Hi! I've been following your blog for a while now, and I really enjoy the way you portray Severus, so I would like to ask: which traits of his do you think are not as talked about, but should be? I also would like to know what do you do when you find yourself facing the huge part of this community that has a rather big hate for Snape. Please keep on writing, you are amazing at it! Lots of love
Traits about Snape that aren’t very well known:
He always wears patterned socks. Most of them are gifts from Dumbledore (but they are soft, so…), but he bought a pair with little ravens on it that one time he went to Norway on a summer research trip.
He spells his tea to look black, but he always secretly adds sugar and milk.
He savors the feeling of his fingers on crisp new paper, especially when turning the pages of a new book.
He savors the feeling of his fingers slipping on old pages of well-loved books even more.
He often thinks of or says the meanest thing he can think of when first meeting someone- Severus is used to being treated like a fool, like someone not worthy of respect. He expects to be attacked, and would rather attack first than be made a fool for trusting someone else. He is less likely to do this with people he knows well, but sometimes he will do so in a way that both know are meant in jest, though it may not seem like it to an outsider watching the conversation.
Severus has other types of robes in his wardrobe, but he cannot bring himself to wear them. His neck itches relentlessly with shame when he’s wearing anything with a pattern. However, he makes an exception for the tartan shawl that Minerva gave him for his birthday one year. He wears it in his quarters when the dungeons are exceedingly cold.
No one but Minerva is allowed to see him wear it.
Severus practices walking places where he will have to spend time so that he can learn everything there is to know about a place and walk there in darkness or under unsavory weather conditions without tripping or falling. He is very nervous and careful, so he often seems somewhat twitchy when forced into an unfamiliar place, especially an open space.
Severus is fairly agoraphobic, slightly claustrophobic, and he refuses to admit to suffering from either.
He is stubborn, stubborn, stubborn. Even if it is to his detriment.
Severus hates himself but is ironically also proud of his intellect and looks down upon others. It is hard for him to reconcile this hypocrisy, so he tries to ignore it.
Severus secretly enjoys being ugly. People are more honest with ugly people than they are with people they feel they need to impress because they’re attractive.
