☀️ you've escaped the practice dungeons, let's enjoy a day in the sun together!
🤕 oh no! you've been hurt! and kenta is the only one around to help...let's hope that first aid training kicks in. @lgcaeri
on the way to practice in the legacy building, he heard the sounds of pain before he saw the person. curious, and having some time before his next lesson, he went towards the sound. still in lifeguard mode from his shift the past afternoon, his eyes assess the scene quickly. she is breathing at least which is good. he can't see any blood, but he hadn't been there to witness the event so he wasn't sure where to look.
"are you alright?" he asked, voice gentle and calm. he'd learned that voice when helping a kid jump in to the deep end for the first time. naturally, people in crisis match the energy of those around them. if kenta stayed calm, usually so did those who were hurt did as well.
kenta was, typically, more reserved. however, this korean workshop had been encouraging him to get out and talk with people. the best way to learn a language was to speak it after all. he wanted to do well in this workshop and on the youtube series to come in the next few weeks. so, during some free practice time, against most of his instincts, he was wandering around the legacy building, striking up random conversations.
today's victim participant, look vaguely familiar to kenta. he definitely had the aura of an actor or model, with a stylish outfit to match. kenta had just reviewed clothes in one of the korean books' he'd grabbed to help him study. so what a better time to strike up a conversation.
walking up to the stranger, he had every intention of saying hello, i like your shoes. where did you buy them? unfortunately for kenta, the term he'd recently learned for shoes sounded startingly close to a curse word. so what everyone else heard was, "hello, i like your prostitute. can i buy it?" with a bright sweet smile to accompany it.
the day koko entered male trainee dorm a, kenta let out a sigh of relief. koko is one of the few people at legacy kenta can speak japanese with--and he is so grateful for him. finally, someone in his dorm and classes that he doesn't have to stumble through every conversation. plus, koko was pretty great to be around, he was sweet and reminded kenta a bit of his sister back home. they'd been quick friends and kenta was nothing but grateful for him.
they were in their shared dorm room, studying for the workshops' they were assigned to for the next few weeks. unfortunately, the one thing kenta hated most in life was studying. in japanese, kenta sighed, "koko...i'm soooo tired of this book..." his head dropped so it was inside "is there anything more boring than verb" he paused, trying to remember the word in japanese. even when studying in his native language he hadn't been the best student. as he tried to find the word, his voice got more and more irritated. "conj...conjugat...whatever this stupid stuff is!"
kenta was doing what he figured most trainees would be, practicing into the wee hours of the night. it wasn't something he made a habit. he enjoyed getting to bed at a decent hour and enjoying the morning sunrise, then practicing his butt off before anyone else was awake. but, he had an evaluation coming up and wanted to make sure he did well. he was not going to caught behind his peers and on a one way plane back to japan.
he'd picked ice on my teeth by type zero, so the room was filled with a loud bass and flute. he was focused on learning the choreography, he'd worry about the vocal parts later. he wasn't usually one for more mature/dark concepts, but he'd been here a year. he couldn't solely rely on his "cutie pie face" as his sister called it.
he was so lost in learning the choreography that he didn't notice fabula's sori was in the room with him for a solid minute. once he noticed her through the mirror, he straightened up. he hadn't run into seniors all that often at his time at legacy. tired and now anxious, he wasn't quite sure what to do. he figured he should at least bow and greet her instead of standing there like an idiot. "hello," he said with a shy smile and a bow. "if you were coming to practice, i can leave." he started walking to turn the music off, which was still blasting in the speakers.
during her trainee days, she always wanted to stay late, but never could. she was a student back then, and needed her study time once trainee time was over, and a good night’s sleep before showing up at school. she’d finished university, and finally had the time to stay a bit later than other people. she enjoyed it, the building being quieter, practicing by herself, there was something so special about it to sori. sori is wandering down the halls, airpods plucked into her ears, so she doesn’t even properly notice there’s noise coming from the room she’s walking into.
she opens the door and spots an unfamiliar face, rather than closing the door though, she finds herself staring at this person she’s pretty sure she doesn’t know. he’s working with the same energy she had as a trainee, and he seems pretty good, good enough to make sori stare at him. she intends to leave, but, she’s stuck? she kind of feels like she’s watching some sort of concert, and she lets herself walk into the room and let the door close behind her.
“no, no” she shakes her head “no need to leave! sorry… i was kind of staring” she bites her lip “you’re good” she says, a genuine compliment, though sori is bad at giving those. “i’m uh, sori, cha sori i guess, and you? i feel like i haven’t seen you before”.
he wasn't sure if he should take it as a compliment, but he was surprised. "staring? at me?" there hadn't been many people, yet he'd tell himself, that wanted to watch him perform. really just coachs and fellow trainees, all checking off boxes on their to do list. his back straightened a bit, someone wanted to watch him dance.
cha sori...it's name he's pretty sure he should know, but, with how tired he was, he couldn't nail it down. looking at the other, he didn't recognize her from training sessions or meetings. the only other people that used this practice rooms were idols...oh shit. he bowed again, a bit deeper than before, "i'm kenta suzuki, a second year trainee. it's nice to meet you." he smiled and tried to fix his hair. first impressions with a senior should be good, right? he wanted to do well, always. "if you don't mind, since you were watching, did you have any feedback? anything i can do better?"
sena feels vindicated after hearing his intro. it sounded to her as if he'd already debuted. her smile grows just a bit wider, knowing the shoot is already going so smoothly. hopefully, this means they'll be able to wrap this video up well within their allotted shoot schedule. "the first shop is one that i've been wanting to try for a while," she says, turning to face the first location (where they set up the intro shot as well). "this shop is well known for their unique flavors!"
the girl walks into the ice cream shot, some of the camera crew already waiting inside to capture the pair's entrance. having been alerted in advance about their filming at the shop, there was a space reserved just for them, and they had clearly made sure all of their flavors were available.
she warmly greets the shopkeeper before looking over to the flavor selections. "wow..." she says, looking at the list of flavors on the board. she'd never seen the majority of these flavors before. "tea flavored ice cream? i've never seen that before." having to be 'on' for the cameras gets tiring after a while, so sena grows increasingly quieter as she continues searching through ice cream flavors, until suddenly, she's awkwardly just standing in front of the fridge, trying her best to pick a good option.
he made a slightly worried expression. "unique?" kenta was a bit hesitant towards new/unfamiliar foods. but, if the content demand he be adventurous, he would try it. he followed sena into the shop. he tried his best to hold back his shock at there being a prearranged set up and space for just the two of the them. it made him feel a bit like royalty. maybe he liked being on camera...
he followed sena's motions like a lost puppy, greeting the shopkeeper and joining her to choose his flavor. he scanned through the options quietly before excitedly pointing to one flavor. "ooh! blackberry ice cream. do you think it's like blueberry ice cream? it's my favorite." there was also a sweet corn that made his eyebrows raise. "what are you thinking noona?"

sena stands on her mark, taking a deep breath as the camera operator adjusts the view quickly. "is this your first time in an official release?" she asks. "don't worry, you'll catch on quickly." she had invited kenta to this event; since the day she met him, she could tell he had something in him that was going to make him a good idol. so, she took it upon herself to invite him as her friend for the upcoming super✰nova content, hoping this could help give him a taste of what could be to come if he debuts as an idol.
as soon as the camera begins rolling, the girl immediately 'turns on', smiling and waving. 'hi! this is nova's skye! and today is my day off, so i've invited my friend kenta to join me today." she points over to kenta, allowing him a moment to introduce himself.
after his introduction, she says "it's been so hot lately, hasn't it? so today, i thought it might be fun to go on an 'ice cream tour'. so, we'll got to some of the top trending ice cream shops in seoul and see how they compare to each other. what do you think, kenta? shall we get started?"
kenta nodded with a shy smile. he would be lying if he said he wasn't nervous--but that wasn't atypical? anyone would be nervous their first time on camera. at least he had a friend by his side! the main focus would be on sena, anyways. he just wanted to do his best not to mess the video up for her. he added, before the camera started rolling, "thank you again, noona, for inviting me on."
it was a bit amazing how she was able to turn it on so quickly. he hoped one day he could be that good. he tried to match her bright energy, smiling and wavy to the camera as he introduced him, "hello! i'm" he wasn't quite sure if he should identify himself as a trainee, so he opted out "kenta from kyoto! i'm excited to be here today."
again, he nodded a long with sena, though not as shy as before. he kepts his body turned towards the camera as well--that was someone people on tv did, didn't they? "ice cream is the perfect way to be beat the heat isn't it? let's do it!" he smiled brightly. he was genuinely excited to get to eat ice cream on the company's dime today. "where should we start first?"
OPEN EVENT 005: personality assessment

running down to the riptide, taken away to the dark side
MBTI - ISFJ "The Defender"
scrolling through 16personalities.com not sponsored, as soon as i read "the defender" i knew kenta would fit. when i first was devising his muse, he was a chill surfer boy that served as a fill in love interest for another muse of mine. and every good boyfriend defends their partner, right? as he's developed into his own thing™, he's become more and more of a little attack puppy. which gives isfj to me. sweet and nice, until he's put into protection mode. the "repressing their feelings" is also very kenta. he'll bottle it up until he explodes.
ENNEAGRAM - TYPE 6 "The Loyalist"
at the end of the day we all just want to be secure, right? kenta's always used people to feel safe. he also trusts, his people at least, to make good decisions for him--hence the moving to a brand spanking new country because his sister thought it was a good idea. while it may come off as humility, he genuinely doesn't see himself as anything amazing or otherworldly. he picks things up quick, sure, but anyone can do that, right? it's only with his people is he sure he can do great things.
DAEMON - HUSKY
i've said it once and i'll say it again--kenta suzuki = puppy. husky in particular suits him. a big ol' guy trotting along happily at your side, until danger is near. a switch is flipped, fangs are out, and you hear an aggressive growl. but, when he feels safe he's an energetic and ready to play. for some reason, that clicks when there's a camera on him...
like a husky, he's not afraid of a little hardwork to get where he's going, either. hence why he hasn't given up completely on this trainee stuff. but, at the end of the day, don't all huskies just want to play with the ones they hold dear?
OPEN EVENT 003: korean coach memory

"korean is hard" he groaned to his sister.
"harder than embryology?" she quickly retorted. he could hear the smirk on the other side of the line.
"i don't know--i don't even know what that is!" he's getting more frustrated. why did he call her again? "but korean is hard, you know i've never been good at school stuff. i thought i was going to be dancing and shit, not getting yelled at for the way my vowels sound."
"who yelled at you?" her voice audibly changed to big sister mode. it's the same tone she got when kids would pick on. "no one talks to my brother like that. i don't care how scrawny and wimpy you are." she said while dusting his school uniform off once.
he sighed. he didn't want to get into it. it'd been a long day. training and this new part time gig was starting to weigh on him. but he didn't have a choice. he knew if he mentioned his finances sakura would send him what little she had. he wasn't going to do that to her. the whole reason he'd picked up and moved was to help the two of them--not be more of a burden.
"kenta..." now it's the mom voice. the tell me or i'm just going to keep pestering you voice. he hated that voice.
"fine, just, it's not a big deal. i just want to complain."
if kenta was honest, he hadn't done a lot of language prep before boarding the flight to seoul. it was the least of his worries, until he stepped on the streets of seoul littered in an alphabet he could barely read.
he wandered around, phone camera pointing at nearly every sign he came across. by the grace of god he made it to legacy hq and thanked the heavens he wasn't the only japanese speaker in the sea of trainees. he struggled, but he survived.
kenta liked being good at things. aside from school, which he'd given up hope on that by first grade, he generally was good. at least, at the things he really tried at. swimming, stuck out the most, but even dancing he'd taken up pretty quickly. he wasn't a prodigy or anything, but he could make it through.
language, did not seem to be one of those things. when kenta wasn't good at things, he easily gave up. plus, he'd figured out how to say hello, thank you, love you, and good bye--what more did an idol really need? so, during his company designated korean lessons, he sat in the back of the class, usually zoned out.
on this day, a tuesday, the worst day of the week, he and another student in the back got a fit of giggles. they were mostly able to keep it down...
"kenta? haruto?"
their eyes shot up instantly, humiliation clear in the boys eyes.
"something you'd like to share? this is a language class, i always encourage discussion."
kenta looked to the other boy, who fixed his eyes straight to the ground. he looked back at the teacher. she was leaning on her desk casually, waiting for a response. "and remember, this is a korean only room." she smiled as she burned holes into kenta.
"uhm, uh. i--uhm... we." she kept looking at him expectedly. he tried looking at the board for something on topic, but it was all gibberish to him. each syllable was at a snails pace as he weakly muttered, "we practice our v-vo"
"vowels?" she corrected, "good, it sounds like they need some work." kenta nearly left the room. instead, his hands balled into tight fists and he looked down in shame. she continued, "there are plenty of boys in kyoto that would be eager to take your spots in the back of this class. remember that."
kenta silently slumped back down, stewing in his own anger.
--
"well, that's a jerk thing to do. you've only been there for a couple months after all! what do they expect, fluency? i mean i have the right mind to-"
"sakura" he interrupted her with a calm voice. a smile spread across his lips. "it's fine. it was my fault. i was being stupid and goofing off." it had taken the group free practice debrief with the couple of friends he'd managed to make here and his shift at the pool for him to get there--but he knew he was in the wrong.
"well, yeah, you were pretty stupid." she giggled. the sound of it made him start to giggle with her. god, he missed her.
the next day he came to class early, earlier than even the teacher. he sat at the very front of the class and fidgeted with his phone and the paper he'd brought while he waited. when the teacher arrived, he got up from the chair and bowed to the teacher.
then, in messy korean, he said, "i want to apologize for my behavior yesterday. it wasn't respectful or right. from now on, i'll work hard and do my best in class. i hope you can forgive me."
once he was finished, he was sure his pronunciation was trash. but, being the teacher she was, she smiled at kenta and asked for the paper. while students trickled in, waiting for class to start, kenta and their teacher worked on the pronunciation and flow of his statement.
kenta had the biggest smile when he finally nailed it.

a not so brief guide to: KENTA SUZUKI
kenta suzuki was shot into the earth on august 18th, 2005 and hasn't had a peaceful day since.
my basic premise with him is: percy jackson, but with even more family issues
to avoid making this too terribly long about past things that aren't a super big deal now, a brief synopsis of his childhood
tw: parental death, neglect
everything was fine until his parents died in a car accident when he was 5, leaving him and his older sister orphans in an incident
after that, the two were bounced around between grandparents, uncles, aunts, neighbors--basically anyone that would take them in.
eventually, around age 8, they settled down with their maternal aunt in kyoto.
aunt had her own kid (as well as a rotating door of unreliable boyfriends) to deal with, so kenta and sakura basically fended for themselves.
end of tw
kenta essentially did his best to avoid the troubles of his childhood and home life, doing anything and everything to keep out of the way and out of the house
he joined the swim club at his school, making a quick connection with the team's coach. it allowed him to stay out of the turbulent house he lived in & he really liked his coach--psuedo father figure kinda deal!
anyways, it's chill for the most part for a few years, swimming & grooving. he even gains a little confidence cause he's not so bad
then his coach is forced to leave the school, right before he starts high school
at around the same time, his sister started getting into japanese & korean idols, which means kenta is now into japanese & korean pop
for his high school club, again, to stay out of the house, he joins a dance team!
eventually, he graduates high school and has to like...figure out what to do with his life (eww) he works part time around kyoto, but all he really wants is to get somewhere on his own!
his sister suggests auditioning for a little company called legacy--and the rest is history! well not really that's kinda where our story starts
he celebrated one year at legacy on july 1st and he's very happy to be here! he is a little ansty/worried about the not debuting stuff--but mostly because he does Not want to be forced back to japan.
personality wise, off camera he's pretty reserved & quiet--save for the people he cares about. he's kinda like a puppy, cautious at first, then all over you.
in the same vein, he can also be a bit of an attack dog--pouncing at anyone that hurts the people he loves.
on stage he's a different beast. something about the lights, cameras, & applause clicks in his mind and he's free. he, honestly, doesn't feel more like himself than when he's got an audience cheering for him.
Kenta hides how silly he feels in his lifeguard outfit with a bright smile. His bright red outfit is courtesy of his job, which he'll have to rush to once he gets a few takes of this self-tape in, and a local party store. He just hopes that no one will need the spare rescue tube before he clocks in...
As he tilts his head to the side, the first move of the choreography he's attempting (0:38 - 1:14), he makes the worries of his part-time gig float away. He enjoys dancing and how it brings him out of the shell he built himself years ago. He doesn't have to worry about saying something wrong or stupid--his body does the talking for him. Now, at this stage of his training, his body might not hit every move as sharply as the fancam he studied, but he's resigned himself to that fact. Kenta focuses on the rhythm and keeping time with the music. Oh and smiling. He should definitely smile again.
Once complete with the short segment of Thrill Ride, he stands straight and bows to the camera, grabbing the tube that his steps had almost tripped over a few times. "Hello, I'm Kenta," he introduces, holding the tube appropriately in front of his chest. "The legacy trainee ready to save and protect your heart!" he continues, more confidently than he began. "I hope to be an idol your can depend on. Let's swim together soon!" He finishes with another bow, bright smile, and empathetic wave.
