Here’s why I still can’t 'hate' the Diaz parents - not even as fictional characters

Watching s8×e12 ‘Disconnected’ right now: and oh man, that kitchen talk between Ramon and Eddie? Makes it hard for me not see rl family dynamics. And to not think that the show failed Ramon here (unnecessarily).

It’s when Ramon says, “You don’t need to buy his love, Eddie. You already have it” Along with the rest, that’s pretty much what Eddie needed to hear. So for me, that was the signal that Ramon was acting as the mediator here, trying make it easier for all sides & to find common ground.

Let’s be clear: that rarely ends well when it goes on for too long. And yet, even irl, there will always be situations where we try just that. Even though it’s not an ideal solution. Even though no one acts at their best.

It is likely that Helena at least made the suggestion and that it wasn’t all Chris’s idea. Still, it would make sense that (when it started) they just didn’t want to "argue" with him. To prevent Chris from closing off even more. That’s also why it was ‘right’ that Eddie let him go.

Eddie’s parents, especially his mum, still believe they have to protect Chris. But they don’t realise that all they’re doing by now is replaying their relationship with Eddie. Trying to do better, yet just making things worse.

Long story short: after that scene, I thought that Ramon knew that. And that’s what actually frustrates me about this whole Kim-TX-feverdream.

Because that heads up in the kitchen? Would’ve been consistent with what happened earlier. That Ramon’s the one who actually realises, that he wasn’t the type of parent he always wanted to be. That he hurt Eddie and wanted to do better in future.

What happened at the chess tournament, tho? To me, that seemed more like Helena’s 'style'. My point is: This BS was mainly frustrating because, from my POV, it (on a few key points) just didn’t fit the characters at all. (huff) 😒😅

Water is way more hydrating than soda, but soda is more hydrating than nothing. A balanced meal is way more nutritious than ice cream, but ice cream is more nutritious than nothing.

Something is better than nothing. Some hydration is better than no hydration. Some nutrients are better than no nutrients. Some produce is better than no produce.

Don't let societally imposed food guilt trick you into believing that nothing is a better choice. Nourishing your body, however you can, is always the better choice. Fed is best. Always.

9-1-1 Season 8 First (again) Watch

s8e8 “Wannabes“: Okay, let‘s be real for a sec - the way Eddie acts about this whole home.com thing? That‘s exactly how I‘d try to hide that stuff from family. Or partners, in this case. Not saying this is the rule for everyone, still I think we can establish here that this is one of the most obvious parallels to 9-1-1 canon couples. (no matter if you ship them or not)

Reminds me a lot of how Chimney tried to hide the ring (yeah, I know) from Maddie in season 6 (lol)

"it is what it is" but 10 times more german. Ich geh mich jetzt den Umständen ersprechend aus dem Fenster werfen

Me: Constantly ranting about tech firms establishing Chatti and similar chatbots as health advisors (for obvious reasons).

Also me: Sitting in the bathroom this morning, like on autopilot, and uploading a photo of my calf so that Chatti can put together a checklist for me to see if what’s there might actually be blood clots after all.

Because, unlike so often in these moments, I don't want to spam my friends and family and send us all straight into ‘panic mode’.

I know, it’s not healthy to dwell on this rn, and those moments aren’t what the genrral criticism is about. But damn, they’re still part of it. And I really need to stop this urgently…

Long story short: remember that sometimes we (have to) criticise ourselves too. Without being too harsh.
