Medusa in Astrology: Transforming Fear Into Power 🐍 Updated

I’ve always been fascinated by Medusa. Before I ever picked up an astrology book, before I knew what a birth chart chart even was. Medusa was my first doorway into Greek mythology, this misunderstood, feared and powerful woman whose story felt like more than just a legend. It felt familiar.

So imagine my reaction when I discovered asteroid Medusa (149) sitting in my 10th house in Taurus, no less. The house of public image, legacy, reputation and career.

Astrologically, Medusa represents deep emotional wounding tied to shame, fear and betrayal but also the untapped power waiting to be reclaimed. She marks the places in our chart where we’ve been demonized for simply existing and where we’re being called to rise from the ashes, not by becoming someone else but by becoming more of ourselves.

Her placement in my chart made so much of my experience make sense: the fear of being seen too much, the way others projected onto me, the ache of being misunderstood just for existing in my truth. But it also showed me the potential to transmute that fear into presence. Into impact. Into voice. I’m trying but I’ll get there.

Medusa’s mythology is often twisted into a tale of monstrous rage, but she was once a beautiful maiden violated and betrayed, punished for her pain. In astrology, Medusa reveals where we’ve been wounded in ways that left scars on our self image, voice, relationships and power but also where those same wounds can become fuel for transformation.

It shows up in the parts of our chart where we may have been silenced, shamed, or feared and challenges us to reclaim our story.

Here’s what I’ve learned about her placement through personal study, client sessions and a whole lot of work.

Medusa Through the Houses

1st house If you’ve ever felt like people make assumptions the moment you walk into a room, yeah, Medusa’s energy here is real. Identity and appearance become battlegrounds. But over time, you learn that what people fear is just your power, and that’s not something to shrink from, it’s your edge.

2nd house This one often feels like a scarcity wound. Maybe you grew up hearing you weren’t enough. Betrayal around money or self worth. But through this placement, you learn to redefine value on your own terms.

3rd house I’ve seen this show up when someone grew up being told to be quiet. There’s a voice in you waiting to be freed. With Medusa here, you’ve likely been silenced before but when you reclaim your narrative, you roar.

4th house Old ghosts live here. I’ve had clients who carried intergenerational trauma or grew up in homes where safety was inconsistent. This placement asks you to break the cycle, to choose your own family and build a foundation rooted in empowerment.

5th house It’s not always easy to be vulnerable when creativity feels like exposure. With Medusa here, your artistic voice might’ve been mocked or minimized. But your joy, your passion and your ability to love is sacred. Own it.

6th house (I’m sorry it’s longer than the others, but it’s significant.) You’re constantly being measured by your usefulness, like your worth is tied to how much you do, how perfectly you serve or how well you perform. Betrayal in the workplace or health struggles that were ignored, minimized or even misdiagnosed.

For some, this shows up as chronic illness that no one believed. For others, it’s the trauma of being the dependable one who breaks down in private. There’s often a deep fear of being seen as weak or incapable and a pressure to keep it all together no matter the cost.

But Medusa in the 6th is here to help you reclaim your energy and rewrite the story. You don’t exist to be consumed by work or to sacrifice your well being for others. You’re allowed to rest. You’re allowed to say no. And you’re allowed to create rituals and routines that honor your body, your healing and your power not just your productivity.

7th house If you’ve had toxic or controlling relationships, this might be why. Medusa in the 7th reveals where we attract (or become) the power dynamics we fear. But it’s also where we learn to forge bonds that are rooted in truth, not fear.

8th house Often involves trauma around intimacy, death or power. I’ve seen this show up in people who have incredible healing gifts but only after they’ve walked through fire. The shadows here are powerful, but so is the potential for rebirth.

9th house When your truth has been challenged especially around spirituality, religions or belief systems, this placement shows up. A fear of expanding beyond what’s safe but also an incredible drive to seek freedom through knowledge and perspective.

10th house This one hit home for me. It’s about being misunderstood in the public eye or feeling like your career path is haunted by shame or projection. The key here is to own your visibility. You are not here to be palatable. You are here to be powerful.

11th house You may have experienced exclusion or betrayal in friendships or communities. But Medusa here helps you find your people, the ones who don’t just tolerate your truth but celebrate it. This is leadership forged through loneliness.

12th house Heavy with psychic weight. You feel like your fears are hidden even from yourself. But it’s also where Medusa becomes the priestess, able to guide others through their own underworld once she’s faced her own.

idk if this means anything but my longtime bf (7years+) & i share inverse(?) placements, and i was wondering if it holds any significance?

example:

my sag mars in 7H , his libra mars in 9H

my gemini saturn(rx) in 1H, his aries saturn in 3H

Relationship patterns (Mars, Saturn) 🤍

Uhhhhh.....it's a pattern but it's not exactly what astrologers mean by inverse placements. Inverse placements would be something like you having Mars in Sagittarius and him having Mars in Gemini the exact opposite sign or you having Mars in the 7th house and him having Mars in the 1st house. What you guys actually have is a really cool symmetry. Look at the numbers of your houses and the signs they match up with. You have Mars in the 7th house and he has Mars in the 9th house. You have Saturn in the 1st house and he has Saturn in the 3rd house. Notice how in both examples his placements are exactly two houses ahead of yours?

In astrology a distance of two houses or two signs creates a sextile. This is a very supportive harmonious energy. Your planets speak a similar language and work well together but they aren't totally identical which still keeps things interesting

I mean the fact that this pattern repeats across different planets shows that your charts have a natural rhythm that flows together. After seven years, you've probably already felt this. It usually shows up as an easy understanding of each other's drives (Mars) and a shared approach to responsibilities, timing, growth (Saturn). You operate at a similar pace which makes a long term relationship feel less like constant work and more like a steady partnership. So yes.....it;s a big part of why you two click so well

Hiiii! Please don't say unfortunately I actually really love this placement! I'm a Taurus Sun and Mercury 🫂 but mine is in the 10th house, yours on the other side in the 4th house means your mind works best when you feel completely safe, secure, and comfortable. You aren't the type to just blurt things out or rush into making a decision. You really take your time to process your thoughts and once you finally say something you mean every single word of it and I love this about us

Because the 4th house rules home and your private life, you need a quiet cozy space just to think clearly and recharge. You hate loud arguments or being put on the spot espcially by family or people in your personal space. Your communication style is naturally calming and grounded which usually makes you the person everyone wants to talk to when they need real practical advice or just a peaceful presence. I had a few general questions about the d9 chart;

Should nakshatras matter while studying the d9 chart?

2. Does Jupiter still play the significator of the husband in the d9 chart? Or simply wisdom after hitting 40s or just growing spiritually?

3. Also tied to the Jupiter question, I've often heard really bad misconceptions about scorpio(the sign as a whole really loves elitomisimg the misunderstoodtrope,in every way lol). But idk enough to call that out even after intuiting it.

So one of my relatives who were obsessed about astrology claimed that Jupiter in Scorpio in d9, even if unafflicted, gives unsupportive male spouse who never opens up to you, hides everything, is always secretly jealous of the native, secretly competes with native. Why does this feel like some seriously negative stereotyping?
