I’m moving Fenris to a sideblog for several reason. He’s my first darp muse and I’m not quite ready to give him up and I’m hoping if he’s a side blog to one of my more popular blogs, I might actually do more threads with him.
So if you follow, and get a follow back from leoforits, that’s me~
“Perhaps-” She smiles fondly. “,but someone needs to make sure she doesn’t stare at that stupid mirror-thingy all day. Besides, she brings me flowers.”
Using a worn rag Kivari carefully moves the pan from the fire and sets it by the bread, resting the hot iron on a layer of cloth. “Thank you kindly.” She hums, taking the loaf from the basket to be cut. She glances to the wine, biting her lip. It was just one bottle, not really enough to get her truly drunk. But it was no less a can of worms if she wasn’t careful.
“Just make sure to take home whatever’s left. I’ll get the glasses.” Besides, she trusted Fenris to decide what was enough if she couldn’t. He had been forward enough the first time that much was certain.
Setting aside the loaf for a moment the elf moves to the cupboard, standing on her toes to reach what few wine glasses she kept. For guests more so than herself. Which is perhaps why they are so stubbornly out of reach. Kivari sighs after a brief struggle, falling onto the balls of her feet.
“How the hell did I get those up the first time? Tch.” The brief thought that maybe Fenris had occurs to her though she doesn’t mention it. It brought her a lot of shame to think of all the things she couldn’t remember doing (or not doing) while under such frequent intoxication. No one’s fault but her own, she understood.
“Could you go ahead and reach those?”
He had heard from Varric that Merrill seemed to have become rather enthralled by the mirror she had brought back with her. It didn’t bode well at all and if Fenris had any say in the matter, he would have destroyed that thing the moment they found it in her home.
No good can come from something like that.
But he is not here to talk about Merrill and her strange mirror. Or anyone else for that matter.
Fenris catches her look at the bottle, brow arched for a moment. Perhaps it would have been better not to bring it at all. He knows very well the problems she has had in the past. It would be okay. He’d make sure of it.
The glasses are a mystery to him as well. The elf doesn’t recall her putting them so high up, just out of reach. How had she done that? He is there to help in an instant though, standing perhaps a little closer than necessary as Fenris reaches up, gloved fingers just managed to grasp what they need before he offers them to Kivari.
”Perhaps you should find a new home for these, if that is too high for you.” Maybe they were out of reach for a reason, though.

“– So you’re one of the Champion’s former companions, are you not? The one from Tevinter.”
He could deny it, butit’s rather difficult to mistake him for someone else. The elf frowns, wary as he watches her. “That depends on who asks.”

“I suppose I’ll have to work on my methods of persuasion,” Anders replies, reaching down to grab the stick he’d been using to stoke the flames. He prods the logs around a bit, before glancing in Fenris’ direction at the sound of him setting his sword down - he doesn’t even have to say anything, as the elf has already taken up another log from their paltry collection. He moves aside enough for him to throw it onto the fire, sending up a flurry of embers. He sets the stick aside after nudging it around until it’s in a better position to catch flame.
“Now why would I do a thing like that? I’d hate to lose such a sunny presence as yourself,” Anders said, giving Fenris a thin smile. “Contrary to what you believe, I have no desire to kill you.”
His gaze settles upon the fire for a moment, watching the flames lick at the new log placed in its clutches. It cracks and pops, burning up rather nicely once the fire catches and Fenris sits up straight, hands clasped in his lap.
”I can be perfectly amicable, in the right company.” Evidently, that was not Anders company. Not that anyone is surprised by this.
It’s not as if Fenris had any real desire to kill the mage, either, if only because he had yet to cause him harm, if he ever even meant to. Ander was not as easy to read as Fenris would have liked.

A steady thwick echoed against a wood cutting board accompanied by the soft sizzle of meat against an iron skillet. Kivari had been lucky to get such good rabbit from that travelling hunter, especially considering they were actual rabbits. Though it was a bit of a butcher’s job skinning it she got it done eventually. In her excitement she invited Fenris to share the meal with and even bought additional spices in preparation. With the coin from all the recent mercenary work it wasn’t much a problem, usually it was a matter of finding a merchant in Hightown willing to sell to a “knife ear”.
Sliding the last bit of vegetables into the skillet Kivari wiped her hands on a rag and sighed contentedly, admiring her progress. A sharp rap against the door brought the elf’s attention away from the hearth. A nervous flutter danced in her stomach, something beyond a hunger for food.
"Come on it, it’s unlocked!” She called, pushing at the food more so to busy her hands than prevent burning. “Hey. ‘Bout time you popped up, here I was getting half a mind to go eat with Merrill.”
Kivari glanced towards her guest with a smile, lips quirking higher to one side as was usual. She was only giving him a hard time. Just a few well meaning pokes. “Food should be done soon. Did’ya bring the bread?”
Cooking is not a skill he posses. At least, it is not something he can do well, so when Kivari offers, Fenris is quick to accept. To pass up a free meal would be foolish. He won’t deny it gives him an excuse to spend more time in her company, either.
For a moment, he stands outside her door, as he has done so many times before. But never so hesitantly and it is something he fails to understand in the moment. This is nothing more than two friends sharing a meal and yet the elf feels anxious, more so than he has felt in a long time.
When he does knock, she is quick to answer and with a heavy sigh, he opens the door, basket in hand. “Surely you could find better company than Merrill.” His lack of affection for the blood mage has never been a secret, always quick to berate her for something foolish.
”I did. There is wine, too.” He sets the basket down on the table, glancing at her for a moment. Fenris had been unsure whether to bring it, given Kivari’s vice. One bottle could do no harm though, right?
Anders hazards a snort of laughter at Fenris’ comment, though the sound quickly dies off - for all of the hateful exchanges he’s had with both Merrill and Fenris, he doesn’t find much joy in laughing at either of their expenses as of late. The Dalish mage had been borderline distraught over the misfire, and despite the fact that her mistake had wielded a reliable source of meat, he doesn’t derive any pleasure from making fun of her for it.
He casts Fenris a look, however - the miserable cold makes him want to snap at his questioning, but he has to bite down the urge. They’re all cold, and they’re all more than a little miserable. He might as well reign it in until they’ve made it to warmer parts.
“It’s safe, I promise. We’ve come too far for me to poison you now,” he replies, giving the elf a crooked grin. “Try not to give me a reason, at any rate.”
”If that was an attempt to reassure me, you failed, mage.” He’ll still eat it. Fenris doubts Anders would really go so far as to poison him with some ill made broth and certainly not in front of Hawke. Perhaps he could be a little less harsh. Anders doesn’t have to sit there and make them food, after all.
The elf sets aside his sword for a moment in favour of throwing another log on the fire, though it does little against the cold. He barely likes Kirkwalls usual lack of heat, but this? This he cannot stand.
Was a little sunshine too much to ask for?
”I;m sure you would find a reason whether I give you one or not.”
“Well I’m sure you’ll be close by to haul me out of any trouble I manage to dig myself into, yeah?” There was a tinge of hope in her voice, one that she hadn’t intended but felt none the less. Blue eyes glance up towards her taller companion, unsure what she searched for in those olive eyes of his yet still hoping for something. She glances away before giving herself a chance to know, unsure what answer she wanted if there was to be one.
“Injuries and our ill-preparation aside, this could have been worse.” Kivari states with a surprisingly positive note even as she shifts with a stifled hiss of pain. “We should do it again sometime. Hopefully with a little less injury and a little more elfroot.”
He huffs ever so slightly, glancing at her. “For now, yes. Someone must make sure you do not get yourself killed.” If it had to be him, so be it. It was something to do while the elf waited for Danarius, though he would be lying if Fenris claimed that was the only reason he lingered in Kirkwall and that it had nothing to do with the elf by his side.
”If by worse, you mean we could be dead, then yes, I think we were lucky.” He’s still not entirely sure how they had managed to get out of this one without coming to more harm. And she did this alone? Not anymore. Not if Fenris had a say in the matter. It was far too dangerous.
He doesn’t like having to worry about someone.

”I will not let that abomination use his foul magic on me, Hawke.”

“Pft, no beer a better option,” Iona said with a laugh, “That’s funny. And don’t worry about it. A good drink and a safe place to have it are important things to find no matter where you are. Besides, it seems a decent place to at least start to get to know eachother,” Iona said, drinking some of hers, “I mean, I live in a shack in the bad part of town with my annoying brother, creepy uncle, demanding yet nice mother and my dog. Your house is full of corpses and broken things. This seemed good common ground.”
”Yes, because corpses and family are the same thing.” He’s clearing disapproving of the way she dismisses something most people would give anything to have. Family is not something one should take likely. “An annoying brother and demanding mother are better than nothing, Hawke. You should not brush them off so easily.”

Well, one cannot be faulted for that, can they? Everyone likes to pretend when they are children. It is what makes them just that. The elf shifts on the spot, clearly uncomfortable as he pulls his gaze away. “--.... I was a slave. These markings are a gift from my master.” He spits the work, his disdain for the entire thing evident in his voice.
Zeit had noticed the stranger’s weakened state and was impressed with the strength he possessed. Surely it could not hurt to thank him; but without actually doing it, of course. He couldn’t let anyone know that he was wanted by the templars. He had to remain discreet and hidden for as long as he could; but he did not enjoy to see the elf so worn out – especially after the fight – and figured he could repay him by handing over a healing potion. That is; if he accepted it.
Zeit placed the staff behind his back and slowly revealed himself from the hiding place. Sunlight hit his pale optics; causing the youngster to squint as he carefully headed towards the other.
“I saw what happened. Are you injured?”
He could get kept going for another few days if he had managed to avoid the fight. Now though, the elf may have to backtrack to the Inn he had just stopped at to heal up and all that was going to do was hinder his progress. The elf is pulled from such thoughts when movement catches his attention and he stands tense, weapon still in hand as Fenris turns to face who addresses him.
His enemies slowness seemed to make sense now. There had been someone else hiding in the brush. A mage no less, judging from the staff he spies. Fenris keeps his distance for now, ever wary of those who wield the powers of the Fade. “It’s nothing I cannot handle myself.” Once he finds somewhere to restock his supplies, anyway.
Kivari laughs softly, rubbing her nose with the fluff of the blanket. “I think to think I get a good one every now and again.”
Though there was still a persistent chill it was considerably more bearable. They would have to think of something. Kivari was used to the cold having grown up in Ferelden but this was just ridiculous.
“I could call my dad and ask him to take a look at it. I’d have to pay for the bit to get him up here but it’ll be cheaper than calling an actual repair man.” Cyrion would probably do a better job anyhow. Besides, it never hurt to see her family. Maker knows how much she missed them.
“Anyways, after work tomorrow I’ll look online to see if anyone needs any oddjobs done. I may have to end up getting a second job all together.” She couldn’t stand how utterly broke they always were. Here Kivari thought those cold days huddling for warmth ended when she left home.
Fenris pulls at the blankets for a moment, giving a curt nod. “You could, if you like. If he is coming to fix it, I’ll help you pay to get him here.” It wouldn’t be so harsh on their funds if they both chipped in.
Something needed to change. It was ridiculous, living like this. He couldn’t ask Danarius for any more money. He wouldn’t want to even if they actually got along. The man always wanted something in return and it was always something Fenris didn’t want to do.
”I think I may have to do the same thing. We can start looking tomorrow.” A second job may only exhaust them, but at least they might actually be able to afford to keep a roof over their heads for another month.
Kivari grits her teeth more so out of irritation than pain. Since when did she get so careless? At least she could be grateful that the leg that got injured already had a limp. Count what victories one got, right? Surely Anders could fix whatever new damage was done anyways.
“Heh. I can’t imagine that’s much gonna work out.” Kivari was already bad at just staying in one place yet alone off her feet completely. “Yeah, this is good.”
Guilt stirred in her as most of her weight pressed against Fenris. He was strong, that Kivari didn’t doubt, but the fight had taken much out of both of them. “For what it’s worth I am sorry about this.” She speaks softly after a prolonged pause.
“I didn’t think they’d be so damned organized.”
”You will only make it worse if you decide to go running off and do something like this again.” Still, he knows she probably won’t listen. He wouldn’t, after all. Sitting around in one place for too long is bound to drive anyone crazy, even those who are not used to constantly being on the run, moving from place to place.
The elf remains silent as they walk, snow white locks falling over his eyes for a moment as he purses his lips. A sigh soon escapes him and Fenris gives a gentle shake of his head. “It is not your fault, Kivari. I think next time we should prepare a little better, though.” Perhaps they could ask Hawke, or one of the others to come along as well.
