How tall are you? Just wondering because you look tall and elegant in your cosplay.
I’m am 5’7 without any shoes on, so I’d say pretty average? The heels add 3 or 4 inches though. Thank you though!

hey i´m Jasmin and i would like to ask how did you made your ahri tails and how do you wear them ?
Hi there! Everything you need to know about my Ahri tails can be found on my Deviantart. If you need construction notes on anything else, please see this post or my Facebook page.
Have another one! This one is an overview on how I made the top parts of my Ahri cosplay. Super glad I made a muslin pattern (a few times over too!) because it paid off and I just neatly sewed everything up when it came to my final fabric. It was such a pain to find correct fabric for the lighter parts of Ahri. I looked all over the web and even at a bunch of local spots to find something but it's so hard to find a desaturated purple! Especially in something that had a sheen but wasn't horrifically shiny! I found 2 way stretch silk in white and hand dyed it to make sure that it matched the splash art of Popstar Ahri. Totally worth all of the awful conversion of dye math I had to do XD This was also the first time that I made my own bias tape! Because no one makes shimmery bias tape? I followed this tutorial (http://www.danamadeit.com/2008/07/technique-understanding-bias-and-making-bias-tape.html) Lucked out and found the perfect sequin fabric in both size and color wise in the LA fabric district. Lined it all in 2 way stretch purple cotton to add some more structure to the fabric, since the silk was so slippery and limp. Went ahead and also added super stiff interfacing for the collar and cuffs. I hope this helps some people! Let me know if anyone has question about how I made something
Starting things off with Popstar Ahri's hat + ears! Why? Because it's at the top of her head and I never understood how people made hats. I still don't think I do haha. But here is how I put mine together. Let me know if anyone has some pointers or better ways to do hats, I'm always open to new techniques (Ear base made with help from Jinglebooboo. She also casted all the resin hearts on my Ahri cosplay)

Have some Scissor Blade Construction Notes! I made both of the Scissor Blades out of 3 sheets of 1/2 inch MDF glued together. The sheets I bought were more than big enough to fit both pattern pieces on, so I just cut it down the middle (once they were glued with wood glue and thoroughly dried) to make it easier to move and cut. Other than that it was a pretty straightforward process with these. Just a lot of weekends sanding and priming really.
Each ended up weighing 3 1/2 pounds, if anyone is curious about the weight of MDF. If you have any questions feel free to ask them!
those ears that Jingle made for you are amazing! would there possibly be a tutorial lurking around somewhere? (*O*)
Mmmm, not that we went off of, but here is one I found that is pretty much what we did: http://www.deviantart.com/art/Animal-Ears-Tutorial-212073357I watered down my acrylic and did it in many many layers with a real paint brush instead of a toothbrush. We also used a metal headband instead of two hair clips, and all we did was stab through the craft foam to "make a hole".It might be easier to see it all here: https://www.facebook.com/lilybatcosplay/photos/a.508720055924608.1073741829.487222898074324/508720072591273/?type=1&permPage=1
Fashion Wig update!
Good news, the curls accepted their fate, and the ends are cooperating! I went ahead and did the boiling water method, mixed with the paper ends. Thanks again to every one over at Arda for the helpful suggestions, and KawaiKunaii for all the wig curling options! Everything turned out MUCH better this time around, and besides the wait for the wig to dry, it was super easy to do. I ended up getting a little bit of crease marks from the rollers, but it was easily fixed with a quick tap with the straight iron.
I can't wait to shake it out and get a more natural curl instead of these ringlets, but for now I'm just happy
(Here is the site I bought from, btw)
Jingle came over and we crafted together this weekend! She made me these cutie pie ears! I'm so excited to have them, so I tried them on with my wig before I paint them (because I'm impatient and want cute ears >.>)
Also! I finished painting my shoes, and I am very happy with the color, but I don't know if I like it this satin shine, or if I want to bump it up to super glossy. What are your thoughts?
I've also completed 5 of 9 tails and filled them. Next is painting and then installing the inner workings to make them stay up. It's going to be a challenge, but I'm gonna do it!
(Question mark for Reply function!) ?
Hey guys!
Thought I'd give you guys a quick update! I got my yards and yards of pink fur for Ahri. I've already started working on it and I have 1 tail fully finished and it's exactly how I want it to be. I just got done cutting out 5 more tonight, and will hopefully be sewing /cutting more this weekend. I'm taking a ton of progress pictures so that I can compile a huge tutorial on how I'm executing her tail, so there won't be too many in depth details about the tails until then. Just fun snippets like this!
Keep you're eyes peeled for more updates!
Swatches! What a new experience for me!
Before, with all my costumes, I just searched around the area’s Jo-anns to find the fabrics for my cosplays. Sometimes this worked out beautifully, but more than not, I was never happy with the type or color. But I was always too scared to order fabric online. How would I know what it felt like, how it would it look in different light, and how did it stretch? There were too many variables!
And that’s where the magic of swatches come in! You get to browse the internet’s magnificent selection of different colors and types of fabric, but you don’t have to commit to yards and yards of it.
For usually a small price (I’ve seen anywhere from free to $1.00) you can get a sample square of the fabric you were debating. The only problem I have run into so far is that the shipping can be ridiculous. For one of the swatches for my Popstar Ahri, it cost $5.00 to ship it to me. On the other hand though, my fur swatches from Distinctive Fabric cost me nothing! Just do a bit of research before buying swatches. I think they're more than worth their money to make sure you don't waste a whole lot more money and be dissatisfied with the fabric choice.
When looking at fabric, I usually start off with color and possibly a fabric trait as well. For my Ahri, I knew that the bodice either had to be sequined, or holographic spandex, so I started there. Once I find a plethora of fabrics I think would be best, I compile them all together in one document to see how they look side by side, and even more importantly, how they compare to the reference material. Here are some I did for Ahri:
As you can see, I’ve lined them up and put the original full reference in there, as well as a small reference icon next to each fabric to easily compare it side by side. I’ve also gone ahead and labeled what fabric they are, what stretch factor they have (located in the hearts) and numbered them so I can ask other what they think would work best based on sight. It’s a little over the top, but I love to organize things, and this helps me a ton when I need to ask for an outside opinion. (Be careful when comparing to reference material! I know that this one has a lot of bounce lighting and I compensate accordingly.)
From here, I usually narrow it down to hopefully 2 or 3 fabric choices per fabric I want. Then I get to ordering swatches! For this batch, I ordered 2, 3, and 10 I believe. While I'm at it, I try to get all the swatches I need for every cosplay if they happen to be from the same store. I usually offer up to my friends that I'm ordering swatches from a certain site so that if they need some it cuts down on the shipping factor.
Here are the swatches I received (Note that the scales have not been changed for any of these):
From here I get to play with them. I see them under different lights (daylight, white light, yellow light, indoors, outdoors, etc.), take photos of them (flash, no flash, different levels of cameras), and stretch them (how much give do they have? Too much, too little?). All of these factors add up until I decide the winner. In this case a swatch number 2 won out.
Don't forget that some fabrics can be dyed, so if it's not the right color, you can do it yourself.
Ah! Thank you so much for the tip!
I asked around Arda (for anyone else having the problem) and they recommended either 1)The boiling water method or 2)Curling papers (which can also be accomplished with notebook paper) I think I'm going to try what Kawaikunaii suggested first though! Mostly because it sounds easy, haha! Thanks again for the tip! I will post with results later.

Unfortunately, things do not always work out well for me in the wig world.
I made the mistake of straightening one of my fashion wigs that I wear out for everyday funsies 1) because it was a tangled mess thanks to the wind and 2) I wanted to know if I could use it both ways (curly and straight). It turns out that I don't like it straight, but good news is the wig accepts heat well.
So I tried to recurl it. The curls themselves came out pretty, it's just the pesky bottom ends that are getting to me. They seem to have a mind of their own.
Anyone have any tips for how to help out my poor wig?
New cosplay making book is published! Learn to paint all the stuff for only 5$! ORDER IT NOW!
I just got through reading this after Pre-Ordering the eBook version!
Thought I'd do a quick little review of it
First off, I'd like to say that Kamui is just an absolute doll! She's always so happy, and super active in the cosplay community. Her works are stunning, and she's always trying to help others out by sharing her knowledge. This is her second in her cosplay book series (The first one you can buy here), and while I don't own the first one, after reading this and seeing how well it was done, I'm probably going to get the first one for myself as well.
This book pretty much covers what the title says. It goes over Kamui's techniques on how she achieves the looks of her armor and prop work. It goes over tools, priming, a base coat, colors, gradients, metal, organics, and more. It's a general overview, but she does take the time to explain a lot of her choices, and what a cosplayer can do to really start making their painting jobs pop. I think that it's her tips and techniques for weathering that make her works seem so real, and ones that I need to start introducing into my own cosplay.
Overall, you can find a good amount of this information scattered about her facebook, site, or even her tumblr. However, the book does have more details on each technique, as well as being super handy to have it all in one spot. Not to mention you can get the eBook (PDF) for only $5, which is a great price, and you'll be helping out a super wonderful cosplayer, so I think it's a win-win for everybody.
If you have any questions about what's in the book because you're on the fence about getting it, feel free to reblog or send me an ask! Also remember for you paper lovers, that she also sells physical copies.
Hi Guys!
I thought I would introduce what cosplays I have planned for this year, and why I chose them!
The first one up is Kitty Pryde from X-Men. I have always wanted to do a comic book character, as I like super heroes, and wanted a cosplay that would be more appropriate for comic cons. I'm actually more of a DC fan, but I also have love for Marvel too! I've always kinda felt a connection to Kitty as well, be it the fact that we look a bit similar, or if I was in her position, we exhibit some of the same traits. I decided to go with the Bishojou Figurine's look, because I think it's very classical and recognizable. Plus it matches my cosplay partner-in-crime's Pixie that she will also be doing this year with me.
I've also been super into League of Legends these last 6 months or so (not that I'm actually good at it, but it's fun!), so I thought it would be fun to cosplay as Popstar Ahri. While I actually don't play as Ahri too much (Kog'Maw is my main), I really like her design a TON. I'm a huge fan of K-pop groups, and with such a blatant homage to Girls Generation in this skin, there is no way I could say now. She is proving to be quite the challenge so far though!
I'm very excited to be doing both of these cosplays this year (and even have a few more I would like to do, but we will have to see how much time and money I can commit further). I hope to be able to post a lot of my progress with these two here! Be on the look out for more soon!
