So I watched The Girl With Pearl Earring on Prime and indeed the whole film was like a painting, like @pixelpchan said, when you look at it again as a painter. Every scene seems paintable, it’s so inspiring. The beautiful cold blue light in the film made me think, how come I don’t see that kind of light in my everyday life? Is it because I live in California? Was the film color graded to emphasize that blue and us painters would just have to paint our diffuse light with blue-r imagination? The second ones’ color ref is Dices’ famous Toy Story 3 color script. So my current process is have a reference photo, and find a color goal that I want the outcome to be, or least close to. The birdie one I found this painting from either Dice or Robert I forgot whose this is, and the tree one is from Walter Everett that everyone knows. Taking tips from @pixelpchan ‘s Seeing Color class about using the photo only for references, and paint what I ‘want’ to paint. A lot of editing the composition and color is hard, but staying true to the vision I had in my head is harder.
