So very late but I read your FMA fics and Challengers fic and have been so very enraptured by your writing style. i wanted to ask you a question from the old ask game, mostly because I'm curious about it anyways:

which one of your two fics do you feel are the most different from each other? both in terms of the writing itself but also the experience of writing them

Oh wow that's so nice and I'm glad you enjoyed FMA + Challengers stories because those are such different fandoms and such different times in my life! I'd actually be curious what you think since I'm sure you've read most of them more recently than I have.

Honestly, there was probably more of a range within my FMA fics than even between fics in different fandoms. I attribute that to the FMA canon having such a range of tones within it. So I was writing silly ficlets for weekly challenges -- like the ones with the Mustang gang talking about sex addiction -- and I also wrote 'Good Soldiers' and 'Girl in the War' -- which were a combination of outlining and just carrying a lot of head canon that I kept carving pieces off of.

Jane doesn’t know whether she believes gambling is wrong. That’s the problem with growing into a person that her pious child self wouldn’t recognize. The world is so full of things she knows are fine, or even good, but carry a faint taste of sin: condoms and socialism, heavy metal and plunging necklines. Jane’s instincts are fucked around this stuff. She crossed “extremely protected sex with a guy she just met” off her list a month out of the convent.

Gambling in a casino though -- is it immoral or just wasteful? She’s sure that if she looked into the business model, it preys on the poor, but she’s not sure if participating is more like ordering from Amazon (they suck but you’re definitely going to use that air fryer) or voting for people who want to take health care from kids (don’t get her started.)

When she steps onto the floor of the casino, a waitress in a toga hands her a free drink, and she immediately pours way too much money into slots. The dice games are too complicated, roulette seems so simple it must be dangerous.

She thinks she knows blackjack, from a game show when she was a kid, so she sits in for a hand while she thinks of her next move, and that’s when she notices the boy. She thinks “boy” though he’s at least her age, likely older. His eyes have lines, and the flat casino lighting catches silver in his dark hair. But something in her first glance of Daniel Kellner puts her in mind of a lost and dreamy kid and this, unfortunately, has always been her type.

WIP Wednesday : Disclosure Day

No spoilers besides very general background we learn about Jane and Daniel. The movie doesn't really care but I'm kind of obsessed with people in what's obviously a pretty new relationship getting pulled into Spielbergian insanity together; I'm also thinking about how, in the greater DC area, meeting a sweet, distracted nerd who has a job he isn't allowed to talk about isn't that odd of a thing.

Jane should never have told the other nurses about the convent.  They assume she’s clueless about dating, or sex.  It doesn’t matter that she was married before.  Wedding, then nursing degree, then dead husband, thenconvent.  That all made it easy enough to get back into the workforce.  

The dating pool, less so, but that’s not because of her time as a novitiate.  It’s because she works long hours, and because she lives in fucking Occoquan.  She’s been on the apps, but everybody she matches expects her to drive around the Beltway to Maryland.  When she does get past a date or two, she keeps gravitating to quiet guys who say they work “in IT” or “for a contractor” but can’t or won’t be specific about their work.  That’s a DC type, and she’s sure it means something with drones, or spy satellites.  At best, building apps to help systems that help kidnap kids more efficiently.

She ought to move.  She can do this work anywhere.  She can do it overseas, but is there any place better?
