”getting thicker skin” is great in theory but I think for some people “get better at handling your thin skin” is gonna be way more helpful advice. I have strong emotional reactions to criticism and they might never go away, but i can continue to try and handle each situation maturely and that’s the important part. Sometimes irrational feelings are chronic and living with them is better than trying to beat yourself up into not having them.

ChatGPT has told teenagers to kill themselves. A different LLM encouraged them to kill their parents. Chatbots encouraged eating disorders. There have even been adults who killed themselves because of chatbots.
Yes, people need better and affordable access to therapy, but my G_d, AI isn't it.

Which is fucking mind-boggling because they're computers. What do computers do best? Compute. What is needed to do any computation? Math.
Plug a math question into ChatGPT. Not something basic, like what is 2 x 2. Pick a couple of random numbers and multiply them, like uhhh 68 x 3,589. ChatGPT will give you an answer.
Now get out the calculator app on your computer or your phone, or just grab a dedicated calculator, and put in the same equation. The calculator will give you an answer, but it will not match what ChatGPT gave you.
I could go into why ChatGPT is wrong, but I don't have the energy for that, but I'll give you the basis.

Look, I know people want to react to the 'leopards eating faces party' with a big fat 'told you so,' but these are ex-cultists who are reaching out to people who may need an exit with a soft landing.
People who are deeply in a cult are afraid to leave it and MAGA is no exception! There's a fear that once you leave, you won't be accepted by anyone, so they stay even if they no longer believe in their rhetoric.
A very intelligent person can fall for a cult if they feel that it can offer them something they're missing. The outside world is perilous and you can be safe here. Your friends will reject you now that you've joined us, but we will accept you. Decisions are hard, we can make them for you. The secular world has broken you, we can give you new life through christ.
If you read some of the testimonies (and so many of them are young people) you'll see how much of it is 'I didn't see it, it took someone I love to show it to me, I can't unsee it now.' We've all done things we regret. Some regrets are bigger than others. I would rather forgive them and allow them to do good work than berate them for a decision they made when compromised by anxiety.
If you want to punish them, that's up to you.
