUST write about disability.
2. Let daily goals motivate you, not shame or frustrate you
It's great to write or work daily if you can, but if you need a rest day or time to decompress, it's better to let yourself do that than power through and set yourself up for exhaustion, pain, or a flare-up. Give your body grace.
3. Let it take time
When you're disabled, it feels like time is constantly being stolen from you - by your fatigue or accessibility issues, by administrative burden, by the amount of time it takes to communicate things, etc.
Writing will take more time too, and that's okay.
4. Swap Between Projects
If you struggle to focus on one project at a time, it's not cheating or abandonment or undisciplined to swap between multiple drafts and ideas. Let yourself enjoy the process. Let things marinate and come back to them months later. Follow your passion in the moment.
5. Feed the tank
People say that good writers need to read, and sure, if they can, that's great - but "reading" doesn't just mean reading a book. You're engaging with the text from a craftsman's perspective: how did they write it? Why does it work or not work? What can you learn from it?
If you can't focus on text right now or can't hold a book, you can still apply those questions and skills to other media: to videogames, movies, TV, the news, to art, to music. You're taking apart in your head or in conversation, seeing how it works, and taking lessons for yourself.
All of that gives you skills, and should also give you inspiration. Everything doesn't come from nothing in your imagination: you need to fuel that engine with stories, characters, ideas, and feelings that you find inspiring, exciting, and fun.
Hey do you know what rumination is?
Rumination is probably the most common type of OCD compulsion, but I rarely see anyone talking about it. I've talked to multiple people diagnosed with OCD who didn't even recognize it as a compulsion.
Basically, if you have OCD you have terrible intrusive thoughts. They can be about anything, but common themes are fear of being a bad person, fear of hurting someone, fear of contamination. etc.
Rumination is when you get stuck in a spiral. Rumination is when you spend hours catastrophizing, overthinking, analyzing, telling yourself it's going to be okay.
I'll say it again:
Rumination is a compulsion.
Rumination is a compulsion, and that means you have to stop doing it.
I did ERP (exposure response prevention) for my OCD with a therapist! For 9 months! And it did help, but the idea didn't really click until I found this website a couple years later.
And Oh My God. It made things make so much more sense, and I was able to pull myself out of an episode even though I wasn't in therapy or on meds at the time.
Genuinely if you have OCD, or even if you suspect you have OCD, I'm begging you to read some of these articles.
Like this was genuinely life changing for me.
Here are some of the ones that were most helpful to me:

How to Stop Ruminating
