เผ โธผ โธ โด GENERAL RUA UPDATES
honestly, she's largely still the same as she was last year - full of self doubts and wondering if she should continue being an idol trainee, or maybe try switching to another path and see if she fares there better. she still likes performing though and since it's what she's focused on the most since becoming a trainee, it's hard for her to justify making a decision to change paths because (potential) failure is scary!! what if she actually misses performing as an idol!!! wouldn't she be wasting all those previous years training!!!
it doesn't help either that she sees the opportunities others and not *her* are getting, which is adding to her doubts that she's made the right decision to keep to this path so far, and if she didn't focus on the right areas while training so she's seen as lacking in comparison to other trainees (which also makes her feel like a failure haha). that's why she's trying to branch out to other areas this year with workshops and such!!
at the same time, she's keeping cool on the outside so it's not really obvious to anyone that she feels like this, since she'd only admit this stuff out loud to people she's really close with and trusts. although anyone could accurately guess that she has some worries about being a trainee for four years now since she's not getting any younger and she's not ignorant of the stigma against older idols debuting either, etc :')
DEBUT EVALUATION สโฅษ LGC GROUP EVALUATION
เผ โธผ โธ โด rua spends weeks going through hell for a chance to debut.
rua was shocked that she had made it to the next round of the evaluations, but she also felt hope for once; that maybe her years of training were actually paying off so she doubted herself a little bit less - although she still felt a bit of imposter syndrome, wondering if she deserved this chance
still, with three songs to learn, each only being given a week to prepare before they performed it for coaches, she didn't have much time (both mentally and physically) to dwell on those thoughts because she spent every waking moment learning, practicing, and doing everything she could to put on a successful performance
her favourite song by far, and the one she felt most comfortable with, was HOT; it was actually one of the songs she was considering doing for the first round of evaluations so she was pleasantly surprised when she found out it'd be one of the songs they'd be doing
as such, she was already familiar with the song and choreo, so she took to properly learning it fairly well; it was the most confident she felt amongst all the weeks of different songs, and she was satisfied with her final performance of it
ACCENDIO was her next favourite, but she felt it didn't suit her as well as HOT did, so while she enjoyed the song on its own (it was also on her playlist to begin with), rua found it challenging to absorb the song well - but she would say she did better at it than HIGH HORSE, for example
speaking of HIGH HORSE, since the song was the most lyrical and contemporary of the bunch when it came to the choreography, rua struggled getting used to the movements and style of dancing because she's more comfortable with hard hitting or sensual(?) movements due to personal preferences; she didn't even want to think about the vocals of the song because they would definitely be way out of her range
she would've liked to show that being challenged and pushed out of her comfort zone meant she could rise to the occasion and meet--or exceed--expectations (both her own and the coaches') but she fears it was obvious how she seemed to start off strong until she started fizzling out, defeated
rua wouldn't have made any glaring or big mistakes, nor would she have failed to fully learn and execute any of the songs, but it was clear where she shined (weeks 2-4), where she got lost (weeks 5-6), and where she was just okay (week 1); after all, rua always puts in the work to not pull anyone down with her or stand out in a performance for being bad
generally speaking, her confidence started out average, then raised when she got to perform songs she was comfortable with, then dropped again with the unfamiliarity and general exhaustion from back-to-back preparations and evaluations in turn - so by the time it got to the last couple of weeks, rua felt like she was being humbled
"maybe that's why they put us together for this eval-- you singing and me rapping so together we can do this!" rua hopes she sounds as sincere as she genuinely feels saying this because even if they were struggling now, she hadn't lost hope or anything. plus, at least the coaches made sure their strongest and weakest skills balanced each other out in theory. rua also felt comfortable with the song they were doing so she had confidence that they could pull this off with more practice.
she nods as she listens to hyukjae's concerns, trying to think of how to help him. it was rare for her to be in this kind of position though, despite how long she's been a trainee, so she wasn't quite sure what to suggest or advise yet. "my honest opinion?" she repeats, pausing to listen to him go over his parts then considers her response, before finally answering. "i think trying something you're not used to will always feel foreign to anyone at first, so it's natural for you to feel lost and like it doesn't sound right at the moment. that doesn't mean you're bad though, or aren't capable of pulling it off."
after all, when she first started training, that was exactly how she was: lost and like a fish out of water, since it was her first time ever trying to sing and rap and dance. although she doesn't think she's amazing now, years later, she's at least self-aware enough that she has improved over time.
"whenever i'm learning a new song, rap or otherwise, i try to get familiar with the music and lyrics first," rua explains, fiddling with the water bottle in her hand as she speaks. "even if i don't get the flow or rhythm right, i find listening to the song and reading the lyrics over and over again helps me learn it faster so i can memorize it quicker, and then it won't feel as weird to me when i try practicing it myself." rua smiles, hopefully encouraging. "in fact, i'm going to do record us going through the revised choreo later and then repeatedly watch it so i can learn the new changes," she laughs before thinking of something. "do you want me to do your parts to give you an idea?" rua didn't want to overstep or anything though, so she'd only do it if hyukjae was okay with it.
title: we can do this
partner: @lgcrua
event: debut evaluation 001
to be frank, hyukjae was glad to be paired with @lgcrua for their assignment. even if they hardly interacted during their time at legacy, he paid attention to her and realized she was as skilled as he was, and in similar aspects as well, such as dancing and singing.
so things were supposed to be easier for them when they were handed their group song, but they were stuck and for all different reasons. rua, for example, seemed to be having a hard time adjusting to hyukโs changes in the original choreography, while hyukjae was just annoyed at how he couldnโt rap his lines properly. at some point, he just threw his sheets of paper, filled with notes, up as he stubbornly threw himself on the floor.
โdamn, this is so bad,โ he said in a frustrated sigh, staring at his partner. โi guess i need your rapping expertise on this.โ
rua knew something like debut evaluations wouldn't be easy-- of course not. staff were trying to decide who was ready and deserving of debut out of a huge pool of potential idols, and they as trainees needed to prove they had what it takes for a spot. still, rua didn't think she and hyukjae would run into this many problems when they started working on their duet.
she had agreed to changing some parts of the original choreography to better suit them, and performing as a duo, but it just wasn't clicking for her yet. granted, they were only at the beginning of their preparations so she supposes it might be expected but no matter how much she justified their setbacks, it was still downright frustrating.
rua wipes away the sweat that had gathered on her forehead, maybe a bit more roughly than she normally would, as she looks over at hyukjae's--admittedly dramatic--actions and finds herself smiling wryly. not at him of course, but because she agrees that things were looking kind of bad right now.
"i'm not really the authority on rapping but i can try," she lets out a little laugh and plops herself onto the floor next to him, water bottle already in hand to take several sips of it. "'dessert' does have a lot more rap verses than singing so we'll need to make sure we get the lyrics and flow right, and pronounce things correctly too." there was also a decent amount of english in the song and while rua obviously doesn't have a problem with it, she's not sure to what extent hyukjae's familiarity with the language is. "this song is very much about the vibes, huh," she muses then looks over at him. "can i hear you rapping again?"
when the announcement about the sudden debut evals spread, instead of immediately getting to work for her own preparation or at least, thinking of what songs to showcase, her mind wandered elsewhere first - or to be more specific, someone.
maybe it's not really surprising that rua found herself clicking with ahin so quickly; he was easy to talk to and just as easy to befriend-- although if she's being real, she couldn't tell you the exact details of how, when, and why they even met in the first place aside from the obvious (them both being lgc trainees for about the same amount of time). one day she had met ahin and the next thing she knows, they're friends.
so naturally, she thinks of ahin first upon hearing the news, and wonders if he's going to put his name in the ring. it'd be nice if they could work on their performances together too, or just to like, give each other advice or something but she'll leave that for when--or if--the opportunity arrives. first: message ahin.
( โ ) JUNG AHIN
โ so...
โ debut evals?
โ i saw one of the songs has to be in a second language tho
โ what are you going to do ๐๐ญ๐ญ
rua leaves the messages at that, a little smile apparent on her lips as she reads over the chat bubbles one last time and a laugh in her throat that she wants to let out, imagining what ahin's reaction was to one of the song requirements. she knew very well how he did not know any other languages so as amused as she was, rua was also a little worried - and was ready to offer her help if ahin wanted to do an english song.
with how many trainees legacy has, and the ever-revolving door of them it seems, rua doesn't make a habit of keeping up with every person she crosses paths with at some point unless they have some kind of connection where she can't forget them. there's never a guarantee how long--or short--someone might stay so rua doesn't know if she should try keeping relations with some people or not.
she does, however, hear about the ones who manage to debut and those are names she remembers (although, she thinks all of the trainees probably pay attention to them). similarly, it's hard to not hear about those who leave but often times, no one finds out why - which makes sense, but rua doesn't try snooping for info or rumours about it either anyways. it's not her business and probably has no bearing on her so she lets it be.
rua is only human though, and curiousity gets the better of her, so while she doesn't dig for details, she does raise a brow and wonder what happened when news spreads that junkyu had been added to v&a only to leave months after without further comment. they might not have been close friends or even regular friends, but she's talked to him here and there so she feels slightly more invested than usual.
unfortunately, she never got a chance to ask him directly since she didn't see him around the company even once after his departure, so rua honestly thought he had left completely - until she spots him at the very same ramen restaurant they had first met at. rua almost doesn't realize it's him at first because he just suddenly appeared in a place she wasn't expecting him at all but after doing a double take, she knows her eyes aren't mistaken especially after she catches the small smile he shows her (which she of course returns).
she so badly wants to talk to him, just to see how he's doing, but notices he hasn't finished his meal yet. while she's just about eaten the rest of her order, she thinks better of interrupting him and decides to wait until he's also done before approaching him-- so she sits in her seat, slowly sipping at her drink and sending glances his way every so often until she sees him getting up to leave. rua quickly downs the rest of her iced tea, having already paid for her meal, before following junkyu outside. it doesn't take her long to spot him since he seems to have apparently been waiting for her, which she appreciates.
approaching him with a smile she hopes he finds friendly, rua nods her head in greeting. "we keep meeting here unintentionally, huh?" she tries joking, not wanting to open up their interaction with something serious right away. "you were right that the ramen here is good; i keep coming back for it."
โi think our orders may have gotten mixed up.โ
It was rare for Seoha to order new items at any cafe that she frequents throughout her days here. While she was quite the adventurous woman who enjoyed spontaneous outings, something about trying new foods or drinks was still so hard for her.
Because once she found something she liked, she would outplay or eat it until she couldnโt anymore - that was Seoha's weird ick about herself. And out of all days, when she needed her tea the most, the employees got the orders mixed up. Now, call her crazy if you want, but Seoha knows exactly what her drink looks like. Itโs so customized; the color comes out the same every time. To see someone else walking away with it, as she is probably holding theirs, she couldnโt let a misunderstanding happen.
Not when she paid good money for that drink.
โI donโt mean to startle you,โ she smiled softly at someone she instantly recognized as @lgcrua. She pushed the black sunglasses on top of her head, causing a bit of her bangs to go up with them. โDo you think I can see the description of the drink? I am fairly certain the names are incorrect, but the order is correct... if that makes any sense?โ
as a frequent cafe customer (not just the one she's at today specifically but in general), rua has grown used to the whole routine of ordering, waiting, receiving that she doesn't really think much of it anymore. she's always trying new items too if something interests her or sounds appealing so admittedly, she's not always paying attention to the order written on her cup any time she's given one. she simply hears her name being called, grabs the drink and thanks the barista, before leaving.
today was supposed to be like that too-- until she notices someone speaking to her. rua turns her head to the other and recognition lights up in her eyes when she sees who it is, however she doesn't get a chance to say anything first because she soon hears why she was stopped. her mouth opens, forming an 'o' before she quickly looks down at the label on her cup and skims over it immediately.
while it does indeed say rua at the top, the order below it is not what she had gotten today since she had opted for one of her staples instead of something new or limited: a regular 'ol latte. (she didn't want to think too hard about her order so she just got a classic.)
"oh, this is definitely not mine," she says finally, laughing a bit out of surprise as she holds the drink out for the other to read the label of. "you were right! i'm sorry about that, i didn't even think to check even though it had my name on it. thankfully, i didn't drink from it yet but if you want a new one, i can buy it for you," she offers, smiling. even if it wasn't her fault the orders got mixed up, she still felt bad about the mix up happening at all.
LGC GIRLS SUMMER S2 สโฅษ SONG PREPARATIONS
เผ โธผ โธ โด rua begins to actually see herself on stage, debuting.
here's the thing about chae rua: while you could say she's well rounded in all areas, she also doesn't particularly excel in any one thing either - so what is she really good at? and conversely, what is she terrible at? maybe that's why she always feels so unsure about herself, like she doesn't know where she truly belongs, because she's worked so hard to try and be able to fit in anywhere she's needed.
yes, needed-- and she supposes that stems from her always catering to her mom's whims and requests; always following her words and carrying out what she says without question. from dancing to singing to rapping, rua wanted to be useful in any way she could be. her solution? to become a jack of all trades, even if that meant being a master of none.
so when she receives the songs for lgc girls summer and finds out which ones she's in, rua's both pleased and a bit worried about the variety in them and whether she can do well, but overall she's glad nothing seems super cute or wildly out of her comfort range.
if she had to pick which songs she gravitated towards the most, she'd go for 'meow' and 'sign', maybe even 'gnarly' because of how bold and different it was from all the other songs and she felt like it would be fun to challenge. for the most part, rua had no problems with the other songs either, but she did have her concerns about the more vocal heavy ones that asked for a bit more technical skill and wider range than what she was confident pulling off.
normally, it would be someone else's role who was more capable but since they all had to record each song its entirety, even rua had to sing the parts she wouldn't normally volunteer because she was more aware than anyone about her shortcomings and what she lacked - singing skillfully being one of them. she could probably handle most parts in a medium range but asking for falsettos or high notes and adlibs from her? she could only hope they'd just ask her to sing the base lyrics that they'd then overlay someone else's vocal tricks over.
other than that, she liked to believe she pulled off any rap parts pretty well and when it came to learning the choreography, thankfully her stronger skills are dance and putting on a good performance. more than anything though--all her concerns, her worries, her struggles to pull off what each song asks of her--the fact that she is even receiving original songs as a trainee is beyond exciting for her. while debut might still be a ways off, participating in and preparing for this project kind of felt like how she imagined debut prep to be, and had her thinking: maybe it wasn't impossible for her to make it that far, after all?
DEBUT EVALUATION สโฅษ PERFORMANCE
เผ โธผ โธ โด rua learns new things about herself.
part 1: secondary language performance
rua chose to perform the song 'square' by baek yerin (ref here!), which is in english, her second language. most of her performances to date have been in korean, so she wanted to demonstrate her performance ability in a language she wants to use more often.
part 2: company song challenge
for the company song challenge, rua decided to pick a song that would showcase her weakest skills โ singing and rapping. ultimately, she chose 'sheโs fineโ by youngim of blazing.
what kind of struggles did rua experience while preparing/filming the videos?
as a sort of 'jack of all trade, master of none,โ rua struggled with selecting the right songs to showcase her strengths, while also emphasizing the efforts sheโs put into improving on her weaknesses. sheโs used to singing cuter and more upbeat songs through her training, and had to spend a long time trying to decide whether she should stick with a genre sheโs โused toโ vs. a genre she thought might suit her better.
ruaโs voice is on the lower side, so singing higher-pitched songs is usually difficult for her. the songs she chose for both the secondary language performance and the company song challenge are songs that she personally likes and feels comfortable with, but also include significant parts that are higher and more challenging for her vocally.
the songs she chose are also different genre-wise from the songs sheโs typically performed, and considering she already has a lot of doubts about her commitment to becoming an idol (and personally believes she hasnโt made much improvement throughout her training period), she struggled initially with her confidence in performing songs in unique genres that emphasize her weaker or lesser-known skills.
what areas of the performances did rua feel confident in and why?
rua was confident in the lower-pitched portions of both of the songs she performed, and despite her initial nervousness, was happy with the end product, and the fact that she got to showcase a side of her that she doesnโt think sheโs been able to lean into as much. sheโs a lot more comfortable singing in lower octaves and personally prefers her vocal color when singing these types of songs.
by the time she was recording her performances, rua was confident in her actual performance โ her energy, her expressions, and her presence. she does have her doubts about her future as an idol, and whether sheโs capable of being one, but she also undeniably loves to perform. and sheโs confident that that aspect of her was definitely noticeable in her performances.
lessons learned for the future?
the process of preparing for and filming the performance videos involved a lot of self-doubt, both about her ability and about her compatibility with being an idol. but sheโs satisfied with the end product, and after reviewing her performances herself, she feels like she can be more confident about her skills as a performer going forward โ all she has to do is believe in herself and trust her gut.
she knows she likes to perform, but rua has struggled with wondering whether โlikingโ performing is enough to pursue a career out of it. this entire process, however, has made her realize just how much she actually loves performing. despite the difficulties and challenges leading up to the actual filming, the end product and the actual performances made everything worth it for rua. and she knows now that her interest in performance is something that sheโs passionate about.
DEBUT EVALUATION สโฅษ INTERVIEW
เผ โธผ โธ โด rua tries to be as honest as she can.
this is it, rua thinks.
finally, a chance to debut-- or at least, the first preparation steps to. this might very well be the sign she's been waiting for, to prove whether she truly belongs on this path or not. if she fails here then this might be all she can do - no pressure or anything.
but first: an interview (another one, her mind reminds, and if her thoughts could groan, they would have just now). rua had some hesitance towards interviews but mostly because she usually had to take an honest look at herself for them, and it was kind of difficult to talk about herself in terms of strengths, weaknesses, goals, and all that when she wasn't really sure about anything most days.
today was no different, of course, but a potential debut on the line was enough motivation for her to push through any apprehension.
what kind of group do you think youโd fit in best?
easy enough to answer, she thinks. "if i could choose... i'd say i see myself in a group that has a stronger or bold image over a softer, super feminine or girly group just because i find the former to be more comfortable for me to pull off," rua answers. "of course, there's nothing wrong with that kind of concept or image, i just don't think it fits me personally - but i'll always do my best in whatever is asked of me."
if you were assigned a position, what role would you naturally take โ vocals, dance, rap, or something else? and how would you feel if you didnโt get the position you had in mind?
"i don't think i have a particular position in mind honestly," rua admits, after thinking over the question for a bit. "if i had to choose, i would say i lean more towards rapping because of my voice tone but since i didn't want to be limited to just one role or position, i tried branching out and trying everything."
some would say that conversely, it means she's not extremely skilled in any one area so she doesn't specialize in anything but from rua's perspective, she wanted to increase her chances of being chosen for something even if that meant a leftover position. if a group was looking for a rapper but she had only focused on singing then she wouldn't be a top pick for it; she might not even be considered at all - but if she showed she could both rap and sing then they might see more value in her.
"so even if i don't get a rapper position, i wouldn't feel uncomfortable having to fill another role... i might not be amazing right away but i'll definitely work hard and practice a lot to do well in whatever position i have," she nods, hoping she sounds serious and flexible rather than desperate for anything. (although the latter wouldn't exactly be wrong.)
do you care how the public might perceive you after debut?
rua tilts her head, wondering what the intent behind the question is. isn't it natural for someone in the public eye to care how they're perceived? "hm... yes and no, i suppose," she settles on answering with. "obviously, i would like the public to think favourably of me because they might become fans if they become interested and if they don't then at least they'd become aware of me and hopefully, look at me in a positive light."
rua adds on further, "at the same time, not everyone will like you and while some people might have constructive criticism or advice that can help you, there's a lot more people who will just say anything to try and make you feel bad-- or for whatever reason they might have to be hateful. i think those kinds of people are ones you shouldn't care about since they've never had your interest or well-being in mind, and aren't worth your time."
"but those who kindly point out what you can improve on or what you did and didn't do well should be heard out because if they have that much to say and genuinely want to see you do better then that means they must have paid enough attention to you in the first place to notice all that."
whatโs your perception of the currently debuted groups in the company? what do you admire, question, or feel challenged by when it comes to each group?
"i think they're amazing, and doing so well as legacy's newest generation," rua begins by saying, hoping she sound sincere - because she is. it's not easy to debut in the first place, let alone doing well and achieving success in a short period, but lgc groups have pulled it off and more - which might also be in part thanks to the company's rep, but there's no doubt that the idols themselves are the putting in the work for their groups to do well. "but it's also honestly kind of intimidating because i would think seeing how great they are would make anyone wonder what the other trainees under the same company are like too, and would naturally have higher expectations for them--us--which is something i worry about."
"with fabula, they've really solidified themselves with a powerful and confident image, like the cool girls who look tough but are about loving yourself and lifting up others too.," she continues on. "i really appreciate that kind of message and live by a similar idea to that myself. each member has a something unique to them which you also see in their solos so i think it's cool that they can all do their own things but when they get together, they're just as powerful as one."
"crystallis are like the image of a sparkling girl group - like the kind of group you'd think of first when you hear 'k-pop girl group' which is impressive in of itself, considering how many active groups there are. they feel like a group who could last a long time in the industry and will evolve as their image matures, plus i appreciate that some of the members are around my age and they were still able to debut," rua admits sheepishly, and a bit apologetically for bringing up ages.
"as for nova... they're so cute," she almost gushes, only remembering where she is--and why she's even talking about this to begin with--at the last second. "they're kind of like your little sisters, i guess because they are the newest and youngest group in the company right now, but not in a doting kind of way? they're like the popular girls in your class that look cool but are still friendly... nova feel very current and on trend, which probably appeals to a lot of people interested in that, but still approachable which i think is cool because it's hard to find a balance like that."
"and of course, they all have great music," rua concludes with a laugh. "i have a lot of everyone's music on my regular playlists, and some i listen to when i'm in a certain mood. it's nice that the three groups have different and distinct sounds so there's something for everyone!"
rua can't stop herself from grinning when haeun joins her, finding this impromptu game fun, surprisingly. it was a nice change from the constant and routine lessons and workshops that normally filled up their days and weeks, while still practicing in a way. she might not be confident in guessing a lot of songs or remembering their dances, but she was enjoying herself and she has haeun to thank for that.
"right? me too," she agrees easily and quickly. 'the boys' in particular was a type of song that rua could see herself feel more comfortable performing as opposed to other certain concepts; honestly though, she could say that about a lot of blazing songs which is probably why if she had to choose her favourite lgc senior, it'd most likely be them. "let's do it! i think it'd be super helpful having you there since you're such a good dancer," she nods, smiling still.
as the song stops and changes to the next, rua pauses as well - only to realize she's not familiar with the new song playing. it definitely sounds like an older song (and she doesn't mean that in a shady way) but unfortunately, she can't recall the name or dance to it. haeun, on the other hand, springs to action immediately and rua watches her, impressed, and begins cheering her on again but this time, acting as if she's a fan (although she supposes she kind of is).
"since you were eight?!" rua repeats, surprised. what was she even doing at eight? "i don't even know who the group is," she admits, a bit sheepishly. it seems like there was still much for her to learn about idols despite her long-enough training period, which was both a humbling and sad thought.
she's about to agree with haeun again, the last thing she says catches rua off guard and she's not sure what to say. there's clearly something but rua wonders if it's her place to poke-- then again, if haeun didn't want her to know then she wouldn't have said it in front of her... right? maybe she should ask after.
just as she thinks this, the next song comes on and rua tilts her head. it was kind of funny how terrible she was at this game, apparently; she's only gotten 1 song right so far and while she recognized another, she couldn't identify it so she counted it as a half point for herself. now with this song, she feels lost again and looks over at haeun, assuming the other will probably know. "is it a boy group song?" she guesses, clearly not moving from her spot to show she has no idea what it is.
ah, haeun blushed. "i seem confident? i guess." it was still strange to feel confident about something... anything. the last year had been brutal. feeling anything aside from despair felt foreign to her. it was a welcomed change, however. "i really like this genre of music. ever since i was little. it's what got me dancing, so i guess i do know a lot."
she pressed play. the song that blasted through the speakers was familiar (wonder girls - nobody) but haeun couldn't remember the name. she did, however, remember the point dance. it takes a moment for muscle memory to kick in.
haeun faces rua as she does the point choreography: giving rua a playful wink when pointing at her. she laughs, feeling a little shy for her cheesiness. "oh wow! i haven't heard this since i was a kid."
the next song starts playing yet for the life of her she couldn't remember the dance. she turns to rua with a panicked expression. poor haeun wanted to show off and she was already stumped. "ooh, do you know it?"
rua lets out an impressed "ooh~" at haeun's answer, and nods understandingly. whenever rua talks to people like haeun, she's reminded of how many trainees started with already liking idols and dancing or singing from a young age, so it was natural for them to want a career in that too - usually as an idol. but she was someone who decided to try becoming an idol later in life, and kind of spur of the moment too; rua never planned or desired performing on a stage--although that was mostly because she really had no wants of her own for so long--so she feels somewhat like an imposter, like she doesn't really belong here.
now that she's doing this random dance challenge with haeun, she only feels it (and her potential lack of knowledge regarding the songs that might be played) more. it almost gets her down but she tells herself to shake it off for the time being, because she needs to focus on what's in front of her and not be stuck in her thoughts or she'd really make a fool of herself.
the song plays and it instantly feels familiar to rua. just as she's trying to comb through her memory of the song name and artist, haeun starts dancing and seeing it makes everything click inside of rua's head. "oh!" she perks up, and cheers on the other's performance with a laugh, then claps. "nobody! i remember hearing this so often before!" however, despite how simple the dance seemed though, rua couldn't remember it at all in the moment.
then, the next song starts playing, and rua bops her head along to it in the beginning, before the answer finally hits her. "the boys! blazing!" rua calls out, immediately performing the point choreography she had learned before, thankful to her past self for studying up on lgc senior songs specifically. "this song was so popular that even when i wasn't paying attention to idols, i heard it a lot," she explains, chuckling.
"what's next?" she wonders, just as the next song begins.
"it's a random dance playlist," haeun explains as she goes to the laptop in the practise room to type in what she was looking for. the video is at the top of the search, perfect. "but it's of older songs. like second generation kpop songs! it's a great challenge."
most random dances were quick: only displaying a couple seconds of the song before switching to the next. the difference with this video was the way that it played the entire highlight choreography before switching. haeun preferred this style of random play.
"do you think you know a lot of older songs? let's see. bonus points if you can guess the name of the song as well as dance to it." haeun considered herself a bit of a retro connoisseur. she knew many of their senior dances. a lot of them were simpler, with a catchy dance move that made memorising them a breeze. haeun has been a fan of kpop since she was a young child. "if you beat me i'll buy you a drink from the vending machine."
in her time since joining legacy, rua has had plenty of time to acquaint herself with many idol songs, both current and past, but to say she was very familiar with a lot of them? well... she's not sure how she ended up here, agreeing to trying out this random dance playlist. at some point, she probably reasoned with herself that it'd be good to test her knowledge and dance ability since stuff like this would no doubt show up on shows and other content if she ever got to debut-- but she wasn't feeling particularly confident in her success.
still, now that she was here, she might as well give it a shot. at least if it's older songs, she's probably heard them before and if they were popular or big enough, rua's pretty sure she'd know the point choreography from them at the very least (she hopes). so she bites down on her lip for a moment, contemplating her answer, before nodding. "i think once i hear a song, i would remember it," she replies before smiling playfully. "you seem pretty confident though? you must know a lot."
truthfully, rua wasn't sure how much haeun knew but if she was the one the propose this idea then she probably does. while some may feel threatened or competitive by that, rua was actually anticipating seeing how much haeun knew - maybe she'd learn something new from this too. "okay, let's see then!" she says finally, standing up from where she was sitting cross-legged on the floor and stretching out her arms and legs one more time.

LGC GIRLS SUMMER S2 สโฅษ APRIL INTERVIEW
เผ โธผ โธ โด whatโs something that rua wants to do in seoul at night?
once the lgc girls summer project started, it quickly got into full swing - learn the songs (all five of them), practice until perfect, record and film, then repeat four more times. rua supposes this is what preparing for a debut or comeback must be like (although she's sure groups are usually given more time to do it all), and it honestly kind of excites her. this is probably the closest she's ever felt to what it's like to debut, considering trainees don't just get original songs for themselves every day.
for once, her head doesn't feel as hazy as usual and her days don't seem so unsure like when she normally goes about the regular training schedule. it's a nice change, one rua welcomes because it's finally something new even if it means increased work in a more condensed period of time; perhaps she was even a bit thankful for this.
was she more of a workaholic than she thought?
rua shakes her head as she sits down for the meeting she's been called into. she's not worried about it this time though, since she knew every other person in lgc girls summer was having one too.
the question they ask is not surprising considering the theme of this season but it does make rua pause for a bit. maybe people would assume she's a partier or a frequent night out-er but in reality, rua is more of a homebody than one might expect. sure, she likes going out and hanging out with friends as much as the next person, and there are some occasions where she has... let loose (she almost shivers recalling her boarding school days) but for the most part she is perfectly content at home--or more accurately, the dorms--just chilling in her room or something.
she wonders if that's the kind of answer she should give though, since she is in the party unit-- but she also doesn't want to particularly lie or talk about what she may or may not have done in the past when she was younger.
so she smiles, nods her head once, and answers.
"i think it would be cool to go to an amusement park at night! or some kind of festival like for music or food, where there's a bunch of lights surrounding you and you can just have fun doing what you like. with amusement parks specifically, they usually aren't open past a certain time so i've always wanted to visit one past operating hours when you'd get the park to yourself - with permission, of course," she adds on with a laugh, careful to not unintentionally admit or confess to wanting to break laws or something.
"but for something more reasonable... i think there's also a charm to taking a walk at night, like through a park or at han river or something-- and you have to grab a snack or some ramen at a convenience store nearby too for the complete package!"
