Top 10 of my favorite shows

8. Downton Abbey

Downtown Abbey is the show of this chart that I have seen more recently. I have to admit that at first I was a bit skeptical. But I couldn’t be more wrong!

From the beginning it got me, I just wanted to find out more and more and I couldn’t stop watching it.

For me a thing that is really important in a show is how you get to know the characters. In this case there is a variety of people to know, everyone with their values and their flaws. You love someone and you hate someone else but while you go on your opinions keep change because of everyone’s evolution.

So instead of the plot I’m going to focus on some characters.

My favorite is for sure Tom Branson.

I’ve liked him since the beginning and I have appreciated every role he had throughout the show, from the reckless socialist to the loving husband and father, from the chauffeur to the administrator of Downtown. He’s caring about the people he loves, determined and not afraid to do what he feels right. I loved his development and the one of the people surrounding him, that all gave him the acceptance he deserved from the start.

And if I talk about Tom, how can I not mention Sybil? She was my favorite of the three sisters. I admired her independence and her strength. Not so many people would have thrown away all they had to follow their heart like she did. It’s a bummer that we didn’t get to see more about her.

Other than Tom there was another character that I loved: Matthew Crawley.

Matthew was great, an amazing person. Strong, sweet and loving. I totally understand how Mary’s heart which seemed ice cold just melt in front of Matthew. I mean, who wouldn’t fall in love? A special mention goes to his friendship with Tom. When I saw them I was always on cloud nine. Ah, my babies!

In the end, if you talk about Downtown Abbey’s characters how can you not mention Lady Violet? She’s amazing, I’m so grateful for her existence. All the witty and sarcastic comments are pure gold. Maggie Smith deserves all the awards in the world for Lady Violet.

So this is just a little bit of what I think about Downton Abbey, if I wrote everything I thought I guess I would never end. What about you? Have you ever seen it? If so, who is your favorite?

Top 10 of my favorite tv shows

9. Criminal Minds

So at the ninth place we find a show that has been with me all my life. Seeing that I’m 20 and in these days the 14th season is coming out, we can say that I really grew up with this show.

Weird, you may say. How can a five years old girl find herself watching Criminal Minds? The answer is my mum. She has always been passionate about crime shows and books and so she passed this love to me.

Of course when I was five I couldn’t understand the cases or the storyline, but I vividly remember how I liked all the characters.

After 14 years some old characters have left, some new one have come, some went away and came back. However I’m still here, loving this team like a fictional family.

Crime shows are often very similar, but in Criminal Minds I found something different, for me it has that je ne sais quoi that makes it special.

In every episode there is a case that is always solved but, hey, those cases are amazing. I mean in how many shows you see the unsub transforming his victim into a puppet? Or making candles from women’s fat? After this things they had me totally sold.

Beautiful is also how the solve it. For once it isn’t focused on the science but psychology, and I love this. I mean, I’m a chemist so I love science, but it’s so cool to try and enter the mind of a serial killer.

And then next to the various cases, there is the storyline of the characters. Has I have already said I have a special connection with them that has been formed throughout the years. However I bet that if you binge watch it you inevitably end up feeling a same connection. There are some episodes that are so hard to watch but make you feel so much empathy. They are special to me.

Favorite character: Spencer Reid

I dare you: watch Criminal Minds and try not to fall in love with this little cute genius cupcake.

Spencer Reid is my first fictional crush and he will always be in my heart. He’s special, a pure soul. Life has been so hard on him but he keeps fighting no matter what. At first sight he seems so delicate, but he’s actually the strongest in there. I’m so proud of his growing up.

I’m proud of you, nerdy little boy who stole my heart and is never going to give it back to me.

Top 10 of my favorite tv shows

10. Glee

Glee has an important spot in my heart.

It was the first show I have ever seriously binge watched. It was the first time I had to deal with streaming sites and I couldn’t have started in a better way. This is one of the reasons why Glee deserved a spot in this top ten.

One of the things that I love the most about Glee is the music. As a true musical lover how could I not fall in love with a show where the characters mostly sing? I have to say that Glee helped me to improve my musical tastes. Indeed it offers a huge variety of songs, from the classics to the newest songs. I’m not ashamed to say that for some songs I actually prefer the glee cover.

What about the storyline? You may ask. Yeah I know, it’s mostly the same plot of any American high school tv show with the pregnant teen, the gay guy who is ashamed of himself, the quarterback who falls in love with the unpopular girl... Somehow Glee reached my heart in a different and stronger way. I just felt so close to the characters. Everyone taught me something: someone a lot, someone just a little bit. It almost felt like I was a part of the show, at the McKinley, in the glee club with the guys.

Favorite character: Kurt Hummel

I’ve always had a soft spot for the gay characters who can’t be themselves at 100%. Maybe because in the past I’ve felt confused about my sexual orientation. Anyway Kurt stole my heart from the beginning and I have never stopped loving him.

Sex Education (Netflix, 2019)

Sex Education è una serie uscita da pochi giorni su Netflix. A mio parere perfetta per il binge watching, inizialmente può sembrare soltanto incentrata su ragazzini arrapati, ma in realtà affronta problemi attuali legati al mondo della sessualità.

Il protagonista è Otis, un ragazzo il cui problema è quello di “essere rimasto indietro”. Infatti se da un lato tutti i coetanei hanno avuto le loro esperienze sessuali, lui non riesce neanche a masturbarsi. Ma da dove deriva questo problema? Molto probabilmente dal fatto che la mamma è una psicologa sessuale e che quindi per lei l’argomento sesso è all’ordine del giorno, salta fuori qualsiasi volta che prova a parlare con il figlio.

Il migliore amico di Otis è Eric, che viene bullizzato in quanto gay. Nonostante ciò il ragazzo non si perita a ostentare il suo gusto per gli outfit colorati e scenografici, perché fortemente convinto che niente lo può spingere a reprimere la sua personalità. A far vacillare la sua convinzione sarà il trauma subito quando di notte viene aggredito perché vestito con abiti femminili. Con la sua grande forza interiore e la voglia di essere se stesso, però riuscirà a far fronte a questo ostacolo e a tornare fiero del suo orientamento sessuale.

Terza protagonista è Maeve, una ragazza che di esperienze sessuali ne ha avute, conosciuta in tutta la scuola come “cock biter”. Maeve all’inizio della serie si trova all’opposto della situazione di Otis. Ha avuto le sue esperienze, ma niente legato a una relazione seria. Verrà anche operata per un aborto. Piano piano invece cerca di avvicinarsi al mondo dei fidanzati e delle relazioni, mettendosi insieme a Jackson, il “ragazzo perfetto” della scuola, e infine innamorandosi di qualcuno che non la ricambia.

AI tre protagonisti si affiancano numerosi personaggi con vite sessuali particolari, delle quali siamo a conoscenza grazie al lavoretto segreto messo in atto da Otis e Maeve. Gestiscono infatti una specie di servizio psicologico sessuale, che a scuola ha un grande successo.

Quindi possiamo vedere come vengano trattati temi importanti come l’accettazione, l’abuso, l’aborto, la discriminazione affiancati da parti che fanno ridere per stemperare la situazione.

Ben fatto Netflix, mi è piaciuta molto!

I love Eskild. He associates with a teddy bear in my mind.

Well, you know, every child in childhood has a favorite soft toy. Someone may have a few, but it’s not so important. The presence of such toys is very important, because they positively influence on the development of the child. Just as Eskild influences on the development of Isak, for example.

Eskild, like a teddy bear, is the embodiment of a best friend, protector, the best remedy for stress.

 With a soft teddy bear everyone feels calmer and safe, because a teddy bear is a friend who always stands guard over sleep. So is Eskild. He was always there if Isak or Noora need help.

Sometimes parents are not able to give the child enough time and attention. Communication Eskild with Isak and Noora somewhat compensates for this. Eskild as a teddy bear helped them in situations where parents are not around, because every child (in this case Isak and Noora) always needs support and understanding.

And even speaking of other characters and other situations, it seems to me that when Eskild simply enters the room, his own aura simply captures everything. He like a teddy bear makes any atmosphere better.

He is wonderful.

Analisi del personaggio: El Profesor (La Casa de Papel)

Sicuramente il volto principale de La Casa de Papel è El Profesor, il professore.

Egli è la mente del piano e il reclutatore della squadra. Dotato di un’intelligenza analitica ed intuitiva, organizza la rapina alla Zecca di Stato, prevedendo ogni scenario e istruendo i rapinatori con un metodo scolastico rigoroso ed efficiente. Diventa cosí un mentore, è riconosciuto e rispettato da tutti. Conquista tutti quanti senza mai alzare la voce, mostrando una sensibilità ed una empatia antitetiche al mondo del crimine e con la sua eleganza ed educazione. Lo spettatore resta colpito dalla sua abilità nel risolvere problemi e dalla sua retorica talmente arguta da rendere iconici i dialoghi di cui è partecipe.

Ma ciò che rende il suo personaggio ancora più interessante è il suo sdoppiamento. Infatti, la sua relazione con l’ispettrice Raquel gli permette sì di conoscere ogni mossa della polizia, ma allo stesso tempo lo espone ad innumerevoli rischi che alimentano in modo considerevole la suspense e la possibilità di essere scoperto. I momenti di maggiore tensione sono l’episodio della macchina nello spazio dell’autodemolizione, la visita di Angel a casa sua, il caffè con la madre di Raquel. Ed è proprio in questi momenti che la doppia identità del Professore e Salva Martin rischiano di coincidere.

Il suo sguardo resta lo stesso sia quando organizza una rapina epica, sia quando suona il pianoforte per Raquel. Il suo ingresso nel mondo del crimine non ha annullato la sua empatia, ma anzi si può dire che l’ha rafforzata.

La prima regola del piano è non nuocere. Al pensiero della morte di Monica o al tentato omicidio della madre di Raquel, il Professore rivela in modo evidente la sua intelligenza emotiva, che lo rende affascinante, familiare e induce lo spettatore ad immedesimarsi in lui.

Ma a questo punto ci chiediamo: Perché il professore fa tutto ciò? Cosa l’ha spinto a continuare il maestoso progetto della rapina alla Zecca di Stato ideato da suo padre?

Tutto ciò si può spiegare con il suo sogno: la Resistenza.

Analisi del personaggio: Don Draper (Mad Men)

Rispondere alla domanda Chi è Don Draper? è molto complicato. Non lo sanno i suoi colleghi, non lo sanno i suoi figli e nemmeno sua moglie. Forse nemmeno lui saprebbe rispondere a questa domanda. Tutta la sua vita è circondata da un alone di mistero.

All’esterno appare come un uomo affascinante, bello, ricco, di successo e sicuro di sé, mentre all’interno è travagliato da una forte crisi d’identità. Tutto ciò che rappresenta è frutto di menzogne. Egli, infatti, riesce a mentire a tutti facilmente senza farsi scrupoli e cerca di farlo anche con se stesso, costruendosi la famiglia perfetta, con una moglie bellissima, due figli e una casa in campagna. In realtà a lui non interessa di tutto ciò, anzi la famiglia lo opprime. L’unica cosa a cui è interessato è il suo lavoro e il suo successo, non tanto per i soldi, ma per quello che rappresenta l’essere arrivato fin là. E’ infatti l’emblema del self-made man, di colui che è riuscito partendo dal niente a costruirsi una carriera lottando con tutto se stesso. Smettere di interessarsi a ciò, smettere di combattere forse determinerebbe la fine di quello che si può dire l’ultimo obiettivo raggiunto nella sua vita.

Ma purtroppo con l’avanzare del tempo quello che più temeva si verifica: egli perde la sua unicità, andando a finire a lavorare in un’agenzia dove è solo uno dei tanti creativi e nessuno pende più dalle sue labbra. Questo provoca in Don una vera e propria crisi di identità. Riuscirà a riprendersi? Ritroverà se stesso oppure si trasformerà in una persona del tutto nuova?
