Hey everybody! I'm a pro battler, currently on break and at home!
I tend to go by a lot of different names for personal reasons, but you can call me Laser! If we include my break, I've been battling for TWENTY-ONE YEARS THIS YEAR (wow!) but honestly I've been around trainers and battle-trained 'mon my entire life.
I'd love to connect with people here, whether for battling tips, advice for pokemon in the home, or anything else!
I have/had a LOT of pokemon (I ended up opening a preserve/ranch with my S/O with our prize money for the pokemon that didn't want to be released into the wild or become a housepet at the end of our journeys, so please rest at ease that everybody is being taken care of!) so I can answer questions about most any types.
I'm Hoenn native, and my Blaziken is my best friend. I've taken the gym challenge in: Hoenn, Sinnoh, Johto, Kanto, and Unova, so that's where my knowledge lies. I'm not very familiar with fairy types, sorry!
At home, feel free to ask about any of my 'mon! I've got a bunch, so don't feel shy about asking!
And now I have Sponge Cake the Feebas as a non battling mon (atm!) I'll see if he wants to evolve and maybe enter him in battles or contests, but it's definitely too early to force him into anything.
Newest Ranch Arrivals:

((ooc stuff under the cut!))
(If any of my backstory doesn't fit your blog's canon, I am A-OK with saying that we somehow connected internets through a spatial rift!)
I am totally and fully okay with 'is the picture cute?' style blogs interacting! In fact, I encourage it!
I have memory issues, so I apologize if I don't recognize your blog or remember where you are in your storyline
I am slightly less likely to interact with blogs containing canon characters from Gen V or before, mostly bc I don't know what to say haha. Feel free to interact first tho!
The games that are canon to Laser's life are Ruby, Platinum, SoulSilver, and Black! I'm definitely counting other games as having 'happened' but Laser did not live through them, and only sort of knows what went down.
Laser has defeated the Elite 4 in those games, but takes pains to disguise itself in each new region it takes the challenge in, to avoid too much publicity. However, after beating the league, it doesn't care to maintain the disguise, leading to being kind of a famous cryptid type character.
Because of this, it will be cagey about its life, but may let things slip accidentally!
As a side note, I want to play the emotional ramifications of the events of those games somewhat seriously! Laser was in therapy for a good long while, both because of said events and also a tragedy that occurred at some point which it was struggling to cope with.
I don't wanna expound too much on its backstory yet, but I will keep record of anything discovered here for ease of access to newcomers! Feel free to poke a bit at it, but please keep in mind it will react like a real person!
pelipper mail is off while Laser is traveling, but on while at home, magic anons are always off, but musharna mail? I think is crazy funny so that is ON. Mystery gift is tentatively on, will make a concrete decision once I catch the vibe better. Union Circle is sooooo on!

Hi! I was wondering how much you knew about fire types? A couple months ago my Arcanine passed away (rest in peace Kazoo, I miss you so much). So now I'm looking into getting another fire type pokemon. I'm a blacksmith by trade, and a fire type that can get my forge up to the temps I need is incredibly useful to have!
This time around Id like to have a pokemon a bit smaller than a full grown Arcanine. Kazoo was originally on a competitive team that needed to be retired early due to an injury. Had I been her first trainer I probably would have kept her as a Growlithe.
All the fire types Ive looked at were all either, (1) MASSIVE, (2) Don't get hot enough for what I need (about 1500-2300°F), or (3) are generally unsuited to living in a home. At the end of the day my pokemon should be my friend! Not just a firestarter.
Do you have any ideas on what pokemon I should get?
flareon is probably your best bet. although their internal temperature doesn't quite meet what you need, they're able to use fire type energy to produce flames of up to 3000°f. a well-trained flareon can manipulate the temperature to be anywhere from about 1000°f to that max of 3000°.
a couple things to note with flareon, though. it's important you really research your breeder to make sure you get a pokemon that can meet your work needs. i wouldn't pick up an eevee or flareon from a shelter for this. poorly-managed breeding has resulted in an uptick of flame sac disorders upon evolution into flareon, and a flareon with this issue shouldn't be made to produce high-temp flames on the regular. most of the flareon that get surrendered to shelters were intended to be battling pokemon until their trainers found they couldn't keep up with the physical demands. flareon also need a higher ambient temperature than arcanine. while an arcanine can comfortably live at room temperature, flareon prefer an evironment that's at least 85°F. you'll need to make sure you can provide spaces that reach that temp for when your flareon is relaxing.
Hello, professor. What do you think of fossil pokemon being regenerated?
As a biologist: I don't like it. Most fossil pokemon went extinct because they couldn't keep up with the changing Earth and bringing them back isn't going to fix that. Researchers keep releasing them in the wild, which is how we have the whole dinosaur problem in the Crown Tundra. The pokemon they hunt have no defenses against them because they never had to deal with threats like that. Not to mention they might have pokemon hunting them that they won't have any defenses for. They'll just die out.
As me? Super fun and exciting. I love history and seeing walking fossils brings me a lot of joy. If we DO revive them though, DO NOT RELEASE THEM! KEEP THEM IN CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENTS FOR TRAINERS OR FOR STUDY ONLY!!
I don’t think people realize how common it is for Trainers to release wild-caught Pokémon that aren’t a good fit for them. I’ve seen some posts here and there of people shaming Trainers for it, treating them like the scum of the earth. Trainers releasing a Pokémon that doesn’t have battle potential is not the same as abandoning it in the middle of nowhere. The Pokémon is released back into its original habitat. Since the Pokémon was wild-caught to begin with and not raised by hand, it still knows how to survive and fend for itself. Its instincts are still intact. Most of the time the Pokemon is released not too long after it was caught, and therefore hasn’t bonded to its Trainer yet. These Pokémon have no problem readjusting to the wild again.
The truth is that this is just a normal part of being a Trainer. You can’t guarantee that a wild-caught Pokémon is going to be a good battler. Some of them don’t have the right temperament for it. Some don’t have a strong battle drive. Others are adverse to battling completely. I would argue it’s more cruel to try to use a Pokémon like that for battling and cause them significant stress than it is to release them back into the wild.
i understand that many of you come from a place of good intentions but sending someone with two type handling certifications and working on her third a message asking her if she "tried using food" to convince a pokemon comes off as more than a little condescending
The general problem with Absol, I am learning, is that while they can predict something dangerous may happen and possibly even where, they don't often know what that thing is or often how to convey that information well. I can only imagine that this is the source of the strained history between that species and our own, both historically in in many areas still.
All that too say that a coworker's absol today alerted to warn about what we believe to have been glassware too close to the side of a table that may have been broken by a nearby researcher. However, the alert caused the same researcher to drop the glassware in their hand. Truly a net zero interaction.
