I thought I’d reblog this since the school year is starting for many of you.
“Educate yourself. When a question about a certain topic pops up, google it. Watch movies and documentaries. When something sparks your interest, read about it. Read read read. Study, learn, stimulate your brain. Don’t just rely on the school system, educate that beautiful mind of yours.”

Check out this great listen on Audible.com. Don't Panic! with The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe An all-encompassing guide to skeptical thi
I just started it this morning. After the introduction, one of the first topics is memory. That being said, I have always been curious as to why most other students I have been learning beside have the ability to memorize words rather than concepts. It reassured me that my “Dory” memory—from Finding Nemo—is not as simple as I had thought. I have a tendency to remember how I felt in past situations, rather than what was said. That’s all for now 💕
The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe: How to Know What's Really Real in a World Increasingly Full of Fake by Cara Santa Maria
The first 13 minutes of this podcast coincides with my title for this post. I have grown up hearing “the legal system is corrupt”, however, I have been able to sit within my own white privilege and ignore it. In another life, I could see myself becoming a lawyer in the criminal justice system and solving this problem myself, but that’s simply not my path in this life. I appreciate people like the woman in this podcast. She found a kink in the system, and implemented a financial solution for the country as well as the falsely accused. I hope I hear more about this in the future.
This episode really inspired me
Listen to this podcast if you are about to graduate from college and you feel like you didn’t accomplish what you planned to accomplish.
When Lera and her family come to America from the Soviet Union, she decided to learn English within the first year.
“To not be able to tell a joke, or to be able to express a thought—oh, it’s just really painful!”
I return to this episode when I feel like learning Spanish is never-ending. When I was in Spain, I felt Lera’s pain. Studying a language can be exhausting, but the payoff is when you start to be able to express yourself through another language and another culture. While in Santander, Spain, I met a couple who told me that sometimes they can’t express themselves properly in Spanish, so they use English.
Unordered trinkets have been arriving at homes around the country. We try to find out why.
I have always been a fan of a website called Ali Express. I couldn’t help but feel the irony when listening to this podcast.Â
We're in a full-fledged trade war with China. We dig into the list of Chinese tariffs on American products. It gets weird...and delicious.

China/US put tariffs on each other
Is it all for show?Â
This podcast says that China’s Tariffs are on silly fruits. Some have never even been traded to China
We experience powerful emotions all of the time, but what are they? Where do they come from? This hour, TED speakers invoke history, language, science and music to help us think about the way we feel.
“Women over the age of 65 are more likely to die of a heart attack than men” (00:24:39)Â
A man who got caught insider trading explains everything — what he did, how he did it, and why.
In 2016; “Dad, what are stocks? What is the NASDAQ?”Â
His answer did not help me understand the subject much further, however, being an International Business student has pushed me to learn many more facts about and around the subject. I have learned about the goals, ethics, logistics, and the overall environment of trading. One thing that that has not been provided to me is a real-life experience. Of course, I am an advocate for experiential learning (i.e. learning by experiencing), but unfortunately, the education system has not been up-to-par with my standards in regard to providing experiential learning opportunities. To conclude this post, this podcast is one that helped me understand one aspect of trading stocks that I have always been the most confused about. I hope this brings a similar level of understanding to whomever listens to it.Â
XOXO, L
This reminds me of my boyfriend’s friends. He is externally lucky to have a group of friends as strongly connected as them in today’s society.
Listening to this book for my Women’s Gender Studies class.
Last semester (October of 2017), my old middle school buddy, Audrey Ashburner and I reconnected after many years of not seeing each other. She came for a weekend to my apartment in Charlotte. That weekend, I was incredibly confused how this once ditsy, fun, energetic middle school friend had sprouted into the kind of empowering, world influencing, soon-to-be author that I saw that weekend. PODCASTS! She probably encouraged this towards me fifty times that weekend. “They are already on your iPhone for FREE in the podcast app”.
Side note: Obviously, she didn’t change into this great new woman by solely listening to podcasts. She opened up to me about how standardized tests and American teachers have made her feel like that ditsy girl that she was in middle school. So that’s who she was. College changed her and helped her discover her ENTP personality that will one day change the world.
So I gave podcasts a whirl.
Of course I didn’t find the educational, political, and economic podcasts interesting at first, but I quickly realized how much knowledge I retain by auditory inputs. Stand by for other podcasts I find influential and essential to growing your opinions on current world problems.
