Libraries with a sense of humour.
queer superheroes is such a good genre… intense, actiony books like Dreadnought with a trans lesbian protagonist…. lighter, fun books like Not Your Sidekick with a bi protagonist and wlw romance….. non-YA sexy books like Cinnamon Blade with a bi protag and a love interest who’s still figuring out her labels……. all very good and very iconic
Danny Tozer has a problem: she just inherited the powers of Dreadnought, the world’s greatest superhero. Until Dreadnought fell out of the sky and died right in front of her, Danny was trying to keep people from finding out she’s transgender. But before he expired, Dreadnought passed his mantle to her, and those secondhand superpowers transformed Danny’s body into what she’s always thought it should be. Now there’s no hiding that she’s a girl. It should be the happiest time of her life, but Danny’s first weeks finally living in a body that fits her are more difficult and complicated than she could have imagined. Between her father’s dangerous obsession with “curing” her girlhood, her best friend suddenly acting like he’s entitled to date her, and her fellow superheroes arguing over her place in their ranks, Danny feels like she’s in over her head. She doesn’t have much time to adjust. Dreadnought’s murderer—a cyborg named Utopia—still haunts the streets of New Port City, threatening destruction. If Danny can’t sort through the confusion of coming out, master her powers, and stop Utopia in time, humanity faces extinction
Dreadnought by April Daniels
Welcome to Andover… where superpowers are common, but internships are complicated. Just ask high school nobody, Jessica Tran. Despite her heroic lineage, Jess is resigned to a life without superpowers and is merely looking to beef-up her college applications when she stumbles upon the perfect (paid!) internship—only it turns out to be for the town’s most heinous supervillain. On the upside, she gets to work with her longtime secret crush, Abby, who Jess thinks may have a secret of her own. Then there’s the budding attraction to her fellow intern, the mysterious “M,” who never seems to be in the same place as Abby. But what starts as a fun way to spite her superhero parents takes a sudden and dangerous turn when she uncovers a plot larger than heroes and villains altogether.
Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee
Every time Cinnamon Blade, crime fighter making up for a bad past, rescues the sweet and nerdy Soledad Castillo from bad guys, the two women’s chemistry grows stronger. Now that she’s finally asked Soledad out, sparks fly – but is a normal date even possible in a city threatened by aliens and vampires on a regular basis? High-heat f/f romance starring a bi Jewish superheroine!

Day 7 - A Book That Made You Smile
Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
I watched the movie long before I ever read the book. In fact, I watched the movie probably two or three times before I learned it was even based off a book. And this year, I finally decided to listen to the audiobook.
It did not disappoint.
The characters are both similar and their own unique beings from one medium to another, and I’m not gonna say one version was better than the other because I love them both so, so much.
What I will say is that if you like your Sophie’s tough, grumpy, and accidentally doing a ton of (occasionally spiteful) magic, book Sophie is the one for you. I enjoyed the book so much I listened to the rest of the series, too.
Have I mentioned yet that I love audiobooks? I can do all kinds of crafts (or even yoga!) while listening to them. I love things that help me multi-task. Audiobooks are glorious.

you know what? go to your local library.
nobody cares if you just want to read Twitter with the free wifi. in fact we’re ecstatic you’re there.
don’t be afraid to touch the books. hell, taking them off the shelf and leaving them on shelving carts is one of the main ways the library counts usage and foot traffic, so don’t reshelve them yourself and don’t be afraid of looking at them!
most libraries now allow covered drinks, and many have special areas where you’re allowed to bring something to eat. have your lunch there, it’s quiet!
lovely large tables for crafts or art? they have you covered!
magazines and periodicals so you can read the newest events or pick up a new recipe? check!
you can even just watch a DVD if you have the appropriate portable screen and courtesy headphones.
GO to the library. LOVE the library. USE the library. you already paid for it!!
