2 Summer Favorites

Here are my obsessions as of lately. They’re both items that I can put on with anything for almost any occasion. Who knew that a red could look so natural, or that I could score a pair of sandals for $30? 

Excluding Ali, she’s always my favorite. 

1. Madewell Sandals

I’m quite upset that you can’t purchase these anymore, but I’m so happy that I was able to pick them up before they left. I can and have been wearing these with EVERYTHING from dresses, to skirts, to boyfriend jeans, they match with any outfit ever because they are both tan and black, and are perfect perfect perfect. From $120 to $30.... I got a good deal. 

2. Laura Mercier Lipstick in Portofino

Look at that beaut. It’s extremely flattering to my light-medium, warm skintone, and it’s crazy how I can consider this one of my every day colors for the summertime. I’m so in love with the texture, finish, and shade. A perfect orange based red.

Control Oily Skin in 3 Steps

Take it from me, one of the many extremely oily people in the world--it’s not that bad. 

It means we are less prone to wrinkles at an early age, and we don’t usually get dry, flakey patches that can ruin a summer glow. So props to us, the Exxons and BPs of the beauty world, it could be worse.

I am also the first to say that oil in excess is just flat out uncomfortable and unflattering. So here are the three products that keep me glowy and not gross all day and night.

Step 1: Becca Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector

Apply this ONLY to where you produce the most oil. It just sucks up any moisture/oil throughout the day and smooths out pores in that same area. I can apply any foundation at all on top of the primer, and it makes the foundation more suitable for my oily skin.

Step 2: Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray

I thought this was a gimmicky product until I stopped using it. I find that after you spray this on, you’ll only have to blot once before your skin stops producing as much oil as usual. It’s magic and I can’t live without it in the summertime. 

Step 3: Boscia Black Charcoal Blotting Linens

Any blotting papers will do, but I prefer the dry paper types over the silky clean and clear ones. Just a personal preference maybe, but the bigger size is better for my bigger face. No matter how hard you try to prevent oil from breaking through, if you’re like me, the oil will still seep (gross word) through. You can carry a powder around if you’d like, but this papers don’t disturb my makeup so they’re winners in my book.

The Best Drugstore Skincare

If you want to splurge, I would definitely recommend doing so on your skincare. You’ll see long-term results when you treat your skin well. But if you aren’t really into spending a lot on beauty products, or can’t afford to do so, there ARE drugstore options that will make a difference.

What you need to look out for:

·      Alcohol Free: Many drugstore products get away with being so cheap by loading up on the alcohol content. This will dry the hell out of your skin in the long term, so even if it shows short-term results, the whole point of skin care is to give it the boost to do well on its own.

·      Plain Jane: Even if you don’t have sensitive skin, you want to go for the most basic products available. I don’t like to risk complex products that contain tons of parabens or sulfates. Anything that has a short ingredients list that you can actually read is a-okay.

Cleanser:

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser

·      Formulated by dermatologists

·      Deep cleaning

·      Basic but effective  

·      Works best on normal to oily skin. (They also sell one for dry skin, so you’re covered my dry peeps.)

Moisturizers:

DAY TIME:

Aveeno Moisturizers:

·      Helps to replenish skin and does so without any unnecessary, masking fragrances.

·      Gentle and Oil-free

·      I’d recommend:

o   The Positively Radiant Moisturizer for combination skin, as it helps to balance the tone and the texture. And it has a SPF of 15 which will help prevent future damage.

o   The Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer for breakout prone or oil skin because it treats problematic skin while still hydrating (reminds me of the FAB mattifying moisturizer)

Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer

·      The most standard, safe moisturizer ever that is perfect for normal to dry skin. I even wear this sometimes when I just want a nice base for my makeup, similar to the FAB Ultra Repair Cream, but less intense.

NIGHT TIME:

CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM

·      Light but hydrating

·      Penetrates (ugh that word) deeply and quickly

·      Doesn’t suffocate the skin with moisture

·      Basic and works for hydrating overnight

My Top 5 Beauty/Fashion YouTubers

I’ve been watching some of these inspirational women for 3+ years, and others I’ve discovered recently. But they are all extremely unique, personable, and entertaining. It is so easy to watch an entire video made by any of these YouTubers. I never get bored. So, here they are, in no particular order!

 1.     Clothes Encounters- Jenn Im

Frequently referred to as one of my many queens, I’ve been obsessed with Jenn’s channel since 2012. Her style is extremely unique and inspirational, and her personality is so real and positive. Jenn never fails to put me in a good mood whenever she uploads a video!

 2.     Essie Button- Estée Lalonde

I discovered Ms.Essie in 2013 and I’ve been hooked ever since. Her humor is such a great mix of goofy and witty, and her personality shines brighter than ever with her success on YouTube. Estee is definitely one of those YouTubers that you can watch grow into herself more and more over time, and she is refreshingly real. She has great recommendations but moreover, her videos—including her VLOGs-- are extremely entertaining.

 3.     Hey Claire- Claire Marshall

Another queen of mine, Claire is the definition of fierce. I started watching her videos a little after I found Estée. If her bold and unique style or her gorgeous tats don’t already convince you, watch one of her videos and be sucked in by her sick editing skills. She incorporates her creativity and style into everything she does, from her apartment, to her videos, makeup, and fashion—you can tell it all represents her so well.

 4.     Rachel Whitehurst

Hands down the funniest of my favorites, Rachel is a more recent discovery and favorite of mine. She incorporates her witty humor into every single video and like the others, she shares a style that’s entirely her own. I would love to be friends with her; she is so personable and relatable. Her beauty videos are actually very helpful and still hilarious; I especially LOVE her Hits and Shits.

 5.     chrissstttiiine- Christine

How can one person be so cool?? Honestly. She used to DJ, lives in LA, is the epitome of minimalistic and creates such creative content. So enjoyable to watch and you can tell all of her videos are thought-out well. She discovers the coolest brands, music, and other miscellaneous recommendations. I definitely discover the most underground, new, and coolest things from her.

My mom came home with this cute winter tree from Pier 1 and started to put my necklaces on it, so I can’t take credit for this idea. She recently became a pintrest-mom and I’m definitely not complaining. The watch is from Daniel Wellington and if you have any questions about where any of the necklaces are from, let me know! 

I thought it was a cute way to store necklaces and prevent them from tangling.
