While I didn’t intend on putting together a cosplay for Taako, I might consider it since I was mistaken for him a few times when I cosplayed Lup back in May, and I also have this fancy shirt that is PERFECT for him.
Just updated the banner with edited shots of my most recent cosplays!
And here are my cosplays from Anime Oasis EX (Memorial Day weekend, 2018)
-
Special thanks to Krystal Miller and Tim Boothby from Red Zone Fandom for the amazing photographs as per usual, and to my friends Bri and Lacy for being Light and Misa with me on Saturday!
Here are my cosplays from Anime Oasis EX! I also got the professional photos from Red Zone as I do every year, so I will share those as soon as I have access to them! 😊
Here is my Anime Oasis 2018 lineup!
Friday: Sloane/The Raven from The Adventure Zone Saturday: Rem from Death Note Monday: Lup from The Adventure Zone
Also! I’ve moved my Lup cosplay to Sunday because I’m leaving for the Oregon coast on Monday for a family vacation!
Today is the first day of Anime Oasis EX!
As promised, I’ll be Sloane/The Raven today so if you see me, say hi! :D
Masquerade mask for glasses wearers
Cheap but effective if you don’t own contacts. I made small hooks that should fall on your glasses if you measure it right. Since it lands on your glasses it shouldn’t scratch you. This only works with really light masks though
Reblog to save an aesthetic
my brain went WOAH that is the most useful thing I have ever seen before realizing I have not once in my life attended a masquerade
With AO fast approaching and finals pretty much out of the way, I started cracking down on the crafty side of my cosplays last night by making the base for Sloane’s raven mask I’m using a paper-mache method but making the base with clay to mold the paper-mache over (based on a YouTube tutorial I’ll share later)
While I’m not cosplaying as Lydia at AO this year, I still would love to soon, so I did some makeup tests last week!
to the new hiveswap fans who have not read homestuck. seal your fucking grey paint for the love of fucking god
hot tips for hs cosplay:
arm socks are Always worth it. if you cant make them yourself, buy them online. there is no amount of powder or final seal (in my experience with ben nye and kryolan) that will keep paint on your hands and arms
know the different types of paint available to you. ben nye is relatively cheap and easy to use, and is waterproof if you seal it right, but is Hell to remove. also imo it feels disgusting on your skin. kryolan is water-based and a lot lighter in feel than ben nye, which i like. ime it’s a Lot messier and more smudgy than ben nye though (esp if you sweat a lot) so i dont recommend it if you’re cosplaying, say, gamzee or kurloz and want crisp lines (these are just my experiences though; i don’t cosplay regularly so i recommend doing your own research)
test ahead of time and if possible make sure your arm socks match your paint. its not a huge deal if they dont but it does look better, i promise
i suggest practicing eating w/ lipstick on if you’re not used to it, just because it’s a pain to have to reapply if you want to eat at a con
HERE YOU GO KIDDOS THIS IS AN ASK I ANSWERED A WHILE AGO !!!!! EDUCATE URSELVES. ive been doing this for years and i had to learn shit the hard way!!! listen to this advice so you dont have to struggle like most homestuck cosplayers did back in the day!
the fact were back to yelling cosplay tips at people says so much. WHY ARNT WE A DEAD FANDOM YET END THIS
because!!! if u arent aware literally homestuck cosplayers not sealing their paint at conventions has actually caused vandalism problems it was a HUGE issue and lots of conventiones had to fuckin.. change convention rules to adapt to a bunch of grey 12 year olds running around and ruining the venue. hiveswap is going to invite new ppl into the fandom and this needs to be said
Annika Victoria - make thrift buy should pull her up - on YouTube did a tutorial on how to do the eye shirt. She’s not great at the drawing aspect, but the bones of the how to are there.
Sigh. Now I don’t have an excuse. I have to make one for myself.
Cosplay (and general sewing) life hack- easy pleats with a fork! For all those school girl uniform cosplays and more :)
me realizing my experiences with sewing have been a lie this whole goddamn time:
My granny taught me these. We called them.blind stitches.
Wow I didn’t kno
I have to try these
I remember learning these in middle school.
I HAVE BEEN DOING IT WRONG FOR THE PAST TEN THOusAND YeARS
This type of stitch is actually called a Ladder Stitch and it is The Best Stitch You Will Ever Learn, especially with plush sewing
Ladder stitches make fixing annoying puff out mistakes easy, helping you achieve the right shape you were trying to get but didn’t get with the pattern you made.
They make attaching things to other things super useful. My rule of thumb has been to go three-four rounds with a quadruple thick thread; first time around in one direction, knot off, then the opposite direction the next one/two rounds, knot off then the original direction again. The ladder stitch isn’t a bulky stitch and it hides itself really well. I use this for attaching legs, arms, wings, and other decorum. It’s also really useful for fabric eyes.
A Ladder Stitch is what you want to use when you have a hole in your pillow, blanket, or clothes. It requires a minimum hem length, but does not work well with silky or fraying fabrics. It’s best with knits and other non-fray types. It’s difficult to do with very stiff or very thick fabrics, like faux leather or plush fleece.
It is my favorite stitch for very good reasons

Hey!
Remember the Yami Bakura cosplay I did for the final Tomodachi Fest? I recently applied a glitch effect to it!
Original photography by Tim Boothby via Red Zone Fandom. Effects applied using GIMP 2.8.
Tomodachi Fest 10 (November 24-25) costumes!
I am happy to have been able to participate in the final Tomodachi Fest this year, where I went as Cecil Palmer on Friday and Yami Bakrua on Saturday. I was able to get my Millennium Ring fixed before my photo-shoot! :’D
Once more, credit goes to Tim Boothby from Redzone Fandom for the photos!
