I've noticed this weird pattern in the Stevos Gem RP community on TikTok where, when showing off models they like, or they're showing off 'The Beauty of [insert court], they'll only show the skinny + feminine-presenting gems. Not to mention that some characters, like Aquamarine, specifically have taller, skinny, feminine models added as options instead of having masculine Aquamarines or larger Aquamarines. Every other original gem type, it feels like, are in that demographic of tall, skinny, feminine, princessy.

It's also not lost on me that whenever players enter the servers, they ask if anyone needs a Pearl first. And the amount of Porcelains and Psilomelanes...

It's not a bad thing to like what you like. Hell, Diamond Pearl is one of my favorites to play. But it's also feels slightly biased to me? I also understand that it can be hard to find a role if one isn't involved in the main court, but if that was the case, then there would be less Porcelains. Maybe a few Quartzes there to guard the doors!

Ultimately, you're allowed to play pretend however you want. It just feels odd that those playing the game can often feel so biased when the show itself established so much diversity in body and gender expression.

it’s so special to me that so much of fan culture is textual analysis for the love of the game. like thank god there are people in my phone who are also thinking about this thing i love so much that they are writing transformative fiction as character studies and setting clips of the show to music with theme-relevant lyrics and writing long text posts analyzing every line of dialogue like!! yay!!!
