Anyone feel like this moment (straight from the book) is the biggest red herring on earth? Reading the book, you'd think this is the crafty arch villain, who has his spies everywhere, possibly even had a hand in the LHF‘s death… and that him having his informants would become a big plot point eventually. You keep expecting Ray or someone to turn out to be Tedesco’s mole, and Tedesco being the one who pulls the strings behind the scenes. While he’s really just a plain, straightforward fascist idiot. Just like I often still can't believe that the plot of Conclave is not about Lawmeli finding and exposing the LHF‘s killer. I’ve rarely read a book that had me so fooled what it even was about*. Anyone else feel the same way?

This honestly reminds me of a show on the history channel where they spent like 25 minutes wondering how the sides of all the pyramids seemed to be perfectly divisible by pi or something, and people where theorizing about aliens and some lost form of mathematics, but then at the end they interviewed a tiered looking paleontologist and he was just like “maybe they just used a wheel to do all their measurements.” and the whole show just immediately collapsed.
