this is an excellent observation but I’d like to add: bees don’t fall into the same gender binary as we have in western culture. There isn’t just male/female.

as you’ve shown here, there’s workers, drones, and a queen. the queen is obviously the female, the drones are males, but … worker bees are a little different. since science is a broad, highly flawed, and extremely cisnormative field, researchers looked at worker bees and basically went “well, there’s boys and there’s girls, and these bees can’t impregnate the queen, so They Must Be Girls!”

In reality, they are technically neither. Since they’re bees, they don’t care what we think and it doesn’t bother them, but in human terms, worker bees are technically nonbinary.

so to summarize with what everyone else has added, Barry B Benson, every bee in the Bee Movie, Buzz the Cheerios bee, and just about every bee in pop culture that is a worker bee is nonbinary.

You can always tell when it’s a man writing a description because they focus oddly on the breasts. There will always be something about breasts and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read historical or fantasy fiction and they talk about “her breasts hanging freely under her tunic” or what the fuck ever and it’s like…women don’t do that? We don’t describe ourselves by saying “I have blonde hair and blue eyes and my breasts hang freely under my tunic”. I kind of feel like we should counter by awkwardly mentioning all male character’s balls in their description. It’s kind of in the same vein.

I edited a book last year with one of these horrible descriptions and I bargained the writer down from three pages of standing in front of a mirror contemplating her own breasts to “my ass looks slammin’ in these jeans” and it was a job and a half.

The justification for building a monument to black Confederate soldiers is crumbling as historians point out there’s no evidence such combatants ever existed.

State Rep. Bill Chumley (R-Woodruff) and state Rep. Mike Burns (R-Taylors) pre-filed a bill last month that would establish a commission to design an African-American Confederate veterans monument, reported The State.

The bill would also require public schools to teach the contributions of black people toward the Confederate cause, and Chumley said his proposal had already accomplished his goal even as historians undermine its intent.

“We are all learning a lot,” Chumley said. “The purpose of the bill is education.”

The State reviewed pension records from 1923 that show three blacks claimed armed service in South Carolina units under the Confederacy, with two of them confirmed as cooks or servants and none for armed service.
