Please reblog this version!!
This is the hell Americans are living in: the senate took 9 MONTHS to decide whether or not to give us more money during this pandemic. They finally decided to give every American $600.
Once.
Not monthly, not for several weeks.
Once.
Our minimum wage is $15.
That means they’re giving us one paycheck that is equal to a 40 hour a week work week at minimum wage.
J U S T O N C E
Took them 9 FUCKING months of raking in a senator’s fucking salary of cash into their pockets piddling and poking and getting tax breaks for themselves.
And this is what they give us.
THEY MAKE $174,000 PER YEAR.
That means:
Biweekly salary of $174,000 a year is $6,692 per 2 weeks Weekly salary of $174,000 a year is $3,346 per week Daily salary of $174,000 a year is $669 per day Hourly salary of $174,000 a year is $89.23 per hour
That means that in the 9 months they refused to give anyone money through this pandemic, have let people die and encouraged people to go out and get infected, they have made $120,456 EACH.
AND THEY WANT TO GIVE US $600.
ONCE.
This is primarily on Mitch McConnell. One of his sticking points is not giving the American people “too much money” because??? The democrats have been proposing more money for working class americans since MAY and Mitch won’t even let the senate VOTE on those proposals. If you live in georgia, please vote in the senate runoffs and vote for the democrats, because Mitch has way too much power right now and we can take away his majority with those two seats.
And if you don’t live in Georgia, it’s still helpful even at this stage to donate to Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff‘s campaigns, and/or to Stacy Abrams’ https://fairfight.com/ initiative. If both Warnock and Ossoff win their seats, the Republicans lose their majority in the senate, which means that McConnell will no longer be the majority leader- and will those no longer be in the position that has allowed him to refuse to let bills go to the senate floor to be voted on. Also, we might then be able to ACTUALLY HAVE ENOUGH VOTES TO PASS STUFF WE WANT TO SEE MADE INTO LAW / MAKE CHANGED IN THE CURRENT LAWS once bills GET to the senate floor. If the republicans keep these seats, we’re most likely going to be back to a fucking stalemate for at least another two years. …By the way, it’s never too early to start looking at which members of congress are up for re-election in 2022 and who is running against the assholes we most want to see voted out.
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise—it’s not a big deal if they choose not the kneel. People on tumblr/Twitter and just hypersensitive to anyone who doesn’t partake in activism the same way as they do. There are lots of ways to protest/show support to blm. Standing for the anthem has nothing to do with their views on blm.
Thanks for messaging me! I think that some people are trying to dramatize this just for fun, but there’s a lot of nuance to the situation for sure.
hi, i can explain a little. first, kneeling has really had a rapid evolution lately. back when kaepernick started kneeling, very few people did it and it was a more “extreme” stance. however, recently, due to the onset of black lives matter protests, and political upheaval due to george floyd and breonna taylor’s murders, kneeling has become more common. during the challenge cup, i believe the entirety of portland’s team kneeled every game and almost every player on other teams did as well. the wnba went way beyond kneeling in walking off the court (i believe). suddenly, kneeling became something that wasn’t actually that brave of a stance. when pinoe kneeled back in the day, she could have lost her job (and she did lose things). now, because of the prevalence, there isn’t actually much a risk. that’s made kneeling into something that’s a lot more doable for people. i’ve always found thag kneeling is a good thing to do, but back before like june of this year, many people saw it as disrespectful to the flag and to veterans. i think that for a lot of people who have had a personal thought of “that’s not for me,” they’ve realized what players who kneeled before meant, and how they meant to raise awareness and to protest a country that systemically oppresses black people. not kneeling now has very different connotations in that a person before june of this year would just be going with the crowd by standing. now, standing is the move that requires actual movement beyond the group, which holds the very real and problematic implication that players like KOH and julie ertz basically seem to be holding a flag above the lives of black people. at the very least, it shows a severe misunderstanding of oppression and patriotism.
the united states is a very turbulent country that has a history of patriotism that is overly worshipful (in fact, very connected to evangelicalism), which makes the flag into a scary symbol of “love” for this country. many of the people mad at the original kneelers and mad now at those who kneel see it as disrespectful to the country and to veterans who they think the flag represents. this is really a uniquely american issue in thay patriotism is so screwed up and out of control here. the people on twitter or whatever who are praising the standers are generally conservatives who see the flag as a representation of patriotism and love for the country, and also, honestly, hate that black people are a) making noise, and b) having white people on their side.
i’m not sure if i did a good job of explaining this, and i can always hop back in and say more, but tldr; patriotism is supremely fucked in the US, kneeling has had extreme evolution recently, and not kneeling shows severe misunderstandings of systemic oppression and love for a country (which should be rooted in a love for people, including the people hurt by systemic oppression).
Thanks for the input! I think this toxic patriotism is indicative of a problem that I’ve seen facing the country: that loyalty to a party (or country or whatever) is more important than morality and individual values.
I think we ought to call out the black players to because they are enablers of racism ignorance by staying friends with people who don't care about their lives and those of their brothers and sisters. It's the reason why these white players are like "my black friends don't mind so it's okay if I don't kneel." I really hate that they smile and laugh hanging out together without having these convos and they have "looks" when it's time to kneel and then post some passive aggressive ig stories.
You do understand that soccer is their job right and that they are not responsible for their white friends? They are having conversations (which they shouldn’t have to) but their white ass, ignorant teammates aren’t listening. They can’t be going around ignoring or calling out their teammates or they will be out of a job. Or do you really believe that the black player calling out their white teammate will be valued above Kelley and her army of ignorant stans?
Some black players may find it better to separate this from their social relationships or know they have to in order to be part of the team. You don’t get to tell them they are wrong for doing that.
Anon instead of blaming Black women for white women’s ignorance, maybe actually listen to Black players like Crystal Dunn who repeatedly said how mentally exhausting it was during the Challenge Cup to have conversations about her very existence with white women. Black women do not have to carry the burden of education, and frankly to claim that they haven’t had these conversations when they have since May is disrespectful.
Arguing with white women about mere facts of life due to disinformation and ignorance is not a burden for Black women to bear. Crystal doesn’t enable Julie’s ignorance, you aren’t privy to their conversations. Crystal has spoken before about how she wants the anthem to continue because she wants players to have the choice to kneel or stand to keep the kneeling as a form of protest. It has morphed into a symbol of unity, rather than a straight protest as they have permission to kneel now.
What Julie and Kelley do are their own faults and enabled by white ignorance that has existed since the 1600s. You can’t ask Black women to drop friendships with teammates on their way to Tokyo. You cannot. Because the honest truth is that if a fight happens, they don’t have communication that extends to the field, - the Black player is not as privileged as the white player. They might not keep their job. Just as Crystal feared for kneeling the first time, that as one of the only players of color during Jill’s era she didn’t have the privilege to kneel and feel safe regarding her job.
Anyway listen to Black women & actually watch these videos with Crystal Dunn instead of blaming her for white evangelicals standing during the anthem and inviting swat teams to a Black majority kids camp.

Also tidbit I’m adding; you don’t get to decide what a Black woman is doing regarding racism is wrong if you’re white. For all intents and purposes I can say disagree with Casey Short’s statement from the challenge cup, but I can not say that she enables Julie with that choice. If Casey wants to put her faith in God, that is a choice I can not fight.
Date clarification
So,
I was on woso twitter (I know, my first mistake) and I saw a bunch of people making a big deal about the team kneeling. Could some of the more woke members of the tumblr woso community explain to me why people are mad? Because some people are mad at the players who knelt, saying that they’re being disrespectful and some people are made at the players who didn’t kneel, saying they’re being disrespectful.
I’ve always thought that kneeling was a great way to protest, but it wasn’t a big deal if you chose not to. Now I’m just conflicted.
lindsey michelle horan better not post some sappy tobin appreciation post or i swear to god i will absolutely lose it....
been a thorns fan since 2013 and it hurts to see Tobin go. don't worry i also cried
It’s nice to hear that I’m not the only one who actually got emotional. I feel so stupid for crying, but it was one of my biggest dreams to go to Providence Park and watch all of them play. Then Sonnett was traded and now Tobin.... I’m a total disaster.
This is going to hurt so hard when Lindsey says/posts something. Then when Sinc says something and eventually when Tobin says something.
Oh my gosh Lindsey’s reaction is literally going to crush me. I’m going to be dead, curled up in a little ball sobbing
