The Difference Between Percy Jackson and Harry Potter

Harry Potter and Percy Jackson are both big selling series and both with a dedicated fandom. But there so a key difference between the two boy's stories.

(Besides the fact that one fandom praises their author like a god and the other just wants her to stop)

The fact is that Percy Jackson did grow up in a bad home with a good mom, but they were only there because Sally Jackson needed to marry that slum to protect him from being a demigod. So if Percy was never a demigod, he'd be fine.

Sally would have married or never married someone else and most likely become successful, Percy would never be expelled from 6 schools, and they'd be normal. Sure, he would never meet Annabeth or Grover and meet all those friends but he would still live a normal life and they would just have to find another Hero.

Now this is not the case for Harry Potter. Given that Demigods would still exist if Percy was or wasn't one, Wizards would exist and Harry would just be a normal muggle. His parents would still be wizards, they would still be killed by voldemort, Lily would still shield Harry with love, and he would still go live with the Durslys.

Of course they would assume he's magic and pick him away. Theyd still isolate him, bully him, abuse him, and have his self confidence wither away. But he wouldn't have a magical world to go to. Maybe the Durslys would see he didn't get a letter and assume that they're doing the right thing. Theyd keep him isolated.

The magic world is all that Harry has. It's all he can hang onto. So being expelled from Hogwarts is like a death sentence to Harry.

Now that, is what I believe sets these characters apart.

They probably still, even with their memories wiped, thought that being homosexual would always be a sin and you'd be killed for it.

What if, and hear me out here, the lightning theif went down the exact same way.... Except Percy was a year older. He's still in the same grade since he got held back a year (which is it really that hard to believe? He's Percy Jackson.) and somehow just assumed Grover knew. And he never says anything. He's a year older than Annabeth and since he's such a nice kid he doesn't tease her. So she thinks their the same age because let's be real, he probably doesn't look more different then he would have.

Then when he finally heard the prophecy, everyone's counting his age as if he's a year younger and that's when it hits him. They don't know.

But not he's too deep in the lie to back out. He's too awkward to tell them. He doesn't want to see their horrified faces so he stays quiet. Everyone thinks they have another year before the prophecy but Percy knows. And only he does. Maybe Chrion knows too but he doesn't say anything. Then, the war starts early. Annabeth thinks the war will just last a full year. But Percy knows otherwise. When he finally ends the war, everyone's relieved and thankful.

Until Annabeth mentions Percy is "Only 15.". And Percy just kinda grabs her arms and whispers something in her ear. Dead silence follows.

Before Annabeth yells the biggest long string of curse words ever heard by demigods.

I think one of my favourite parts of Magnus Chase is how quick and witty he is. I've read countless books and watched countless movies where the main character is caught in a jam and I just yell at them the first excuse or lie I would use, but not with Magnus Chase. He just always knows how to run his mouth and do what I would do. Props to Magnus for his lieing skills.

I would be so useless if I got some kind of prophecy or message in my dreams because I could have the most vivid conversation with someone who died who's telling me about my destiny or watch a scene of my loved ones trapped in somewhere and only I can see where the exit is and when I woke up I would just be like "lol my brain makes the craziest dreams sometimes."

Okay, real talk. How does hair growth work for Einherjar? Like it's said that Alex Fierro's hair seems longer when she's a her, but when Mallory's hair gets cut she seems pretty worried.

Does hair grow? Do they have a barber (barber to the death?)? Does it stay the same? Does it go back to the same when you die? So at you stuck with the same haircut as when you die? Or does it just never grow back? Wouldn't there be like a lot of Einherjar with bald heads from their friends?

After Harry Potter came out, many videos surfaced online of people running into brick walls at train stations as a joke. While at one of these such train stations a friend dares you to run into a wall. They pull out their phone and start recording as you reluctantly run towards the wall. Expecting to hit it, you brace for impact but none comes— when you open your eyes again, the platform is empty and the train you see is most definitely not the Hogwarts Express.

Where. Is. My. Closure.

You know what, I should have expected this. Why did i think that i would end up with something beautiful. Why am i suprised.

There are problems with the ship consiting of Hazel and Leo. Big ones. And those problems could be about anything, their personalities, their hostories, whatever you think makes them compatavle or not. But all of them exist because of the one thing that their friendship/relationship is missing. Closure.

Leo and Hazel had such a spark when they shared backstories in Mark Of Athena. When they saw Sammy, someone that they both had a connection to (Relative and lover),there was SOMETHING there. Then we saw so much confusion and tension between the two, it was so interesting to read about. I loved seeing Frank be jealous about it all and Leo confused on his feelings. It made me so anxious and excited to read and find out what would happen with them. Who would end up with who? Would Leo and Hazel stay friends? Would she leave Frank? Would they all end up together?

But then.... Leo fell on Ogygia and met Calypso and just.... everything stopped. It was never talked about again. Neither of them mentioned it. It wasn't like they were in denial or any lodgical reason... they just seemed to forget. Nothing was there to clear up the situation. And everyone went along with it. How hard would it have been for leo to think to himself "Sammy may have loved her, but not me. I'm not like him. Atleast not in that way." Or Hazel to say something similar like "Maybe in another life i could have loved Leo, but Frank was first. He will be forever.". Why? Why couldn't that happen?

And the fandom doesn't talk about it either. That's what hurts. L A Z E L NEVER GOT CLOSURE AND I WILL NEVER FORGIVE RICK RIORDAN FOR IT

Now that I think about it

So Nico had most his memories erased from his time in Italy, and perhaps he would forget about homosexuality being illegal back then.

But then he has in the lotus casino with other people from a long time ago and from the same time.

So can you imagine, 10 year old Nico in the lotus who barely knows anything, asking some of his friends from the casino about it. Like, asking "Do you guys ever like.... Think about being in love but with.... Boys and not girls?" with not a single doubt that it was relatable. Then one of his friends drops the game and looks at him eyes wide.

"Nico. Thats illegal. Boys can be with Boys. If they do, they get killed by powerful men. God doesn't like people like that and it's a sin." He would probably reply. And everyone else would agree because it's not like anyone would know that in the future it's okay.

And then you can imagine his horror of his realization of his crush on Percy. It's not so easy to come into this strange world and just forget the little things you know because do you honestly think Bianca and Nico didn't feel like something was wrong? They probably didn't know anything like their birthday until they got out and Hades or Alecto told them. So now, having this little bit of information that everyone knows and being told that that doesn't matter anymore just be so dam hard for him

Imagine

When Nico runs away from camp, instead of trying to represent himself as death and despair like how he thought a child of Hades should, when he runs away he decides that he can't take anymore darkness and that he instead hates the colour black.

What if he decided he wanted to be surrounded by another colour. Like, say, yellow? So instead of edgy skulls and black, he has soft pale yellow and white. He isn't cheerful. It doesn't make him any less over Bianca's death. It doesn't really change anything

But it releases a bit of pressure for Nico.

Persephone enjoys seeing Nico in the colour. It's more brightness to the underworld.

People dont automatically assume Nico is creepy and are afraid,

Instead they see him as just a cute kid. Some could mistake him for a sun of Apollo.

Nico doesn't see Will as "blindingly sunny" as much as he would have. He's used to the colour.

Nico chooses yellow because it was Bianca's favourite colour

I always see people talking about Trans Nico Headcanons and honestly Nico could actually be trans.

Like, back in Venice, Italy before he got his memories wiped, Nico could have been born a girl and could have wanted to be a boy from that young age. With Hades being a God, he could most likely change Nico into a bit sometime before Maria died.

Then Hades can just never mention Nico was born a girl and everything is fine. He never has to know about that.

Wouldn't that be cool
