I've been struggling a bit with Andor and how it portrays Cassian as reluctant to fight. It feels like it undermines the lines in Rogue One where he says 'I've been in this fight since I was six years old', and 'we don't all have the luxury of chosing when we care about something'. Except Andor is much more nuanced than I imagined. The Fight wasn't against the Empire. It was against oppression. Cassian's fight started the moment the Republic colonialists set a foot on his planet.

From the moment we see him, Cassian has been racially profiled. The reason he had to run was not because he stole from the Empire, it was because some racist cops started harassing him. And because a friend sold him out because he was jealous of the "Kenari male".

And that, I think, is what Cassian is referring to in Rogue One, at least with the 'retcon' of the show. Jyn could lay low and keep her head down and live her life. "It is not a problem if you keep your head down," she says. Except that was never an option for Cassian. He did keep his head down and it was not nearly enough. His very existence is an act of rebellion.

And I love the show for exploring that.
