lukastho:
it didn’t matter how many times it happened, lukas was always taken a little by surprise to be referred or even implied to be family, the concept always causing awe in the shadowhunter. the smile that tugged at the corners of his mouth was a genuine one, one that wasn’t seen all that often and was mostly reserved for the handful of people he cared most. making a face, he gave a nod of his head. “yeah, sadly enough i can’t skip duty anymore. trying to be good for once.” he finished, a snort following afterward. tilting his head to the side, lukas gave the older shadowhunter a curious look at the mentition of wanting to ask him something before concern settled onto his features. “i don’t have to go till later so it’s safe to say we have some time. but what is it? did i do something?”
“ being dutiful sometimes is certainly a good trait. ” he said with a nod of his head, watching the blond’s face as he spoke, which made the demon-blooded furrow his eyebrows slightly, shaking his head. “ no - of course not. ” leo assured, both liking that he was considerate enough to ask such thing and disliking the fact that the first thing he thought was that he must have done something. with a deep breath, leo reached to his desk to fetch a folder, opening the first page before placing it before lukas. “ i... well, ” leo smiled nervously, giving a slight shake of his head. “ i planned this conversation a lot in my head but - ” it was a rare occurance to see the wallace brother nervous, but with lukas, he was scared. he was afraid that he might not want him as his father and in all honesty ? leo couldn’t blame him in that case. “ i want to be your father. ” he said suddenly, meeting his gaze once again. “ i do care about you and love you like a father would already. i never received that kind of love before, but i imagine it to feel just like this if i ever had. ” smile turning slightly bitter-sweet now, he looked at the legal papers ready in fort of lukas. “ i don’t think i will ever have children of my own, either. ” he added, thinking of lilian for a moment before looking at the younger shadowhunter again. “ i promise to treat you as if you were my blood. you already are like that to me. and lukas - don’t you even dare think for a second that anything will change for me in the case you don’t want to be my son. it’s understandable. ” he said with all honesty, a genuine smile on his face. “ you’ll remain the same youngling for me, as i will as the old man for you. but if you do sign that, ” he said, nodding towards the papers. “ it will be my greatest honour to get to call you my son. ”
