Everyone I talk to about Supergirl just reduces everything about the movie into her saving her dog. LIKE NO, there is SO MUCH MORE! Yes, she’s saving her dog, but she’s also fighting against child traffickers and trying to save this little girl from facing the burden of killing somebody. I’m so tired of telling people how amazing this movie is just for them to be “oh, so she’s just a little girl saving her dog, that’s not very interesting but you do you.” John Wick is a hit but the minute it’s a woman, the movie changes to a girl just trying to save her dog

5 Tiny Writing Tips That Aren’t Talked About Enough (but work for me)

These are some lowkey underrated tips I’ve seen floating around writing communities — the kind that don’t get flashy attention but seriously changed how I write.

1. Put “he/she/they” at the start of the sentence less often.

Try switching up your sentence rhythm. Instead of

“She walked to the window,”

try

“The window creaked open under her touch.”

Keeps it fresh and stops the paragraph from sounding like a checklist.

2. Don’t describe everything — describe what matters.

Instead of listing every detail in a room, pick 2–3 objects that say something.

“A half-drunk mug of tea and a knife on the table”

sets a way stronger tone than

“There was a wooden table, two chairs, and a shelf.”

3. Use beats instead of dialogue tags sometimes.

Instead of:

"I'm fine," she said.

Try:

"I'm fine." She wiped her hands on her skirt.

It helps shows emotion, and movement.

4. Write your first draft like no one will ever read it.

No pressure. No perfection. Just vibes. The point of draft one is to exist. Let it be messy and weird — future you will thank you for at least something to edit.

5. When stuck, ask: “What’s the most fun thing that could happen next?”

Not logical. Not realistic. FUN. It doesn’t have to stay — but chasing excitement can blast through writer’s block and give you ideas you actually want to write.

Me when the only friend I trust temporarily loses contact with me + I get really depressed + I start accepting that half of my friends are bigoted bullies who are only nice to me because they don’t even know me (I only stay with them because I’m lonely, why do I stay with them when I just feel worse and I can count the number of words Ive said to them in one year-) + realizing all my friends don’t really know me and they can’t + becoming stressed about summer work because I can’t physically get myself to do the work so I get more stressed:

I got covid way back in the first wave, before the vaccines were available, and sometimes people are like "did you suffer any permanent damage?" and technically the answer is 'yes' but I have to say 'no' because if they were like "oh, no, what happened?" then I would have to admit that I get really phlegmy and cough a lot now after eating warm or spicy food. That's it that's the difference. Obviously I'm grateful that I didn't get any of the really horrible symptoms but what a ridiculous one. Could've let me recover fully, but no... hot food makes goo now. Okay.

people need to talk about socially acceptable abuse more. it's literally why we're a system. the spanking that people refuse to believe is physical abuse when there are multiple studies showing it affects kids just as much as any other type of physical abuse. the way a parent might talk down to their kid their entire life and make them feel like they cant make any choices themself or be independent that they only notice when someone else points out how their parent(s) talk too and about them. the parentification of the oldest kid(s) when they have a single parent. the unnoticeable praise towards the "easy" child that all the other children pick up on. the neglect the "easy" child has to go through. a kid being punished for going to their parent(s) when they mess up and need help. not being taught how to clean or cook or do laundry or even how to wash certain parts. it all destroys a kid and it was all socially acceptable in my family and in the communities i grew up in.

It irritates me so much bc any time I speak out against it, anytime anyone speaks out against it, it’s always treated like I’m/we’re the crazy one(s) who can’t handle “normal parenting”
