Night thoughts (Owari no Seraph one-shot)
First time I tried to write a short one-shot about Owari no Seraph. And in English.
I wasnât confident enough about my English and mostly about my capacity of knowing how the characters would think or react.
But I tried.
PS: this takes place just after the first light novel (second book) of Guren Ichinose: Catastrophe at sixteen, so there may be things that if you havenât read it, you might not be aware of them.
Not any serious spoiler, though.
If anyone reads this, enjoy!

âI canât give you what you want, Sayuri.â
He had said to ther, with his deadly-serious purple eyes looking at her face. She was sure there was no trace of pity in his voice, or at least she hoped so.
In spite of all, she wasnât surprised about his answer. It sounded really reasonable. She was one of the bodyguards of the great Guren Ichinose, future leader of that house and, above all that, someone she could call a friend. And there wasnât exactly a written rule that banned relationships between a leader and a bodyguard, but it wasnât very well seen. So she just understood that, although it still hurt the same.
Sayuri stared at the starry sky that could be seen through the window. She couldnât find sleep that night. In fact, she hadnât slept almost anything in over a month (the time it had taken Guren to recover from the fight), so she had gotten used to it by then. Instead, her lonely nights were full of deep thinking.
The girl wanted to know what his master saw in Mahiru Hiragi that drove him so crazy about her. Because Sayuri knew that, despite of denying it, Guren felt something towards his childhood friend. There was a strong connection between the two of them, even if he had almost managed to hide his emotions from everyone else to watch through them. But Sayuri had noticed. No, that wasnât true. She had seen it all along this years that sheâd been by Gurenâs side. He could fool the Hiragi leaders, even the rest of his comrades, but he couldnât fool Sayuri. And she knew Shigure would just think the same as her.
She sighed, feeling the heavy burden she was carrying all alone. That wasnât anything near the huge burden Guren carried, she had to admit it, but having the love of your life so close, and so far away from you at the same time was consuming her from the inside. Sayuri always told herself that at least she was next to him, and that was enough. But she also knew it WASNâT enough, and most likely will never be, and as years passed that tension in her chest didnât seem but grow wider, never leaving her side.
Sometimes, she really wished Guren would hold her in his arms, like a porcelain doll that might break up in any moment, as if she was something precious to him. She still remembered when he had carried her in his arms to the hospital, after her battle against Seishiro. She wouldnât tell his master, but she had sensed his worry and his anger against the man who had hurt her. And although she should have been more worried abour her state, other than taking notice of Gurenâs reactions, she had been filled with joy⌠Until she passed out.
âUgh, I am so selfishâ, Sayuri reprimanded to herself. But it was all true. She wouldnât mind if any night her leader would sneak into her bedroom and take her, right there. She would be waiting for it.
But she knew that night wouldnât be the right time. That time would never come, most likely. So she turned her body to accomodate to her pillow and wished goodnight to anyone except her inner wishes.
