Continuation of the Approval series: Here

Outside of herself, Sakura had noticed that there were three other ladies in the running to be the future crowned princess of the Uchiha Kingdom. Lady Satsuki, a distant cousin of the royal family. Lady Mitzuki, whose father had married into nobility but ran a large merchant business on his own. Finally, Lady Hana, daughter of one of the army generals. They were all well-versed in court decorum and tactics. They knew how to play the game—and how to win.

Sakura was going to keep out of their way at all costs. Compared to them, she was born a minor noble, and regardless of her current position as an apprentice to the Queen of Konoha, she was nothing. She knew this, and those girls knew it too. They would use everything in their power to remind her of that, and she would rather avoid it.

About a week after Lady Tsunade and Naruto had left, she received a letter from the crown prince, Itachi himself, requesting her presence for afternoon tea and snacks.

Sasuke had joined her for breakfast when the note arrived, and the glare on that boy’s face was almost comical.

"I'm not going to steal your brother’s innocence over tea, Sasuke," Sakura rolled her eyes as she put the paper back on the table and continued eating her eggs.

"It's so annoying. My big brother shouldn't have to make time for a bunch of girls when he's busy taking care of his duties," Sasuke grumbled, stabbing a grape with his fork.

Sakura felt a teasing quip at the tip of her tongue but wisely held back. She didn’t feel like arguing with Sasuke about his brother complex so early in the morning.

"Want to join us?" she asked instead. "You can just happen to come across us, and I'll invite you to join?"

"No. Mother has conveniently asked me to do some chores for her at that time, so you'll be on your own."

"Conveniently, huh."

Sakura took a sip of her tea and stared across the table at Itachi. He was dressed in the finery expected of a future king, but for some reason, Sakura felt that it didn’t really suit him.

They chatted about common things—the weather, the flowers, Sasuke. It felt extremely forced, and she wanted nothing more than to be away from here, surrounded by the smell of herbs and bitter medicines.

They had fallen into a comfortable silence as they sipped their tea, and Sakura wanted this to be over soon. But she wasn’t sure if ending things early would be rude.

"I was surprised you stayed behind."

Looking up from her tea, she found him staring at her with his dark eyes.

"Lady Tsunade requested that I remain behind to aid the Uchiha with antidote preparation."

He nodded. "Is it going well?"

"We’re missing a few herbs, but I’ve requested the seedlings, and they should be here any day now. Though I haven’t had the chance to look over the entirety of the Uchiha herb house yet."

"I remember hearing that it wasn’t until a decade ago, with Lady Tsunade’s acquisition of the throne, that Konoha began procuring all sorts of medical herbs and instruments."

"The population did rise, and to deal with the spread and treatment of disease, my master made sure we were ahead of the threat rather than reacting to it," Sakura responded proudly. She had only been twelve when Lady Tsunade recognized her talent and agreed to be her teacher. A lot had changed since then.

He offered her a small smile before getting to his feet and offering her his arm. "Join me. My mother has created a new path through the garden, and I have yet to see it."

"Of course." Sakura quickly got to her feet and took his arm, allowing him to lead her along the path.

The queen had done a great job picking out flowers that complemented the landscape. Though, some of the flowers along the path were poisonous—not deadly, but irritating.

"Unless you enjoy skin rashes, stay away from the leaves of the orange blossoms," she chuckled as they approached.

"Ah, yes." He nodded. "Some of us had to learn the hard way."

"Did you ever?"

He shook his head. "No, but Sasuke once picked these flowers for our mother and couldn’t close his hands for a week. Mother said one should learn by doing."

Sakura could just imagine baby Sasuke with boils on his palms and couldn’t help but let out a short laugh. "Of course he would."

Smiling at her, Itachi pulled her toward a small pond. "This over here is where Sasuke first realized he didn’t know how to swim and cried for a few minutes before realizing he could just stand up."

This time, Sakura couldn’t help herself. Within seconds, she was doubled over laughing, her hand clutching Itachi’s arm as a lifeline as it became hard to breathe.

When she got back to her room, Sasuke was lounging on her bed, reading one of her books.

She was briefly annoyed at his presence in her room, but she remembered Itachi’s stories and couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of him.

"Have you gone mad or something?" he snapped at her from across the room.

After calming down, she moved toward him and placed her hands on her hips. "You know, it’s not proper for you to be waiting for me in my room while your brother and I are courting."

He looked up from the book and rolled his eyes. "Please don’t say such disgusting words. No one is courting anyone."

"What will become of my reputation? Courting the crown prince while meeting with the second prince in her bedroom? Think of the scandal, Sasuke!" she teased as she laid down across from him, relishing the feeling of her muscles relaxing against the soft but firm mattress.

"Please, everyone knows I go—" He blinked, stopping himself, probably thinking better of what he was about to say. "How did it go?"

"We had tea, talked about the weather, and you—mostly you."

She watched as his eyes brightened, and he crawled across the bed toward her. "What did he say about me?"

Sakura wanted to tease him, but she knew how much Sasuke loved his brother. He wanted nothing more than Itachi’s approval, and she wasn’t cruel enough to make fun of him for it.

"Nothing bad, of course. I’m not sure which brother loves the other more at this point. You both like talking about each other."

She watched as his chest puffed out—it was adorable. "Well, of course. He is the greatest crown prince of our generation."

Rolling her eyes, Sakura turned over so her back was facing Sasuke. "I was serious about you entering my room. I don’t need the other girls seeing you coming and going and spreading rumors that I’m seducing both brothers."

He scoffed. "As if you could seduce me."

"Don’t let anyone see you leave or enter next time, okay?"

"Fine."

"Now get out. I want to nap."

The following week, Sakura received another letter asking her for tea. Like hell she was going to sit through another awkward, let’s-talk-about-the-weather tea session. She had things to do rather than waste time on weekly tea with someone she didn’t even want to marry.

She scribbled a reply on the letter and sent it back.

I apologize, but I am combining mixtures today. You are welcome to join me.

Maybe he would take the hint and leave her alone rather than join her for some obligatory date.

Sasuke even said she wasn’t Itachi’s type, and the fastest way to prove that was to be herself to the max.

Continuation of this Part 1 

So I got a lot of people asking me to write more of this and here you go. I will probably continue with this series. 

“Sakura you will not be returning with us to the Leaf.”

Sakura avoided choking on her breakfast and gave her teacher a confused look, “Wh-what?”

“The King and Queen wish for you to remain here and court the crowned prince.”

Naruto did not avoid choking on his breakfast, and began to cough loudly as Sakura stared in bewilderment. Did she hear that correctly, at this point she wasn’t sure.

“But-”

It seemed Tsunade didn’t have any patience today, a byproduct of all the drinking she did at the party last night. “Are you courting anyone?”

“No but-”

“Are you sweet on someone?”

“No.”

“Hey lady Tsu-” Naruto was silenced by a glare from the older woman.

“Then why are you against it?”

“He’s Sasuke’s brother, I don’t know anything about him.” She left out the part of him frightening her a little, not that he had done anything to her personally, but his reputation was murky if anything.

“You are not being forced to take your vows Sakura. You will remain here and learn more about him and then make your decision.”

“How long am I to remain here?”

“A year.”

“What am I supposed to do here for a year?”

“You will have work, the Uchiha Medicinal gardens are in need of some upkeep and their healers could probably learn a thing or two from you.” Tsunade replied, “You will of course be spending time with the prince when he asks, but you won’t be alone. There are a few other girls that were chosen to stay here so you are not expected to spend all your time with him. Plus Sasuke is here so you won’t be completely alone.” 

Sakura chewed her bottom lip as she thought this over, there were so many things that she couldn’t wrap her mind around. “Lets say that I stay and he chooses me to marry, do I have to marry him?” 

Tsunade’s brow furrowed, “I wouldn’t force you to marry anyone you didn’t want Sakura,” 

“Hell yeah!” Naruto agreed, but he was ignored by the older woman. 

“but if you are chosen to marry Itachi, I don’t see a reason to refuse. He is intelligent and strong not to mention handsome. You probably won’t find a better man than him anytime soon. But I digress. If you find that you don’t like him after the year is over then you are welcome to come home and I will deal with any fallout if you reject his hand.” 

“You see so sure that she’s gonna get proposed too grandma.” Naruto stated, sending the older woman a suspicious glare. 

“Who wouldn’t want to be with her? She’s smart and pretty, a little flat in the chest but her behind ma-” 

“Lady Tsunade!” Sakura snapped, her face a bright red. 

She turned to see Naruto staring at her, but not at her face. She threw a grape at his face. 

“Knock it off pervert.” She growled at him. 

A few minutes later a very shocked looking Sasuke walked through the doors. He was supposed to be having breakfast with his family, but judging by his expression he just found out about her extended stay. 

Before he even reached the table he was glaring at her as if she had enchanted his precious brother like some sort of witch. 

“Don’t you dare start Sasuke.” She said to him, rubbing her temples at the incoming headache. 

“Don’t you dare, don’t you dare me!” He hissed, taking a seat beside them. “How could you do this?” 

“This is a very unbecoming response from a prince Sasuke. You should be congratulating Sakura on this honor.” 

“Why are you so bothered by this Sasuke?” Naruto asked, “Do you have a crush on Sakura or something?” 

“Don’t be an idiot Naruto why would I like-” Sasuke was a smart boy so the moment he saw the raised pink brow he cut himself off. “What I meant to say, Sakura. Is that you’re like a sister to me and Itachi is my brother. If you marry him it’s like my sister is marrying her brother and that is disgusting.” 

“Even your compliments sound insulting.” Sakura sighed, “Look it’s only for a year, I don’t have any intentions of seducing your brother for his throne so we’re good. I’ll do my work here and help your healers and talk to him whenever he wants but after the year ends I’m going home.” 

“Famous last words Sakura.” Tsunade chuckled. “Good luck.”

The Complete Handbook Of Novel Writing Chapter 1

The title is such because I got a new book to help with my writing and they have activities to help you write better. I’m going to try and do all those activities using various Sakura ships so look forward to that. 

Sakura could hear the raised voices from inside the captains cabin even from her position by the forward deck. Naruto’s voice was the most prominent with Sasuke’s heated insults not far behind. It seems her captains couldn’t come to an agreement about what to do next but that wasn’t anything new, the two liked to argue just to pass time. 

She was feeling restless though, especially considering the ‘prize’ they had in their hull. What they had stolen from the barons storehouse was something that had changed her, and she was certain her two captains as well. Perhaps that’s why Naruto sounded so agitated at Sasuke’s suggestions to take their ‘prize’ to shore and sell it. 

“WE ARE NOT GOING TO SELL HIM!” Sakura jumped a bit at Naruto’s raised voice, she heard the crew stop around her, their eyes and ears fixed on the captains quarters. 

“It’s not a him Naruto, it’s a monster.” Sasuke growled, “and I never said we should sell it.” 

“We should release him.” 

“No, we need him as leverage against...” 

Sakura had heard this conversation so many times since they made the initial discovery a few days ago, it seems the two would come to some sort of decision tonight. She didn’t need to hear this argument again and instead she made her way down the stairs and to the room they had set up the glass cage in. 

Green eyes took in the half human half fish being of myth sleeping in the case before her. A black tail that turned a dark red at the fins filled up most of the case, but the human half was pale skinned and the dark hair floated angelically around him. His face was young, beautiful if Sakura was being honest, but that was what the myth say wasn’t it, that mermaids were beautiful so they could drag you into the ocean and kill you and you wouldn’t mind because you were too enchanted. 

He had been awake when she first came upon him.

Green eyes widened as strange red eyes focused on her, the man or rather mermaid in the glass case in the center of the room glared at her, his lips set in a grim line. 

“We don’t have time to be standing around Sakura!” She heard Sasuke snap at her from the hallway, but getting closer. “What are you-” 

She felt his warmth against her back as he also stopped cold and stared at the caged mermaid. His presence seemed to break her out of her stupor and she took a step towards the case, but Sasuke’s cool hand wrapped around her arm.

“Careful.” He warned before letting her go.

The closer Sakura got the more details she saw of this mermaid. There were gills along his sides, bits of black and red scales dotted his flesh above his waist, he was beautiful. How had the Baron gotten this creature captured... 

Red eyes focused on her the entire time and it made her nervous, but the mermaid didn’t say anything. He looked upset, probably from being in a cage and not the ocean but there was sadness and what seemed like defeat on his face. 

“WHAT THE FUCK!” Naruto had made himself known. 

Afterwards Sasuke had the crew take the case and bring it to the ship, the mermaid seemed to just close his eyes and she hadn’t seem him move since. The crew said they tried to give him a fish for food but he refused to eat and for some reason that bothered her. He may have been a creature of myth but she still had empathy that extended past just human kind. 

Sakura was a woman of medicine, of science and logic so she often just brushed off the talk of mermaids and other sea creatures, but if mermaids were real did that mean other sea creatures and mythical creatures were real as well? The sea was big and deep, who knew what horrors it contained and that terrified her. 

She was standing only a few feet away when red eyes fluttered open and once again pinned her with his defeated, angry glare. Within moments she started to feel her arm itch and she resisted the urge to scratch, knowing it was a nervous tick. 

“The crew is saying you’re not eating.” She was known to babble when nervous and just because he was half fish didn’t exclude him from making her talk. “Maybe fish isn’t part of your diet?” There was no answer but some of the anger on his face disappeared. “Or it could be but you’re not really in a good environment so maybe you’re not eating because of that. I know it’s a thing that happens with prisoners sometimes...” She frowned, maybe comparing him to a prisoner wasn’t the best way to word it. “Not that you’re a...well I don’t know actually.” 

She used to be the third rule of law with Sasuke and Naruto but she had given up her position to Shikamaru. They will be the ones deciding the fate of this mermaid and she hoped it was favorable. 

“If you want anything to eat let me know, I can get it for you.” He just stared at her with red eyes and after a few moments of staring at each other Sakura sighed and turned around, ready to head back to deck. 

There was a knocking on the glass behind her and she quickly looked over her shoulder to see him motioning to the lid on the cage. 

“I can’t-” Before she could finish he shook his head and motioned to the space around them and shrugged his shoulders. It took Sakura a second to figure out his meaning, but she was known to be very smart. He was saying that he had no where to run and something inside of her believed him. 

She was tempted and checked the hallway, but no one was there since most of the crew was asleep or listening in on the bickering captains upstairs. Having made up her mind she closed the door to the storage room and turned to the glass cage. 

“You have to promise not to escape.” She said and he slowly nodded. It didn’t take long for her to undo the locks on the top and push it back, leaving top open. The mermaid wasted no time throwing his arms over the edge, but he made no attempt to get out of the case. His head broke the surface of the water, his dark hair like a second skin against his face, until he used one hand to push the strands over his shoulders.

“I cannot eat submerged in water.” His voice was deep, melodic. “Nor can I speak human tongue underwater.” 

“R-Right.” She gulped, “A-are you hungry?”

“Starving.” 

“I don’t have any fish at the moment, but there is other kind of dried meat here.” 

“It will do.” He responded and watched her as she pushed back the tops to some of the food storage containers. With a handful of meat in her hands she moved towards him. She hesitantly held up the food and resisted shivering when his cool hand touched her own as he took the food from her. 

She watched him scarf down the meat, sharp teeth showing themselves as he ate, and from a medical standpoint she was so interested in him. He looked so human, except for his fish parts and that was insane. 

“How...how can you be real?” The words seemed to just slip out of her and she immediately regretted it. That was such a stupid question and he seemed to know it. 

He stopped chewing to give her an amused look, “How is anything real?” He asked after he swallowed the food. “Humans do not care about the world, they care about themselves and often times that is enough of a veil over their eyes.” 

“There have been tales of mermaids.” She pointed out, “of how they drag sailors into the sea, seducing them with their beauty.” 

A sly grin spread across his lips, “Perhaps, but you didn’t seem to give them any credible thought until you saw me, am I correct?” 

He wasn’t wrong and that bothered Sakura, maybe it was stubborn pride that pushed her to respond, “Personally I did not believe in such stories, but there are many among our crew that believe the stories of beautiful half fish and monsters in the deep.” 

“I had assumed you were pirates,” He looked thoughtful, “am I being taken to auction?” 

“You don’t seem overly concerned.” She grumbled.

He shrugged, it was such a common human gesture that it made her pause. He had been around humans before, unless mermaids shrugged which she doubted. 

“I’ve been imprisoned for over a decade.” He told her, “Perhaps I have accepted my fate.” 

He sounded so defeated, so tired and it hurt her. Her throat felt dry and it became painful to swallow, and barely managed to hold back the tears but her voice was breaking, “You-” 

“SAKURA!” The door slammed open revealing a furious Sasuke and a concerned Naruto. Sasuke grabbed her and tried to pull her out of the room while Naruto ran into the room probably to close the glass case’s top. Itachi had retreated back into the water, his red eyes watching her. 

“Stop Sasuke, he’s not-” 

“Are you stupid!” He hissed at her, “Why would you open the cage, what if he tried to kill you!” 

Sakura increased her struggles but Sasuke didn’t let up even a bit and had successfully dragged her out of the room and halfway up the stairs when Naruto joined them. 

“I think you should let her go Sasuke.” Naruto said, watching his two friends struggle against each other. 

“No, she has clearly lost her mind, or is under the influence of that thing to open that case.” 

His words just made her angrier. “My mental state has always been better than yours Uchiha.” She snapped at him, uncaring at the moment of the hurt in his eyes, “I of my own free will opened that case to give him food.” 

“Why were you alone with it?” Sasuke questioned, “You don’t know what it’s capable of Sakura, you cannot put yourself in that position-” 

“Why Sasuke, why shouldn’t I do that? It’s not like I have a baby that he can kill inside me.” Sasuke lost all color and Sakura was able to break free of his hold and ran up to the deck and then her quarters.

Long after Sakura had left, Naruto placed a comforting hand on Sasuke’s shoulder, “Sasuke.” 

“Release the mermaid Naruto.” Sasuke growled, pushing off his friends hand and stomping to his own quarters. 

“Fuck.” Naruto cursed, as Sasuke disappeared from sight. This was a mess that would never be fixed.

Itachi turned his eyes away from the poster depicting the anatomy of an eye as the door to his room opened. He ignored the warm, fluttery feeling in his chest as his pink haired doctor walked in, a welcoming smile on her lips.

“Uchiha-san, I’m surprised to see you here, on time.” She said as she walked over to the computer and began to pull up his patient files. “From what the staff has been telling me you don’t always cooperate with your appointments.”

“I never had a reason to hurry before.” He responded, watching with interest as her slim fingers moved across the keyboard. Her well manicured nails making soothing ‘clacking’ noises as they pressed each key.

“Oh, are some new requirements at the station?” She asked, turning her eyes to him and away from his file.

“It’s more of a personal matter.”

“I see.” She walked to him, putting on her stethoscope and pressing the resonator against his chest. “Deep breaths.”

He complied and relished in the warmth her proximity brought him and her sweet perfume.

“Since the surgery your breathing has gotten better and based on your recent x-rays I can confirm that your lungs are also healing.” She moved back to the computer and turned the screen towards him. “A side by side comparision of your lungs before and after.” She pointed at a few dark spots on the screen, “The smaller ones have all but disappeared while the bigger ones have shrunk a noticeable amount. I must say you’re making a remarkable recovery.”

“None of this would’ve been possible without you Haruno-sensei.” He said, using what many women had referred to as his ‘sexy voice.’ He thought it was ridiculous but any tool he could use in seducing the young doctor he would use. He refrained from smiling as he saw a tinge of pink her cheeks.

“Nonsense, any doctor could’ve performed the procedure.” She said, turning back to the computer, perhaps to distract herself from his charms.

“Perhaps,” He grinned, “but it was you and for that I am extremely thankful.”

Sakura seemed more flustered and it showed in her movements, her breathing was slightly faster and he noticed the slight shaking of her hands as they hovered over the keyboard. “F-flattery won’t get you a lollipop Uchiha-san, those are reserved for children.”

“I wasn’t aiming for candy Sakura,” Oh yeah he was really pushing the charm, basically purring her name, “something more age appropriate?”

Sorry for being away for a while, my credential program got super crazy and everything had to take a backseat to that.

Pairing: Sakura & Sasuke 

“All your fault….send me back...idiot…”

A familiar but unfamiliar voice woke the Uchiha from the darkness that seemed normal to him these days. He pretended to be asleep, making sure his breathing hadn’t changed and tried to feel the presence of the Kusanagi at his hip, but nothing.

“You’re so much more trouble than you’re worth I swear Sasuke.”

The tone, the way she said his name...Sakura? He felt his body relax a bit, he was no longer bleeding out next to his brothers body. He was safe, at least for now. He knew Sakura wouldn’t hurt him, but she might do something foolish like tell Naruto or worse Konoha. Not that he cared, he had killed his brother and his purpose in life was over.

“I know you’re awake.” She sounded impatient, something he couldn’t remember ever being directed at him.

“Where are we?” He asked, giving up the farce of sleeping and cracking open his eyes to peer at the blurry pink head of hair before him.

“In some cave by the sea.” She replied, “You were taken by the masked man and…” She hesitated to continue, “Anyway he’s gone.”

“The one from the Akatsuki?”

“Hm.”

Soothing, healing chakra seeped into his tired body, bring a numbing coolness wherever it went. He let out a grunt of thanks as she continued.

“Look at me Sasuke.” He wanted to glare at her, he didn’t want to look at her, he wanted to sleep, to heal. “We don’t have time you stubborn child.”

He snapped his eyes open and glared at her in annoyance, “What.” He hissed, his vision still a bit blurry, but he could make out green eyes staring at him.

“We can’t stay here.” immediately his muscles tensed and he tried to get a sense of their surroundings. There was a threat in Sakura’s words, there was a reason. “Whoever brought us here will probably be here soon and we will not be waiting for them.”

Brought us here...it seems Sakura didn’t find him by chance.

“You won’t last long on your feet.” She watched him sit up and handed him his cloak and sword. “I’ll carry you.”

“I don’t nee-”

“You’ll thank me later.” She scoffed and with virtually no effort she flung him on her back and ran out of the cave.

Sasuke wanted to push off of her, he wanted to demand to be put down, but something about Sakura made him stop. She was different and it wasn’t her taller, slimmer form, no it wasn’t that but rather she was pregnant.

“Sakura.”

“Not now.” She hissed at him, “Can’t you feel that chakra?”

Maybe you guessed it by now, Future Sakura, avenger Sasuke.

“Is he-”

“He’s fine.” She interrupted him, running a hand through her ruffled short hair, “The bullet didn’t do any serious damage. I recommend you have your goons,” She gave him a pointed look, “pick up some painkillers and antibiotics. I’ve attached him to a drip, let that finish completely before you move him.”

“Sakura.” Green eyes met relieved black as he leaned forward and pressed his forehead against hers. The contact made her blush slightly but she leaned in and closed her eyes, enjoying the intimate contact she rarely ever had with her childhood best friend. “Thank you.”

Not the Same (SasuSaku)

Sakura jumped as the door to her office swung open, slamming against the wall as her teacher stepped into the room. Sakura was too shocked to do anything other than stare at her mentor, who looked extremely angry.

A thick medical file was dropped onto her desk, the words “Uchiha Sasuke,” printed boldly across the front. Green eyes flickered between the papers and her teacher, her mind rapidly coming to a conclusion for what this could mean.

“That damn bastard is refusing to comply with the medics in charge of his case.” She snapped at Sakura, as she continued to grumble curses under her breath. “no good, ungrateful punk.”

“Shishou-”

“i will personally break every bone in his body so he will no longer be able to resist treatment if you do not get him under control.” The Hokage gave her a stern look, making her one hundred percent certain that threat was real.

“Yes.” Sakura quickly responded.

“Report back to me tomorrow.” With that her shishou swept out of the room, not bothering to close Sakura’s door.

Sakura swallowed and looked down at the file.

“What have you done now Sasuke.” She sighed, pulling the file closer to her and opening it. She was already aware of his injuries and what treatments were being done on him, she also knew the nurses that were in charge of him and had approved of the choices so she wasn’t sure what had gone wrong.

For dinner she met up with Naruto for ramen at Ichiraku’s and told him about her new duties. 

“I think he doesn’t like strangers.” Naruto replied after finishing his third bowl of ramen. “it must be hard for him to trust anyone in the village after everything.

“I don’t think Tsunade-shishou would’ve gotten that angry if it was just simple mistrust on Sasuke-kun’s part.” Sakura grumbled.

“When do you get to see the teme?”

“Tomorrow morning.”

“Be careful Sakura-chan, Sasuke hasn’t been the same since-well, since he left.”

She didn’t need Naruto to tell her that, she was happy that he was back but she still had dreams where he would appear and try to kill her. Rationally she knew that Sasuke wouldn’t hurt her, at least not now. During the beginning of the war, he was someone else, someone who wasn’t the teammate she remembered, someone she couldn’t recognize.

All that changed when he apologized to her after his fight with Naruto but the memories still haunted her. There was no doubt that she trusted Sasuke with her life, but there was something there that still irked her. She could trust him with herself but when it came to others, she wasn’t that sure.

She nodded and finished her ramen.

The next day she walked past three sets of anbu guards, not only to make sure that Sasuke stayed inside, but also to protect him from any potential enemies he had made during the war, which were quite a few.

The closer she got to his cell the heavier the air felt. Waiting for her outside of the door was Suzane, one of the medics that was assigned to Sasuke, or at least was. She had met one of the others when she checked in at the main hospital building and if the broken wrist was anything to go by, she could understand why the other two weren’t there to brief her.

“Haruno-san.” Suzane bowed at her and it didn’t take long for Sakura to recognize the burn on the other medics arm.

Sakura understood her teachers anger now, Sasuke had lashed out at his medics, not just one, but all of them.

She didn’t ask questions, she just listened.

“He is stabilizing, at least health wise.” The words ‘but not mentally’ hung clearly in the air. “But he is sensitive about his eyes being treated in any way. Other than when Shizune-sensei or Tsunade-sama have come in, we haven’t been able to get a reading on his chakra.”

Sakura nodded at her, “Will you be accompanying me?”

“Tsunade-sama didn’t want you to be alone since this was originally a four person team, she believes that if someone is working with you there is a chance that he will allow them to treat him alone if needed.”

Sakura would’ve laughed if she wasn’t getting slightly more and more upset, she was mad at everyone. She was mad at her shishou for not assigning her to Sasuke from the beginning, saying it was a conflict of interest. She was mad at Sasuke for hurting other Konoha ninja.

“Suzane do you mind if I go in alone.” She wanted to talk to Sasuke alone before bringing in Suzane, she needed to explain to him what was going to happen, and also ask him why he did what he did.

“Are you sure?” The concern on the younger girls face pained Sakura, she hated that someone thought that Sasuke was going to lash out at her.

Like some kind of animal.

“I’ll be fine.” Sakura’s grip on the files tightened, “Why don’t you take the day off. I’ll explain the situation to Sasuke-kun today so it won’t be a surprise tomorrow.”

The girl bowed, “Thank you Haruno-san.”

Sakura watched the girl practically run through the hall before turning her gaze back to the door. Sasuke was on the other side and probably already knew she was here.

Taking a few seconds to compose herself, Sakura put a smile on her face despite her inner turmoil and pushed open the door.

“Good morning Sasuke-kun.” She said, closing the door behind her, “I’m going to turn on the lights.” The dark room flooded with artificial light and Sakura could make out the figure of her teammate under the covers, maybe still asleep. She doubted it, but would give him time to react.

She put the files, which she had read the night before, on a table next to his bed and walked over to push open the curtains, letting in the morning sunlight.

“It’s really nice outside, but you can feel the summer creeping in. It’s going to become a scorcher out there in a few weeks.” She turned her gaze away from the hospital grounds to find Sasuke staring at her with mismatched eyes. “Do you need help sitting up?”

Wordlessly Sasuke sat up, the covers were pushed to the end of the bed as his legs hung over the side, the hospital pajamas hanging loosely off his form.

Sakura made her way over to him and began to unbutton his shirt, “Why did you attack those nurses Sasuke-kun?” Looking up from her hands she met his eyes, but he immediately closed them, his jaw flexing in that stubborn way she remembered from her genin days. “You’re being held under watch Sasuke-kun, attacking innocent medics isn’t going to help when the council-” 

Sakura barely held back a gasp as an angry eyes glared at her, the sharingan spinning menacingly. It wasn’t too long ago that Sasuke wanted to destroy Konoha, or rather the council, and after hearing about the truth of his brother at the end of the war, she could understand why. She also knew that the appeal process had yet to be complete and that the council was looking for ways to have Sasuke punished harshly.

Pushing back the fear she glared back at him, “Don’t you dare be angry at me Sasuke-kun, what you did was beyond being a difficult patient.”

“Hm.”

“Tsunade-shishou has put me in charge of you, and if you don’t cooperate then she will use any means necessary to make you and you won’t like it.”

“Then stay.” His voice was deeper than usual due to misuse and she made a note to get him some water.

She rolled her eyes, “As if I have a choice,” She pushed the shirt over his shoulders, letting it fall onto the bed before bringing a chakra laden hand across his chest. “After I’m done with the initial check up, go take a shower and I’ll bring in some breakfast and fresh clothes. You seem to have healed up quite a bit so I’ll have Naruto bring you some clothes that might be more comfortable than the hospital ones.” One look at his face and she held back a laugh, “I’ll make sure they’re not orange.”

It was getting easier to be in the same room as him, that’s for sure. 

After checking up on the larger injuries, she had to check on his eyes. She remembered reading the report one of the nurses had written before quitting that he never let them get near his eyes. She was expecting some resistance, or a sign that he was uncomfortable with her being near such precious eyes, but there was nothing. He didn’t twitch, he didn’t flinch, he didn’t even tense up.

“The pathways are clear for the most part,” She said out loud as she pushed her chakra through the chakra paths that connected to his eyes. “I cleared whatever was there but since your system is trying to keep both side even it’ll mess up from time to time causing migraines or light sensitivity. This won’t be a problem in the long term, just until your body adapts. I’m not sure how long that will take, given that this hasn’t happened before.”

Sakura kept the conversation going with minimal input from the Uchiha, but that didn’t really bother her that much. When he finally went to shower Sakura gathered the old clothes and sheets, placing them in a bin outside the door and replaced them with clean ones, leaving a pair of clean pajamas before heading out to the main building.

She sent a message to Naruto about the clothes and gathered Sasuke some breakfast. She had her regular shift at the hospital after she bandaged him up again, and until the evening she didn’t need to check up in Sasuke again.

Based on his condition and rate of healing, Sasuke would be out of the hospital within a month. He would be put under house arrest with heavy chakra suppressors until the final verdict is reached in two months.

After bringing the Uchiha his food and gathering her things she left him with a promise to check up on him tonight. She began her shift at the hospital and thanks to no emergencies she wasn’t completely exhausted by the end of the day.

When she saw Sasuke again he was dressed in a grey shirt and black pants, it seems Naruto restrained from bringing in any vibrant colors that would drive Sasuke crazy. When she got close enough to smell him she realized he was wearing Kakashi-sensei’s clothes. The smell of dog seemed to cling to all of her old sensei’s lounging clothes, something she had learned during her time as a gennin.

“At least they’re not orange?” She smiled, “Your nose can’t get used to color.”

He responded with a grunt, the disgruntled expression on his face reminded her of a kicked puppy and she fought to hold back a laugh. “Everything seems normal.” She said instead, “Which is a good sign considering everything.” Her eyes strayed down to his bandaged arm. Unlike Naruto, he had denied receiving a prosthetic opting for whatever reason to just make do with what he now had. He wouldn’t explain his reasoning so she and Naruto had just let it go. She often wondered such things but...

She let out a sigh, quickly pushed the thoughts aside, “Someone will bring you dinner once I’m gone, try not to scare them away Sasuke-kun I can’t do everything for you.” She gave him a pointed look but his expression didn’t give anything away. “Anyway, I’ll see you tomorrow, goodnight.”

“Hm.”

I wanted to write something where Sasuke is a more unstable character because despite everything that happened in canon where he comes back all calm and shit, I disagree. I wanna write a Sasuke that has trust issues against everyone who isn’t his immediate ‘family’. I want a Sasuke who is a bit less forgiving and still caught up in the darkness of the truth he had learned during the war. He still has a lot of stuff to work through and I don’t think he’ll ever be alright. At least that what I want to explore and write.

Based on all the Uchiha clan, mafia/yakuza pictures I’ve seen floating around tumblr.

“Bring me Sakura Haruno or I will kill you and your entire family.” Sasuke barked coldly at the dark haired man kneeling before him.

“Yes boss.” The man managed to say before he scurried off to just that.

Half an hour later a blindfolded, gagged pink haired woman was dragged into the room. Sasuke frowned at how rumpled she looked, but knew she probably put up enough of a fight.

He nodded at Ryuji who pulled off the blindfold, revealing the brightest green eyes Sasuke had ever seen. They were a bit scared as she took in the room around her before finally focusing on him. Ryuji took off the gag, but left her hands tied.

“S-S-Sasuke!” She gasped, recognition dawned on her and the fear lessened, but anger was quick to replace it. “What’s going on?”

“I apologize for how I got you here but I need your help.” He began, turning his back to her as he made his way towards the room where his brother was. “Come on.”

The man behind her gave her a nudge and while she wanted to kill the Uchiha. bastard she decided to follow him.

“Sasuke when people need help they usually call you on the phone, not have some creep kidnap them on their day off!” She snapped, turning to glare at the man behind her who smartly didn’t make eye contact with her.

“It was important.” He growled, pushing open a door revealing room with only a bed and a table at the center. Sasuke nodded at her to enter the room. Her eyes widened as they narrowed on the occupent of the bed, laying there in obvious pain was Uchiha Itachi, Sasuke’s older brother.

“What...” She breathed out as she neared the bed.

“He was shot getting into his car.” Sasuke explained, “We can’t risk taking him to a hospital.”

“Sasuke, I swear to god if your suggesting that I try to operate on him he-”

“You will do it!” He snapped at her, anger and spit flying in all directions, before he seemed to catch himself. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He got on his knees and bowed to her. “Sakura...please, if you don’t help him now I...I don’t want to lose my brother.”

Sakura pushed back tears, never had she seen Sasuke in this state, and she didn’t want to again.

“G-Get up you idiot.” She snapped at him, “I’m assuming you have everything I’ll need.” He nodded, “Good, I need water, a lot of it.”

Character Analysis Rambles

Itachi Uchiha

On Romance

Whether it be a man or woman I believe that Itachi is not the kind of person who bothers himself with interacting with people outside of those that fulfill his plans, whether it be in the shinobi world or an AU where he is a CEO or a police officer. After watching the show and reading the novels I’ve come to this conclusion based on a few things that were prevalent in both sources.

Itachi never made any friends during his time at the academy because he wouldn’t gain anything from having them. The only reason he and Shisui are able to develop a relationship was because Shishui impressed him with his skills as a ninja and they were able to bond over that. When he gradutes from the academy he still doesn’t ‘make friends’ with any of his fellow shinobi because he doesn’t need them to be friends.

He has a goal that usually pushes him and he doesn’t let anything distract him from it. He is willing to do anything to achieve that goal, even if it’s sometimes taking things too far.

When you take this kind of devotion or obsession and add a romantic twist to it, whoever Itachi sets his sights on has to be able to handle it. I don’t mean obsession as in Itachi becoming a yandere, but more like he would be in love, and he would love deeply. He would do whatever it took to make his SO happy, even if it comes to disobeying his family or village. We saw how far he went for Sasuke, so it shouldn’t be surprising that he could do the same thing or worse for his SO’s sake.

Sometimes I like to write a character analysis for whoever I’m interested in writing about just to give me an idea of what I’m working with. I like to know the basic traits of my characters before putting them in different settings. I like to have a base because once I have that I can infer how they’ll react in different situations, both in cannon and an AU.

This is my opinion of a character, and while some things might not be accurate, this is how I like to portray them. Of course like everything else in life, nothing remains the same including my views on a character. Let me know if you agree or disagree with my interpretation and why, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Better Off Knowing (ItaSaku)

Non-Massacre

When Sasuke finally made it home, his mother and older brother had already started dinner, his father still being in the police office finishing off some last minute reports. At his mothers orders, he quickly changed into clean clothes and joined the two in the dining room.

There was some sort of tension in the air that he couldn’t put his finger on, but he wanted nothing more than to be with the dobe eating that disgusting ramen right about now. The way his mother was eyeing him before looking at Itachi was unnerving, but he was an Uchiha, he wasn’t going to address it.

Instead he said, “The fish is good mother.”

“Your brother brought some back from his mission today.” Mikoto replied, “He had a lot of surprises to be honest.”

“Really?” Raising a brow, Sasuke turned to look at Itachi. “Bring me anything?”

“Maybe next time.” Itachi said, grabbing some of the pickled sides as he continued to eat.

Sasuke rolled his eyes, of course his brother wouldn’t just come out with it, but he wasn’t going to play these games. He was too tired from dealing with his teammates. Naruto was always giving him a headache and even Sakura was acting weirder than usual today, maybe he would request a solo mission soon to get his mind off of his crazy family.

The rest of dinner went by without incident but it was getting harder to ignore the looks his mother was sending his brother and a burning of curiosity was beginning to light in the pit of his stomach but strong Uchiha upbringing prevented him from demanding answers from his family.

It was when his mother had cleaned up the table and had brought out some tea that Itachi proceeded to ruin his life.

“Sasuke.” Black eyes met similar black.

“Yeah?”

“I will be courting Sakura Haruno with the intent to wed.”

Unable to form thoughts, much less words, Sasuke stared at his brother in shock.

“Mother believed that you were better off knowing.”

Late Night Snaps 1

“You’d think your dad would look happier.” Sakura nudged the Uchiha at her side, “His first born just got married.”

“My father won’t be happy until nii-san produces an heir.” Sasuke scoffed.

“I’m think you’re exaggerating a bit teme.”

“You wouldn’t understand idiot.”

“I’m not sure I’d even want to.” Naruto grumbled. “Your clan is exhausting.”

“Don’t be rude Naruto.” Sakura scolded, but if she was being honest she agreed with the blond. Of course telling Sasuke was like asking for trouble.

“Can we leave yet Sakura-chan?”

“It’s not over yet Naruto.”

“Sakura-chan if we stay here any longer I have a feeling the bastards mom is going to make you two get married.”

Sasuke and Sakura looked at each other then across the room at Mikoto who was watching them with a calculating look in her eyes.

“Gross, who would want to marry this guy.” Sakura hissed at Naruto, her face burning at the thought of marrying her childhood rush.

“Please you should be honored that my mother even considers you.” Sasuke retorted, annoyed at her quick refusal.

Green eyes flashed in anger, “Honored?” Naruto groaned, he should’ve just kept his mouth shut. Sakura got to her feetl “Who would be honored to marry a prudish, brother complex having, momma’s boy!”

“P-Pr-PRUDISH!” Sasuke jumped to his feet glaring daggers at his pink haired teammate. “Well who would want to marry a unfeminine hot head like you!”

“How dare you!”

Unknown to the arguing pair the entirety of the Uchiha clan had their eyes on them. Mikoto had a smile on her face, Fugaku looked blank faced as ever, Itachi was sighing, and Shisui was laughing his ass off.

Late night snaps are short pieces that I wanted to write but not explain, sometimes requests will be fulfilled as snaps and who knows maybe they’ll eventually turn into longer stories.

There is a part 2

“Itachi you are twenty six years old and the council are pushing for your marriage and I can no longer deny their request.” The uninterested expression on his eldest sons face only frustrated Fugaku. He slammed his fist onto the table that separated them. “You cannot ignore this son!”

“I see no reason for any kind of union father.” Itachi turned his gaze to the older Uchiha. “I can rule our people without the need of a woman.”

“Be as that may, the title of crowned princess and future queen is not an empty role Itachi. Your claim on the throne is weakened and I will not accept my brothers insane son as the future king of the land.”

Itachi held back a smile at the mention of his ‘insane’ cousin. Shisui hated the idea of being in charge of anything so much, he acted as the fool so no one in their right minds would offer him any position of power.

He said nothing to his father though, but he also knew there was no other choice in the matter. His mother had convinced his father that marriage was not necessary for the past five years, so he could no longer rely on his mother. Oh well, perhaps he could delay the process for as long as possible.

He nodded at Fugaku. “If that is what the council demands then I accept father.”

Fugaku stared at him, wondering for a second if he had heard wrong. Did his son just say yes? He was expecting this to continue for a good hour or so before his eldest gave in.

“I’m sure you and mother have a list of eligible women you wish to introduce me to.” Fugaku nodded, of course they did. Mikoto had started compiling a list about three years ago. “Then tomorrow we can begin.”

One Month Later

“This is ridiculous.” Sasuke growled as he watched Itachi dance with girl after girl, sporting the same sickening smile for the past hour.

“Oh calm down Sasuke,” Sakura rolled her eyes at him as she watched Naruto scarf down the mountain of food he had brought over from the refreshments table. She knew that Lady Tsunade was going to kill her if the stupid blond ruined his clothes before the sun even set. “If you spill any of that on your clothes Naruto I swear to the gods that you will never be able to sit down normal again.” The blond hesitated for a second before slowing down a bit.

“Why are you even here you idiot.” Sasuke glared at Naruto.

“I don’t appreciate you both teaming up on me like this.” Naruto snapped at them, “I’m here because your crazy mother wanted the old lady here.”

Sakura slapped the blonde behind the head, “It’s Lady Tsunade, have some respect.”

“Why aren’t you out there dancing?” Sasuke asked Sakura, “I’m assuming you're not married.”

Sakura glared at him, “Oh you noticed.”

“I’m not surprised, no one has the courage to get tied down to someone with your-”

“Are you trying to start a fight Sasuke?” Sakura interrupted him, “Are you jealous that Itachi is having all the girls pay attention to him or rather,” She crossed her arms over her chest, a knowing grin spreading across her lips, “you’re jealous that you’re gonna have to share your big brothers atten-”

Sasuke stepped forward and covered her mouth with his hand, glaring down at her in a way that would’ve sent weaker men running, but she was not a weaker man. She was Sakura Haruno, the esteemed student of the greatest healer in the world. Instead she met his gaze, amusement shining in her green eyes.

“Sasuke!” The three friends flinched at the scolding tone Queen Mikoto’s voice had. “That is no way to treat a lady.”

Sasuke let go of Sakura refusing to look at his mother as he tried to hide a pout, “Sakura is hardly a lady.”

Sakura jabbed the arrogant prince in the side at the comment. “No wonder you don’t have any female suitors.” Sakura and Naruto failed to hide their snickers. “Sakura why are you not engaging in the activities?”

Schooling her expression Sakura met the queen’s gaze head on. “I do not think the council will approve of one such as myself for the crowned princes bride so I-”

“That’s nonsense.” Mikoto interrupted her, “Give me a moment.” With that the queen disappeared into the crowds leaving behind the three confused friends.

“What does she mean…” Sakura and Sasuke quickly put together what the queen might’ve left to do and both of them went pale. “Oh no.”

Naruto looked at the two of them confused, “What is it?”

Sakura turned panicked green eyes at the taller Uchiha, “Do something.”

“This is your fault!” Sasuke snapped at her, “Why did you come if you knew this was going to happen!”

“I didn’t know this was going to happen Sasuke. I did not come here with the intention of catching your brothers eyes so I could marry him and be your sister in law!”

“Then why did you come!”

“I came to make sure Naruto didn’t make a mess of himself!”

“Naruto why do you have to be such an idiot!” Sasuke snapped at him.

“Why can’t you just act like a normal prince for once in your life!” Sakura grumbled, her eyes looking over the blond’s rumpled form.

“Why is this suddenly my fault!” Naruto asked, though the sauce on his face didn’t help his case.

“He’s going to come over here and ask you to dance Sakura.” Sasuke whispered, leaning closer to his pink haired friend. “My brother likes women who are the opposite of you, so just be yourself and I’m sure he’ll lose interest.”

Sakura felt her eye twitch, Sasuke definitely had a way with words and she would get him back for this later.

“He’s coming…” Naruto warned just a second before the crowned prince arrived before Sasuke and his two friends.

“Sasuke.” Itachi offered his younger brother a small smile before turning his eyes to Sakura. “It has been a while Sakura.”

“Likewise.” She smiled back.

“Would you like to accompany me for a dance.” He asked, gracefully holding out a hand.

Sasuke nudged her a bit as he moved to sit next to Naruto and she knew he wanted her to start now. Gathering her courage she offered him a pleasant, but obviously fake smile. “I would like to say no but since you’ve already done the motion and your mother specifically asked you to dance with me I don’t think I have a choice.”

Itachi watched her with a raised brow before a similar smile spread across his lips, “Then we shouldn’t disappoint.”

“Sakura can’t dance for shit brother, take it from me.” Sasuke spoke up, “Protect yourself.”

Sakura glared back at the younger Uchiha as she placed her hand in Itachi’s.

“I’m sure I can lead her better than you little brother.” Itachi didn’t bother looking at his brother's expression as he brought Sakura to the dance floor.

Sakura was nervous, she knew her palms were sweaty and hoped that Itachi wouldn’t notice, or maybe if he did he would decide he didn’t like girls with sweaty hands. That would be great, right?

“It’s been four years since you and Naruto were last in the Uchiha lands if I recall correctly.” Itachi said, “I have heard of your achievements from my brother.”

“Lady Tsunade is a great teacher when she is motivated.” Sakura smiled, “With Naruto almost ready to take over she wanted to train me so that she could step down as both the healer and ruler at the same time.”

“You have come far in four years and I believe with continuing training you might even surpass your master, if the rumors are to be believed.” He watched with interest as color blossomed on her cheeks.

“Well people might exaggerate.” She laughed nervously, not used to being praised by someone as powerful as the crowned prince.

“What do you enjoy doing during your free time Sakura?” He asked as the tempo of the song mellowed out a bit more.

“Ah, Naruto and I spare often to keep up with our training and we go hunting sometimes. I’m also studying ways to make new medicine and new surgical procedures.” She hoped that sounded boring enough, though he definitely didn’t give anything away thats for sure.

“Interesting.” Again it was difficult for Sakura to figure out if he actually found it interesting or if he was just being polite. She was used to reading between the lines for Sasuke, but his brother was a completely different person.

“Recently we discovered a new kind of herb in the mountains to the south and they seem to add a high regeneration rate to…” She continued describing to him the benefits of a plant they had come across during one of their missions for the remainder of the song while he quietly listened. She had a feeling he didn’t understand or care for a word of what she was saying but he kept a pleasant, tight lipped smile on his face the entire time.

When the song finally ended he escorted her back to where he had got her before drifting back into the crowd. No doubt to dance with his countless other suitors.

“Well how did it go?” Sasuke asked once Sakura had settled down next to him.

“I talked about the restorative properties of the-”

“Good.” The Uchiha slumped in relief, “That kind of talk could bring anyone out of the mood.”

“You’re really trying to start a fight aren’t you Sasuke.” Sakura growled.

“What did you think?” Mikoto asked as her eldest son reached her side.

“You are never wrong mother.” He said, before bowing his head in greeting to the smirking slug princess. “Sakura is definitely worth noting.”

“Damn right.” Tsunade said as she shot back another glass of the Uchiha’s finest Fire Whisky.
