LGBT Ship Tournament Announcement

As the title implies, the next tournament featured on this blog will be for canon LGBT ships! The same canon bar as the character tournament applies here - explicit and on-screen, heavily implied, or confirmed by an actor or writer are all acceptable.

The only rule is that the ship must be F/F, M/M, NB/NB, NB/F, or NB/M (or a polyamorous ship with some combination of the above involved). I recognise that some M/F ships might have an element of queerness for some people - for example, if members are trans or ace - but for this tournament I'd like to focus on the dynamics above as those situations would have been more applicable to the character tournament than the ship one.

Hey, I think I forgot to put the name of the media some couples I submitted were from. I only put their character names, should I resubmit with that bit included?

If the character names are quite unique or something else makes it clear (e.g. propaganda you've written), it should be fine, but if there's a chance I'll mix them up with another character it may be better to resubmit!

does it count when video games allow you to choose your gender? like for example, fenhawke can be either M/F or M/M but if I specify male Hawke/Fenris, is it allowed?

Yes, that counts! As long as it can be canonically queer, it's fine :)

Welcome to the Romance Option Tournament!

This a tournament dedicated to romance options in video games and visual novels, inspired by seeing so many over on @lgbtcharactertournament and @character-design-tournament!

All kinds of games are allowed here, whether they're entirely romance-focused dating sim visual novels or big open-world RPGs with optional romance routes.

You can submit a character at the Google Form link here! One character per form submission, but feel free to fill it out as many times as you like for different characters, there are no limits. Go wild and send in every single option from every game you've played if you like!

The submission deadline will be announced once I have a feel for the number of submissions and level of interest.

To the anon I just got, I fully agree with you :) I am in fact in a relationship just like yours and have made the exact same points to people before myself. I'm not entirely sure you're responding to my post itself accurately though? I didn't use any of the wording you referenced (and I certainly didn't imply anywhere that the identity of your partner can make you as a person less queer) and in fact actively made sure to point out that I know it's a thing.

Thanks for letting me know! Hopefully anon sees this and can participate in that one :D Though they've missed the window to submit

I'm still down to do it in future considering it would likely have different submissions and a different audience, but I'd rather not do it while someone else's is actively ongoing, so for now check this one out instead <3

i know this blog is more for canon lgbt content so far, but after this canon ship tournament would you be open to doing a tournament for non-canon lgbt ships?

I'm not opposed to it if there's interest!

Does it still count if it the ship's not canon yet but it's 100% confirmed that they're going to end up together?

I'd probably need you to specify in the submission exactly how you know it's 100% certain (e.g. if it's been said in an interview), but if I'm satisfied it is definitively going to happen then yes I'd allow it!

Does the ship have to be romantic. Or do QPRs count?

I think as a rule it wouldn't count, but I suppose this would have exceptions just because QPRs have so many different definitions and interpretations depending on who you ask - some QPRs would be basically indistinguishable from a romantic relationship while others would be nothing like one. I guess it's case by case?

Do ships that were together at one point but broke up later on count?

Yes! There's no need for it to be an endgame or long-term relationship.

Would you count it as a canon ship if it’s from a game where it being canon depends on player choice? I.e. it’s canon if the player romances a given character, but isn’t canon if they don’t?

Yes, I'd count that! Even if it's an optional route, if it can be canon then it's canon.

If 1 person has unrequited feelings it does not count

If they both have requited feelings, it does count.

I'm leaning towards this as well!

Hm, good question! I'll leave this up to you guys, since I'm genuinely of two minds here - would you consider a ship canon enough to be included if it was just one character having feelings for another and not a requited relationship? And tangentially, would you count a situation where two characters have requited feelings for one another but aren't together?

That should be pretty easy for me to fact-check myself when I look up the ships! But people are of course always welcome to elaborate in the canon explanation section if they think it might be confusing
