Fics I've read this month I really enjoyed

There's a bunch of different fandoms here, some of them I'm in, some of them not. But they're all fics I lowk thought was beyond amazing.

All completed of course.

Seven days of alien summer - Goshen(applecrumbledore) = SOUTHPARK A bunch of teens keep getting kidnapped by aliens every night for an experiment. It takes them a lot of arguing and self-reflecting to realize why exactly they were chosen for the experiment.

This fic was...my first impression of Southpark actually uh I watched like multiple seasons after reading this. At first thought I thought it was chaotic and the show itself taught me that the fics don't even scratch the realm of chaos that they have brought. But anyway the fic...was actually super cute if you ask me. Very love letter vibes. Middle school me would have held it even closer to their heart and I like that because these kids are of similar ages. Maybe because I was reading this in a mall at an afternoon but the way the internalized homophobia was written gave me chills (in a good way). I think that scene is something I will remember during the most mundane moments of my life.

Annus Mirabilis - Ren = HARRY POTTER An argument in McGonagall's office leads to Harry and Draco getting trapped during the founding days of Hogwarts. Now they must begrudgingly work together to find out a way out of the place.

I am not deeply in the HP fandom but you best believe all the good writers go there. There are multiple works of just Drarry that had me gagged, but this one is a personal favorite. The banter? Perfect. The humor? Unmatched. The enemies to lovers? You gotta learn from these guys. They know enemies to lovers.

You said Please - arivergrowsintheeast = WEDNESDAY Eugene tries to list multiple reasons as to why he would never fall for Pugsley but unwittingly narrates a love story instead.

A relatively new fandom, and fics are still pouring out on the daily here, but I've reread this multiple times within the month itself so I decided to put this here. The unconventional format is interesting and it plays into the story so well. I love the analogies used to describe their relationship and Eugene's slow descent into acceptance and love. On an interesting note the author had not even watched Wednesday when they wrote this - that is pretty clear because the references are made are shallow ones you'd see in fics and edits BUT the fact that they managed to grab the essence of Eugsley's dynamic so beautiful and realistically deserves a lot of credit and kudos.

like an open book - skeilig = IT After surviving the deadlights Richie ends up with a side effect of being able to read Eddie's mind.

Every few years I remember my experience with IT and go back to coping through fanfiction. I don't really like ones with accidental/non-con(?) mind reading because that opens up so much vulnerability and second hand embarrassment but this one so genuinely so well done. Richie's empathy and adoration was perfectly depicted along with the inner humor he just can't help but have. And Eddie's self depreciation and constant crisis was also SO well shown at some point I wanted to step into that fic and give him a hug myself. So yes, great read. I love it when tropes I would normally dislike are done so well that it has me making exceptions.

So Says the Shapeshifter - foxflowering = HEAVEN'S OFFICIAL BLESSING Qi Rong ends up captured by Lang Qianqiu and spends some time in his vicinity, learning absolutely nothing. No way.

It might sound sexual but honestly the raw emotion I felt as I read this. I never disliked Qi Rong really, but this fic really struck home for me and now I like Qi Rong a little bit more than before I read this fic. Both characters are people who have done bad things and have had bad things happen to them, there are people to blame, and nobody is wrong in this scenario. What happens when you include empathy and pity into such a scenario? You end up with the fuckery of emotions I felt when I read this. Truthfully I don't even remember the ending that well anymore because by the end I felt so mentally fucked out but the prose is absolutely beautiful.

Haikyuu Fantasy AU Headcanons!!

Funeral home employee Matsukawa who ends up being haunted by a ghost and runs into Exorcist Hanamaki who seems like a quack but is pretty reliable

Nishinoya who's an overly excitable wizard and is always getting hurt.

He keeps on having to make trips to the kind and gentle healer, Asahi, who always fusses over him (to his secret enjoyment)

I have always wondered how Niragi was before Borderland. Because we know he is a Game Engineer. He also looks pretty chill and normal in that last scene in the plaza with the others. Just a random guy chilling under the sun in a pretty day.

And I wonder... Was he so much feral and sadistic because he ended up in Borderlands and he thought "well, this is the end, we are all gonna die in a terrible way" and decided that he could just get a revenge from the universe for what his life was during all his childhood and teen years in his twisted way?

Would he be the same in a normal context? I am not so sure about it. He is incredibly smart, quick at thinking and he has a good job that pays him well. He is extremely lonely though, from what he said.

Sure as fuck he is super shitty in the Borderlands, because there is only despair there, but I would love to see him in his everyday life. His high school life was hell. He striked me as someone very lonely, shy, the classic smart but ignored one. And I think his childhood wasn't better. Probably his parents were shitty too. He looks neglected a lot. (BTW I'm not excusing him with this, I'm just thinking).

After his and Chishiya's last scene in the show (that was pretty much the same in the Manga) I just hope that maybe they become friends (or maybe something more, yes, I ship them a lot) because, they say it themselves, they are the same. They see themselves in each other. So surely there will be bickering and bad moments but maybe they could work well together, and have their lil twisted something.

He's my favorite character actually. Yes I've received a lot of judgement for that and I'm not gonna argue against the criticism.

But it's not because I support the things he did. I absolutely agree his actions are unforgivable and I will never defend those actions or justify them.

But he's my favorite character bc he's such an incredibly sad person. He's so smart and has so much potential. but the way he keeps destroying himself without even realizing it catches my eye sm.

That became exceedingly obvious to me when i saw that he's always monolging about how isolated he feels, but his actions constantly contradict himself. He's such a complex character and so dishonest to himself. It's almost amusing to watch to be honest, I wish we got to learn more about him. Even if we didn't like him, we'd have gotten to understand him a bit more.

Yes to all of this. He's my favorite for that reason And I love explaining how yes, he is my fave, but his actions are so, so justified

Not in the moral sense, but in the sense of that it's so in character, his violence is never just for the show, it's not just violence for the sake of violence. It is unforgivable, but it has a narrative sense

Niragi is someone who went from: I've been hurt, I can do nothing about it, I can't fight back, I can't inflict the violence they inflicted upon me to "Okay fuck it I can do whateve I want"

You set a hurt, lonely person in a world where he starts at ground zero, a world where all those "What if I fight back?" scenarios are possible. And it's not only possible; it doesn't have consequences. Law is not a thing; morals are no longer holding anyone back, so who cares?

The Borderlands are rule by violence, the thing inflicted upon Niragi time after time. And now, the world is a new one. Everyone starts from the bottom of the stairs, not only him. So he can chage himself into the one who hurts, strike before being hit. Hurt before being hurt. If you do it first, if you climb faster, you turn into the preadtor instead of the pray.

Niragi journey in the Borderlands is he becoming the one who hurts, before they can use him like he used to be used and laughed off.

Now he can be as explosive as he wants to be, stop holding back those intrusive thoughts and it's so interesting and so in character and so well written that even if his acts are terrible, even if he is the biggest scum around and would never deserve redemption, you can't say: oh yes, this part of his plot is not necessary.

It is necessary for you to UNDERSTAND Niragi

And I don't know if I'm making any sense but I just love how he is written so much

No no no you're making SO much sense. Especially the part where you said they put a sad and lonely person in a lawless world.

I have argued about this with someone before, they believed that Niragi was a horrible person who acted as such even in the real world. But see, this kind of thinking is exactly why I wish we got to see him a bit more before Borderland. Niragi is an insecure man whose treatment made him morally warped. He definitely didn't dare to pull of such stunts back then, but I wouldn't go as far as to say he didn't think about it.

And just as you said - they put a sad and lonely person into a lawless world. And unlike others who were too busy surviving, Niragi saw this as a chance to act out his intrusive thoughts without any consequences. He decided to be the bully before he was bullied. This was perfectly logical to HIM.

His main trait is, he has no idea how to not be hated. It started out with him being hated for no reason, and he grew into a person that deserved to be hated. That's his whole thing. He doesn't realize it's his actions that make him hate-able, he genuinely believes he's hated because he's himself. When he thinks 'maybe I want to be liked by others' and then proceeds to punch Usagi in the face as if him being likable wasn't even possible. He can't fathom that people hate him because he keeps doing things like this. (This is proven again when he blames Usagi for the fact that Arisu won't be his friend. Like baby boy this ALL you)

It's all so horribly intriguing to me like, everything about his character and mindset ties up to make who he is.

I don't really mind if people hate him and his actions, that doesn't surprise me at all. But there are two things about him that people commonly think that I disagree with: 1. His actions were unnecessary. But it's just as you said, his actions are necessary for you to UNDERSTAND Niragi further. It's more accurate to say, those actions of his were inevitable. He was already convinced that he can get away anything because of this world and because everyone hated him anyway. There was no one to stop him or even show him how wrong it was. His thought process was basically "I'm morally warped so the world hates me" "I'm so messed up that I'd even do this and no one would care" "She hates me anyway so what if she hates me more". All of this is so you would realize, "oh, this is how he thinks. He is scum because his mindset is like this." It's not so that you would like him per se, it's just that you understand what he's like and dislike him anyway lmao.

2. He was the same before Borderland and will be the same after it as well. Let me first talk about the pre-Borderland part. We know nothing about his backstory other then the inhumane bullying he faced so I can't guarantee what he was like. But based on that I can say with confidence, that he wouldn't have dared to act out even after growing up. His bully-like looks was a mask he held onto desperately in real life, and one he got to act out in Borderland. Specifically imagine a prey who spreads out colorful wings to make themselves look threatening to becoming an actual predator (pun intended). As for post-borderland, as I mentioned in my tags before there we do see the slightest bit of development for him. Especially in the hospital when Chishiya (who is repeatedly shown as his more successful parallel) mentions wanting to live a decent life, Niragi makes a half-hearted insult. He doesn't at all sound like he disagrees with the idea. But the main reason I disagree is because of the very simple fact that they forgot their memories. They're now back in a world of actual laws and rules and morals and they do not remember how they acted at all in the real world. They only remember the pain and how they felt before they were transported (and/or the emotions they felt very strongly). This gives them all a second chance. Especially characters people consider irredeemable like Niragi. He will have people around him to help him. He might even accept getting therapy which further proves my point. But the truth is he will probably just be a much more withdrawn person who is much less of a jerk compared to how he used to be. We can't really guess exactly how things went, but it definitely didn't end with him continuing his Borderland ways.

Anyway I have rambled much more than I should have. I just couldn't stop. This is the first person who not only understands, but is also continuing to be willing to hear out my favorite character. He is literally one of the most complex characters in the show.

Just read that the captain can officiate marriages of their crew members.

I now need a fic where Luffy "marries off" Zoro and Sanji as a joke. No one thinks much of it until Robin reveals that the two are quite literally married. To get divorced it was much more complicated with a lot of unnecessary paperwork and they need to wait for the next island so now the Strawhats casually have a married couple amongst them.

Imagine them being little shits about it too. Brook playing wedding harmonies whenever ZoSan is within 5 feet of each other, Franky and Usopp hanging up a "JUST MARRIED" banner at the back of the ship, Luffy demanding wedding cake-

And sure, they can ignore the whole fiasco as they wait to get divorced. But Sanji (in true Sanji fashion) will get very flustered over the idea of being married in general, probably start acting uncharacteristically shy. Which in turn will embarrass Zoro too, increasing the tension surrounding them.

Idk man, sounds like pure comedy.

Watched the Top Ao3 Ships video made by ColeyDoesThings and folks, HuskerDust is now in the top 20 top ao3 ships at 16th place. Within one year we rose up there. Congratulations guys, this is an achievement if I say so myself.

On that note Chaggie also made it to the top 20 ships in 19th place! It's amazing, really.

Physical touch -> Physically fighting each other

Words of affirmation -> insulting each other, name calling

Quality time -> constantly around each other to hurl insults, getting unnecessarily close to each other when fighting

Acts of Service -> silently understanding each other in battle, working together IF AND ONLY IF they have no other choice

Gift giving -> Sanji cooking food Zoro would like

(That last one is less Canon and more theoretical since Sanji's love language is literally cooking for others and Zoro doesn't seem like a gift typa guy)

Heartslabyul as Alice in Wonderland characters

I'm aware that them being the Queen of Hearts and card soldiers are more or less canon but this is just my fun little take on it!

Riddle - Queen of Hearts -Obviously?? It's canon

Trey - Mad Hatter -Another popular take -Notice how he's the only Heartslabyul member that wears a hat? At least from what I remember -He's definitely mad simply because he seems like the most sane in a place where no one is -Also he bakes for (and probably by default organizes) the tea parties, which is something the Mad Hatter literally does.

Cater - Caterpillar -Shocked I've never seen anyone say this -First of all the name is similar, CATER-pillar. Idk man I think that means something -Second, they're both the most chill characters in the show/game. -None are too relevant and aren't seen much, but they always have the details of what's happening around them.

Deuce - White Rabbit -I've always thought this, and that one event solidified it for me -Very fast paced, a bit all over the place and very panicky -Deuce is in the Track club. The White Rabbit literally spends the whole story running. -Dedicated to their jobs or given tasks -Looks up to their Queen, even though they don't really agree with them. (It's more of a fear thing)

Ace - Alice -Lowkey the reason I made this, though I think this is a well known take?? -Again, similarity in names -Spends first half of the book thinking "what the fuck?" which is pretty accurate -Very audacious, I mean bro went against the Queen and his morals within his first few meetings (literally Alice-coded guys) -Also spends the first book sort of following Deuce around (he was the one following Deuce I'm telling you). That's also another reason as to why Deuce is the White Rabbit btw.

I know a lot of people consider the MC as Alice but you see, Heartslabyul is not the only fairy tale we get pushed into. I see MC as a more narrator/reader role in all this. Emphasis on Reader role bc we literally get dreams of the stories and we're mostly watching it happen as it goes.

I'm aware that this isn't a popular manga but like, this panel has had me disoriented the whole day. Like, I have been in a literal daze.

This guy since the very beginning, has been extremely fine with who he is (weird habits and a dirty mind). Even when others looked at him with disgust he did not care because as he had quoted before "I'm the kind of guy who does whatever I want when I want to". He's a great artist whose art comes from doing what he loves and being who he is.

He's my favorite character. He might even be disliked in the Fandom (that probably doesn't exist ngl), but I love him so so much.

And when the very same guy suddenly let's all his insecurities in and starts trying to change, going as far as getting into an art slump. I don't know, seeing him admit that he doesn't want the girl he likes to see him the way everyone else does, the way he's tearing up, it made my heart hurt.

They're definitely gonna make up (these two couple goals actually), but the chapter isn't out so far so that panel has been haunting me the whole fucking day.

Anyway yeah...I really just rambled over an underrated manga with no Fandom (I'll cringe after waking up tmrw)

Man Who defies the world of BL (manga) is so intriguing to me.

And I don't mean the comedy gold and top tier concept and plot that it has going.

But instead it's the "will he, will he not".

Will our MC do the impossible and break free from his universe's strings? Or will he succumb to his inevitable destiny and accept his fate of being a BL character in a BL world?

Both the endings are equally good in my opinion (bc they're both worth discussing and losing sleep over), and with Konkichi's skills, I have faith it will be laid out to us in the most interesting and fun way possible.
