I was talking to my mom about how I was trying to make sense of the timeline for 31 October- 1 November 1981 in Harry Potter and she asked “So are you going to post that on fanfiction?”

What if, and hear me out here, the lightning theif went down the exact same way…. Except Percy was a year older. He’s still in the same grade since he got held back a year (which is it really that hard to believe? He’s Percy Jackson.) and somehow just assumed Grover knew. And he never says anything. He’s a year older than Annabeth and since he’s such a nice kid he doesn’t tease her. So she thinks their the same age because let’s be real, he probably doesn’t look more different then he would have.

Then when he finally heard the prophecy, everyone’s counting his age as if he’s a year younger and that’s when it hits him. They don’t know.

But not he’s too deep in the lie to back out. He’s too awkward to tell them. He doesn’t want to see their horrified faces so he stays quiet. Everyone thinks they have another year before the prophecy but Percy knows. And only he does. Maybe Chrion knows too but he doesn’t say anything. Then, the war starts early. Annabeth thinks the war will just last a full year. But Percy knows otherwise. When he finally ends the war, everyone’s relieved and thankful.

Until Annabeth mentions Percy is “Only 15.”. And Percy just kinda grabs her arms and whispers something in her ear. Dead silence follows.

Before Annabeth yells the biggest long string of curse words ever heard by demigods.

through a series of misunderstandings, Percy is under the impression everyone knows how old he is and the mixup isn’t discovered until a few days before the final battle sending everyone’s plans into chaos.

Harry was just thinking that all he needed was for Dumbledore’s pet bird to die while he was alone in the office with it, when the bird burst into flames.

Harry: Quirrel tried to choke me out.

Harry: Of course, Professor Lupin didn't mean it. He just forgot his potion, but still, totally went werewolf on me.

Umbridge: MR. POTTER-

Harry: And then Moody turned out to be an escaped Death Eater in disguise.

Umbridge: POTTER!

Harry: So, yeah, I figure it's 100% you'll attack me in June, 50/50 you'll try to kill me, with a 25% chance of an Unforgivable curse.

Harry: (Turns to Hermione)

Harry: Did I get the math right?

Hermione: Yes.

Lost time

Something that I think doesn't get enough attention is how much time Sirius missed because of Azkaban in a cultural/political sense. Sirius was in Azkaban from 1981-1993, but he probably started to lose touch with the world when Lily and James first heard about the prophecy and his life became more and more consumed by the war. So basically Sirius goes into near complete isolation at the end of the 70s, and then escapes in the early/mid 90s. And he doesn't just have to experience culture shock, but deals with it completely on his own. And FOR TWO YEARS he not only navigates this strange new world, he evades capture from both magical and muggle law enforcement and travels internationally. I know I've made a post like this before but I am honestly so obsessed with this.

A theory on Albus Severus's name

Harry Potter knows for a fact that the afterlife exists. Meaning that he knows, somewhere, Albus and Severus are spending eternity with people who know about and may resent them for their bad choices and mistakes. He named Albus Severus after them, not to honor their memory, but to show everyone beyond the veil that he was ready to move on and forgive everything they had done to him, that he didn't want anyone to resent them on his behalf. Because he knew for a fact that when he crossed over to the other side of the veil, he wanted the war to be over. He didn't want to spend his afterlife surrounded by the pain and resentment of the war he worked so hard to move past. Of course he doesn't know if it will work, and he knows that people's resentment goes deeper than just anger on his behalf, but he had to try. And anyway, he doesn't want to spend his own afterlife holding onto resentment.

If I were ever at Hogwarts they would have a bitch of a time sorting me in like

I’m too much of a scared cat to be a Gryffindor. I’m not smart enough for the Ravenclaw riddles. Neither am I loyal or kind enough for Hufflepuff. And I’m too distracted to be an ambitious Slytherin.

They’d probably have to create a new house “None of the above” for people like me.

But that's also literally what Harry was thinking before he got sorted. So I guess it means that you're destined to go on extraordinary adventures to discover more about yourself and ultimately be the hero of the story.

I always pictured Harry as very short because of malnourishment from the Dursley’s, and as at least another thing he would take after his mother, so I always get this twinge of anger in the back of my mind when I see fanart of him tall!

you can picture whatever you want for Harry if it makes you happy! In the books, Harry is initially described as very small compared to other boys his age, and remains short for the beginning of the series. In the summer between fourth and fifth year though its explicitly mentioned on several occasions he has had a growth spurt, and I don’t think is ever again described as being short. By the final battle it’s implied that he’s somewhat tall, although not the tallest of the boys his age.

An AU where Sirius and Remus raised Harry, but homeschooled him because they were worried Hogwarts wouldn't be safe. Harry grows up loved but without many friends his age, until he meets the Weasleys and Hermione during the Quidditch World Cup.

The Doctor

Merlin head canon: while he was waiting for Arthur to come back, Merlin followed in Gaius's footsteps and practiced medicine. He traveled around for centuries, helping people in need with their magical and medical problems. As the myth of the wizard Merlin grew he stopped using that name with strangers, eventually only introducing himself as a doctor. Eventually, people who heard of him began to refer to him as "the doctor". One of these people went on to work for the BBC, and in the 1960s was involved in creating a tv show about a time traveling alien who went around the universe helping people. In honor of the man who had traveled for centuries doing good for others, the character was named "the Doctor".
