“That’s the best way to name kids.” A grin. Honestly, Darla can’t think of a flower or plant name she wouldn’t like. Some might be a silly, but lots of names were silly. Like Bob. What the hell is that? That’s not a name, that’s just a sound.
Anyway, she tunes back in as Olive responds to her flood of questions, nodding, then her face falling. “That sounds awesome. It’s bullshit, though, the law. But it’s cool that you get to sew toys!” Darla doesn’t fully get toys, but they are awful cute-looking and for some reason kids like ‘em, right? So it’s for a good cause! “Do you, like, restore pre-war ones or make your own?”
Darla gets a small smile in return, shy and skittish. She’s honestly not quite used to people being friendly yet and she wonders if she ever will. For all of Goodneighbor’s bad reputation (and one that’s admittedly well-deserved, even she can admit), it’s still a world apart from the swamp she fled from.
“Both, I guess? I mean, we mostly make new ones because, you know, kids like toys, but sometimes my boss buys old ones from before the war from scavvers and fixes them up for collectors because it turns out there’s a market for that among rich people? Which is neat.”
