If you haven't heard, the em dash has been getting a lot of attention lately…
Because it was trained on pirated work—including freely accessible online writing (like fanfic, academic texts)—ChatGPT picked up patterns and quirks native to human writing.
Including (sigh) the em dash.
There are other victims here (RIP tapestry and delve 🫠), but the appropriation of the em dash—a punctuation mark beloved by writers everywhere—feels especially personal.
A kind of low-grade panic is ensuing. Writers who once memed their own em dash overuse—the greatest punctuation mark ever to grace the control-freak’s lexicon, frankly—are suddenly backing away to avoid accusations.
No. More. We have centuries of dash-abusing writers behind us. We will not sit quietly while AI repurposes our beloved stilted aside—or the just-one-more clarification the sentence demands—or the dramatic pause your comma could never—etc.
You don’t write like AI—AI writes like you.
Defend the em dash.

Chart ruler observations 🪐
The sign that your chart ruler is placed in can decide whether your chart ruler‘s energy is supported and embraced or toned down. For this example, I’m going to use traditional rulership as we haven’t experienced certain signs for neptune and pluto in recent history.
Aries & Scorpio Rising, ruled by Mars Embraced through a strong Mars, like Aries, Scorpio and Capricorn, all 3 signs naturally do well in Mars. Also I’d add the 2 remaining fire signs here: Leo & Sagittarius. I find Gemini and Aquarius to be a signs that can work very well with Mars qualities, although Aquarius can hyper intellectualize and tone down Mars qualities.
Toned down through a Mars sign that is considered weak, like Taurus, Cancer and Libra. As a sign that Venus does very well in, I’d also add Pisces, Venusian and Marsian energies are very different and can clash at times. Virgo is really a 50/50 thing, but I lean more towards a toned down or very rationally experienced mars energy.
Taurus & Libra Rising, ruled by Venus Embraced through strong Venus signs like Taurus, Libra and Pisces. This might be somewhat controversial, but I’d add Sagittarius as another jupiterian influence to the list, yes Sagittarius doesn’t commit easily but it’s a sign that brings in a lot of strong and positive energy. Cancer as a moon ruled sign also embraces Venusian energy beautifully, and I’d add another luminary sign to this list: Leo.
Toned down through Venus signs that are considered challenging like Scorpio, Aries and Virgo. I‘d also add Aquarius and Capricorn as strong Saturn influences in here, both energies tend to clash more often than not. Gemini is a 50/50 thing, there’s certainly a tendency to develop unhealthy obsessions through overthinking emotions.
Gemini & Virgo Rising, ruled by Mercury Embraced through traditionally strong Mercury signs, Gemini and Virgo. Also very strong in their analytical skills are Aquarius and Capricorn. Scorpio and Aries are a difficult choice to make, both are very strong Mercury signs to have, perhaps a bit too emotional at times for the nature of Mercury but nonetheless very unique Mercury signs.
Toned down through traditionally weak Mercury signs, Sagittarius & Pisces. I‘d also add to that list the luminaries, Leo and Cancer, their style of communication isn’t conventional and I feel like they can be too creative at times for mercury‘s structured nature. Libra and Taurus as Venusian signs are tricky, but being placed in Mercury they tend to lack the special kind of confrontational nature Mercury tends to require.
Cancer Rising, ruled by the Moon Embraced through the two traditionally most beneficial moon signs, Taurus and Cancer. I‘d also add the two other water signs to that list, Pisces and Scorpio, yes Scorpio is an unpopular choice but as a traditionally mars ruled water sign it brings a lot of intensity and intuition. I‘d also add the one remaining luminary to the list: Leo, you either love or hate Leo moons, but it’s the only sign that understands the struggle of eclipses and what is connected to them.
Toned down through a sign that does traditionally poorly when the moon is placed here: Capricorn. Although I love Aquarius moons (healed & evolved ofc!), I’d add them to the list as well as I find them to struggle quite a bit with identifying and accepting emotions. Sagittarius and Aries as two fire signs are interesting moon signs, but in my opinion not too supportive of the moon‘s nature. The same goes for the mercury ruled signs Gemini & Virgo. This might also be an unpopular take, but the moon placed in Libra tends to be really a 50/50 thing, either this placements works very well with favorable aspects or it doesn’t work at all.
Leo Rising, ruled by the Sun Embraced through traditionally strong sun signs, Leo and Aries. I‘d also add the remaining fire sign to that list, Sagittarius. Cancer and Pisces might be an unpopular choice but as they both do very well in Jupiter and positive Jupiter-Sun aspects are extremely impactful, I really enjoy these two sun signs. Gemini as a structured but very curious sign is one of the two mercury ruled signs that I feel can really thrive when the sun is placed here.
Toned down through traditionally weak sun signs, Libra and Aquarius. I‘d also add two strong signs that in my opinion tend to overshadow the sun‘s qualities: Capricorn and Scorpio. This might be a controversial take, I love Taurus suns but I feel like evolving your taurus sun to strongly support your Leo rising is a true challenge and not many people are able to master it. Virgo as another earth sign can be too strict and structured to support the rather unstructured and emotional nature of the Sun.
Sagittarius & Pisces Rising, Jupiter ruled Embraced through traditionally strong Jupiter signs, Sagittarius, Cancer and Pisces. I‘d definitely add Leo and Aries to the list, as positive Sun-Jupiter aspects are highly favorable and the Sun is in its domicile in Leo and exalts in Aries. Taurus can also be a strong sign to have your Jupiter placed in, however this choice was a bit harder to make.
Toned down through Jupiter signs that are traditionally considered challenging, Capricorn, Virgo and Gemini. Scorpio, Libra and Aquarius tend to be more on the challenging side too. Saturn is exalted in Libra which adds another layer to Libra‘s venusian energy. Aquarius is traditionally Saturn ruled, which clashes with Jupiterian energy. Scorpio is traditionally mars ruled but the sun doesn’t exalt in it like it does in Aries, which is why it’s a rather difficult Saturn placement.
Capricorn & Aquarius rising, Saturn ruled Embraced through traditionally strong Saturn sign, Capricorn, Aquarius and Libra. Virgo and Gemini as Mercury ruled signs can help support Saturn‘s strong nature and blend in their analytical skills. Scorpio might be an unpopular choice, but as a mars ruled sign it can handle quite a bit of Saturn‘s tasks and structure.
Toned down by traditionally considered challenging Saturn signs, like Cancer, Leo and Aries. I‘d also add the third fire sign to this list: Sagittarius, it’s Jupiter ruled and those two influences tend to clash rather than support one another. Taurus as a venusian and Pisces as a jupiterian sign also tend to rather tone down Saturn‘s energy rather than amplify it and support it.

☿ Mercury-Pluto aspects: Words that slide in like blades—gentle at first, then twisting. They’ll mindfuck you with a whisper, unwrap your secrets, and spit them back to you wrapped in honeyed threats. Dirty talk that sounds like prophecy.
♏ Scorpio Lilith knows the exact way to ruin you. Not through screaming chaos—but a look across the room, a breath too close, a touch that hovers but never lands. You’ll spiral, and they’ll smirk.
♑ Saturn in the 8th: Control kink incarnate. They’re into earning your surrender, drawing it out slow and strict. Consent is the ritual. Obedience is the offering.
⚡ Uranus in the 8th or square Venus wants to electrify you into disobedience. Sex that feels like breaking the law, or maybe religion. One taste and you’re unrecognizable to yourself.

i'll defend fanfic for my whole life. like the joy it brings is genuinely transformative and indulgent in a way unique to the genre. it isn't meant for a market, it isn't meant to be sold or marketed. it is born out of such care and passion for a media that one must write and must share it, so other folks can enjoy it to. for no other reason than love and joy. do you know how special that is? especially in our current social and political climate.
