Jane Austen - "Sense and Sensibility"
from lavender woman: chicago’s lesbian/feminist newspaper vol. 2 no. 1, january 1973
But a gay man seeks his history in mythic fragments, random as blocks of stone in the ruins covered in Greek characters. We have the poems of Sappho because the one rolled linen copy stoppered a wine jug in a cave, and the blanks are the words the acid of the wine has eaten away. Fragments are all you get. You jigsaw the rest with your heart.

Florence Welch for Sorbet Magazine by Rhys Frampton
"You won't be happy forever but you won't be sad forever"
- Florence Welch on reaching your lowest point
the more our family grows, the more in love we become. we become the mothers we never had; kind, patient, invested, warm, present, and always nurturing. we watch and help our daughters grow into strong women, intelligent women, and above all, compassionate women. our family has no hurt to heal from, no secrets to be kept, and no hatred in our hearts. i couldn’t love them any more if i tried. i couldn’t love you any more if i tried. our lives are so warm, so full.

When Florence Welch said “I drink too much coffee and think of you often”
when spring comes, we feel it in our bones and in the pores of our skin. the sun stays out longer, and we lounge outside on our porch to feel it’s warmth on our skin. we drive around with the windows down, listening to music that sounds as bright as we feel. we cook outside, even when it’s still a little too cold and early in the season, and eat foods tasting of smoke and fire and fresh air.
our garden grows bigger every day, and we spend hours in the afternoon working on it. we grow it big enough to feed ourselves, filling our bellies with the warmth and tenderness and care we put into the seeds and the soil. as the sun sets, we eat roasted root vegetables on the porch, admiring our hard work.
