"And if I don’t?"

"That’ll bring on consequences that you and I both know will spiral down into something destructive." Said the dark-haired man as he paced around the room, his arms crossed around his chest.

"There is no way you can deny this!" He insisted, standing in front of her, a pleading look in his eyes. "I swear I’ll help you. But you can’t ignore this. It’ll come bite you in the ass in a future. I don’t wanna risk that." He insisted. He wanted to change her mind about it. Of course, he would do anything and everything in his hands to keep her safe while doing so. But he needed her to cooperate too.

"Of course, it’s your choice. I can’t push you to do it if you don’t want to. If the consequences are bad, we’ll just face them I’ll always be by your side.’ Shrugging his shoulders, he put an arm around her, squeezing her a bit. "The world’s just as big as you let it be. There’s nothing that can’t be done without a little effort."

"can i trust you?"

"T-t-trust me?" Minho stuttered. Those words were ones that made him flinch.Why? So many people he once knew and are now non-existent asked him that. It’s something that stuck around with him until now. Licking his lips, he took a deep breath. He didn’t know how to answer this. He could say yes, because he was capable of doing it. But he could also say no, because he would also put her in danger.

Sitting on the edge of the building’s rooftop with his feet dangling over, he looked over the city. It had been a while since he was here, with her. Or anyone for that matter. After a long moment of silence, he finally gathered his thoughts and answered her.

"You can trust me with anything." He finally responded wholeheartedly.

"Want to talk about it?"

With wide eyes, Minho stared at the other male.

There were so many things he wanted to talk about. But in this sober state, not a word would come out. He would either have to be drunk off his feet to start up a deep coversation, or as high as a kite. Licking his lips, he let out a sigh.

"I wish I could. It’s too much and too complicated, I wouldn’t want to burden you with it." He said with a small smile, patting the other on the back. "Maybe next time." Grabbing a water bottle from his backpack that was beside him, he opened it and offered some to the other. "Have some, I have more of those at home." He honestly hated this side of him, and how difficult it was for him to express anything if he wasn’t under the influence. He’d yet to change. With time, it could be a possibility.

"Just go. Leave."

"You lied to me."

"I thought it would be easier to leave."

Naeun was momentarily distracted by her attempts to get the old man out of his jacket. When she had finally wrangled the garment off of her patient, she glanced back to the young boy and blew her bangs out of her eyes. “I need something sturdy to fix to this gentlemen’s arm— like a board, or a rod. Can you look around here and find me something like that?” 

She smiled fondly when the teenager nodded quickly. Judging by his grimace, the action had been fast enough for him to aggravate his headache. With a small laugh, Naeun waved him off. “You’re my hero, Changsub!” 

The boy flushed and quickly scuttled off to do as asked. Naeun pretended not to notice him slip on an open book during his hasty retreat. Instead, she turned her attention back to the elderly man sitting in front of her and spotted his eyes sparkling with amusement. Clearly, she hadn’t been the only one to notice Changsub’s little slip. 

Naeun held a finger up to her lips, smiling conspiratorially, before she resumed her task of twisting the man’s jacket into an impromptu sling.

As rushed as Minho was, it took him half an hour to find Naeun's clinic. It didn't take him much time as it used to before. By the look of it, other people had also gotten there before him. It was typical though. There weren't many nurses nor medics around that operated like she did. In fact, they either worked for the Fireflies, or the military. There was no in between. That was why he considered Naeun an angel sent from the heavens. Walking into the make-shift clinic with s knowing look, he nodded st Naeun as he saw her treating another patient. It had been a while since they had talked to each other, but they had remain good friends all while trying to survive in this hostile environment that was either kill or be killed.

It was amazing to see how she could remain calm in a time of crisis. He knew she was strong-minded, it was one of the things he admired about her, apart from her being able to smuggle as skillfully as her. Not everyone was born with the advantage she had, and that made her powerful but also dangerous. Even though it must have been a few minutes when her helper came back with something that she had apparently requested, he shot her a desperate glare. He really needed for her to speed up what she was doing, but life doesn't work like that. Everything had a time and place for it to happen, but there was also something that always threw someone off of their path.

Biting his nails out of anxiety, Minho needed to clear his mind. He needed  to calm down and not worry about how his student's health could be deteriorating. He focused on happy thoughts, the things he enjoyed when he was younger. He knew that she worked fast and efficiently.He himself had gotten hurt quite a few times and she had been the one who patch him up. She was the only one who he trusted wholeheartedly out of the few people he knew. As soon as she was done with the old man, he approached her with a worried look in his facial features.

"We need you at the Unsung." He started to say, a bit of desperation seeping through his voice. "Our teaching hideout got ambushed and one of the younger boys got hurt while trying to escape. We took him to my place but he looks pretty rough." He kept on going, finally catching his breath. "Do you think you can check on him? We did what we could but I don't think it's enough. I promise to take you there and bring you back safely. Cross my heart and hope to die." He finally concluded and waited for her response. Of course, he was ready for any answer she gave him. But he was sure that she wouldn't say no to him, more or less because she was like that. She always  gave more than she received.

Being a teacher wasn’t easy. Not everyone. wanted to learn and it was a bit risky. At the locations that he gave class in, they’d always have to do perimiter search to check that the place is safe, that there is no threat to the students nor anyone present there. This is what sucked about not being able to have a permanent location to live in. But he preferred this than being forced against concrete walls to do as a higher class said. Here everyone was equal, everyone contributed and no one was being left unused. It took a lot of group effort to get to were they where, but it was worth it.

Class has gone by just fine. He was just about three quarters of being finished when he heard the ruckus. Their make-shit base had been found and he could hear everyone screaming. Without even thinking it twice, he yelled the password they always used for emergencies and saw as everyone started to escape. One by one, he counted his students as they crossed the passage where they came from. He could hear people yelling and scremaing. As he made sure that the others had made it safely, he webt back to check if he had forgotten anyone. Sadly, one of his students was being attacked by an armed bandit.

Tackling the other guy to the ground, he struggled with him and tried every way possible to get a good hold of his neck. Finally achieving this, he put all the force he had in it until the other person passed out of lack of oxigen. Grabbing the injured student and carrying her to the exit, he struggled a bit. She was hurt badly, but he couldn’t move too fast because it would hurt her too. Taking precautions, one of his students stayed back to help him with the victim. This was bad, and he knew who he had to locate before it turned to worse. Leaving everyone at the hide-out, he set out to find his friend who was just as sneaky as him, but with knowledge in areas he really didn’t understand. “I’ve got to find Naeun.” He whispered to himself as he set off to track the girl down. This was going to be a bit harder than he though, but the clock was ticking and there wasn’t anyone else who could do this.
