I like finding out what people my age and older had as their first cell phone. Anybody younger and their answer is a generic Android or iPhone. Phones from the 2000s were some wacky device like the sidekick or samsung x83 or lg env2

My first phone was a nokia 1112 in 2008

#i think mine was the lg vx8300 based on images from a quick search #and I loved that thing. I could throw it on the ground and it would still hold up.#(this was its primary appeal. i regularly got in trouble w my parents for not charging or using my phone and letting it die…#therefore defeating its purpose as a thing I could use to contact them in an emergency / a thing they could use to contact me if needed)#i had that one for a while and then i got the fuckin uhhhh #lg chocolate touch phone (purple)#the main thing I remember about that one is i had to do a little mini game to recalibrate the touch screen whenever i cut my nails #bc it was a less effective technology than touch screens now #but it was a Big Deal for it to have a touch screen at all instead of buttons #anyway i continued to not charge that one properly for a while until i got into a long distance situation w someone i met on tumblr #and we could only talk regularly by sms texting Twitter DMs to each other to circumvent international texting rates #(i assume she is no longer using tumblr but if she is. hi! sorry about being the way that i was!)#high school for me was carrying around my chocolate touch cell phone and my ipod. we used to need Two Devices.#i got my first iPhone uhhhhh. my freshman year of college I think? bc my parents were like.#well maybe if we get you THIS you’ll actually keep it charged and ANSWER US WHEN WE NEED TO REACH YOU. which to be fair was true.

I know this is the jaded post-irony website and we all wanna be funny, but I am genuinely asking. Please, tell me about a good memory you have with some loved ones and a stack of standard playing cards.

#my family loves to play trash can and rummy. growing up we played bullshit and spoons all the time but we don’t do those as much anymore.#every now and then wed get the neighborhood kids to play a giant card game on our driveway with like a dozen or more ppl #which would often require mixing together two or three decks of cards to make the game possible #but yeah to this day when im home for a vacation or holiday my sister will usually ask if anyone wants to play rummy #it’s a very common activity in my house and one i have a lot of fondness for #in college my roommates and i had a designated table in the basement laundry room where we’d play a few rounds of trash can or golf #while we waited for our laundry to be done and such #idk man i just think card games are a great way to spend time with loved ones
