When You’re Broken || Self Para
"Shaaaaang. Shaaaang.” Whipping his head around, Shang smiled as he saw the love of his life running towards him looking like an angel with her hair and white robes flying. They were standing on the quidditch pitch but everythgin seemed brighter, clearer then it had been the last time he’d seen it. Something felt so wrong, but he didn’t care. She was here and that was all he needed. Why was she so far away? Shang tried to run to meet her but he found he couldn’t move yet alone run. Vidia kept running but she never reached him. The more he struggled, the darker things became. Suddenly he was surrounded by fire, everythin was dark and Vidia was right in front of his face, laughing at and taunting him. “Who’d want a broken man like you?” Her voice echoed round and around his head. “Broken.” It was as if she was right by his ear. “Broken.” A whisper. “BROKEN!” Now she was screaming. Shang tried to break away, to move, to run, anything but he found he couldn’t. Vidia didn’t look right. This wasn’t Vidia.
Suddenly the real Vidia appeared, “Li, you need to wake up. Wake up, Li. Wake up.”
Eyes shooting open, Shang tried to sit ip but found he was unable. “Li! Li!” His partner held him down. “Shang! Stop, you’ll only hurt yourself more!” “Harry? Wasgoinon?” Shang asked, feeling doped up. “Shang, I am so sorry. You were hit with a curse, Healer Dawson tried to do everything he could but it was irreversible. You’ll never walk again.”
Great Typhoon || Shang & Violet
Violet caught the scent of the two werewolves moments before they appeared in her line of sight, but before she could cast a spell, he had stepped in front of her and blocked off her view. “What the hell do -” Wait, 3 more attackers from behind. She turned to face them just as she saw the spell dart past her and hit her companion, his scream only fueling everything she was feeling. “I’m so fucking tired of ALL OF YOU!” Violet shouted out, slamming the two werewolves with a spell so that they backed off of the idiot on the ground. As soon as she had a little space she cast a shield spell around the both of them, switching to hold it with her left hand as she began to take out their attackers with the wand in her right.
“YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE HERE!” Picking up that debris from earlier, she swung it into the two werewolves from earlier, hearing the snap of bones as they were crushed. One person behind her got hit with their own rebounded curse, and the other two growled from the outside. Letting out a snarl of her own, she pulled her trick from earlier, expanding the shield spell so suddenly that they crashed into the wall and were knocked out. Breathing hard, she looked at her companion. “First of all: don’t ever step in front of me again, I can take care of myself dammit. Second: What did you get hit with?”
All of his senses were fried. Pain was everywhere. Then there was a small, fierce girl growling at him. “I’m sure you can, sorry for trying to help.” He groaned, trying to sit up, “I don’t know what I got hit with but I can’t move my legs.”
Great Typhoon || Shang & Roz
Roz sniffed. He could see his pitying glances. She didn’t need them. This was a war. Pity had no place here. She was alive. She’d focus on that. “Now what?” He looked older than a student. She hoped he’d come in here with a plan.
"I wasn’t given any other orders except to fight.” Shang admitted, as much as it pained him. “If you want I can escort you somewhere safer, if you’d like?”
Great Typhoon || Shang & Roz
“I’m fine,” Roz snarled. Shock was for the weak Shock was for people who couldn’t handle their emotions. She was not one of those people. She took deep, steadying breaths, cramming her feelings down just as she always did. She hoped she’d succeeded. Looking back up at the man, she saw a Rat wizard spin around the corner. Firing a stunning spell over the man’s shoulder, just missing his head, she hit the imposter effectively. Thank Merlin for Flick’s glasses. She gave a man a tight smile. “There. Now we’re even.”
That couldn’t be healthy. He watched as the girl tried to bottle up whatever was bothering her. Shang was grateful to her just moments later when she took out someone behind him just moments before he could turn around and do it himself. “Now we’re even.” He nodded, not wanting to bring up anything again. She really ought to get checked out though.
Great Typhoon || Shang and Helen
“You’d be assuming correctly. However, I don’t know everything that’s going on. Being retired, I’m not supposed to be here. Most of the younger students and those that don’t want to fight have been evacuated to safe houses, and then there’s a massive group that decided to stay and fight.” Helen wasn’t sure what else to tell him. He obviously hadn’t been an auror for long because there was no way that he was older than 20. Hearing nothing in the immediate area, she let out a sigh of relief. There was no way that she could miscalculate anything and die here. Especially not when she wasn’t supposed to be here and her husband had no idea that she wasn’t at home.
Shang nodded, his face stony as the woman gave him what little information she could. “Alright, thanks.” Would Vidia have stayed or evacuated with the younger students? That was an idiotic question. Of course she would have stayed. The first and second years gave her annoyed headaches. “I knew this would happen. This place’s been a powder keg for months.” He said more to himself than to anyone else. Leaning against the wall, he took a moment to catch his breath. He’d been going constantly since reaching the castle. “Where am I needed the most? Retired or not, you’re the most senior person I’ve seen since getting here and I have no orders.”
Great Typhoon || Shang & Violet
Violet was pissed at everything, but if she was pissed it meant she wasn’t numb, so she kept fueling it, using the anger to push out the answers to all his questions. “Rattigan is holed up somewhere in the damn forest like the coward he is, and apparently he has a fuckton of guards around him so no one is close. I’ve got no idea who’s winning, I just know there’s a lot of dead on both sides and the fighting seems like its basically slowing down. I heard that there were supposed to be a bunch more vamps coming, but they never showed so hopefully that means someone killed them before we needed to. Fight and stay alive is basically everyone’s goal. Good enough?”
A loud crack echoed above them. Violet thrust up a shield charm, catching the piece of the ceiling right before it fell and forcing it off to the side.
So Rattigan was hiding out like the coward Shang had always known that he was. In a way it gave him a slight feeling of pleasure to know that the his former professor was in hiding. However, it was dulled by the fact that he had kids here fighting and dying for him. “Good enough. I’m Sha--” The cracking above them caught him off guard for a moment before he moved to cast a shield but she got there first. “Thanks.” He breathed, watching the piece of ceiling crashing down a metre or two to their left. Noticing movement from the corner of his eye, Shang stepped in front of the girl as two werewolves came from seemingly no where. Engaged in a fierce battle with the two, he didn’t notice someone sending the hex his way until it struck him in the lower back. A loud yell of pain fell from his lips as he legs gave way. The pain coursing down his legs unbearable.
Forgetting about the two werewolves, Shang didn’t even notice them until they were right on top of him.
Great Typhoon || Shang & Roz
Roz shook uncontrollably, her mouth opening and closing. Keep it together, she thought to herself, now is definitely not the time to give in to stupid emotions. But she couldn’t help it. The spell had nearly hit her, the closest one yet, and with it a slew of terrible memories: her father screaming at her neighbour, the duel, the final flash before everything went dark, the horrible, horrible pain…She licked her lips and replied, “I’m fine.”
“You sure? You don’t look like you are.” From over the girl’s shoulder, he saw a werewolf aproaching. “Stay still.” He commanded, his voice deadly serious as he took aim and killed the creature. “It’s not safe here, if you’re going to freak out, I can escort you to the hospital wing where they can treat your shock.”
Great Typhoon || Shang and Helen
This war was nowhere near Helen’s first experience at death. She had plenty of kills under her belt from her time as an Auror, and there was nothing quite as thrilling as killing someone to keep innocent people safe. She had been returning to the fight after helping a first year to find the evacuation point when Shang’s curse had been less than a centimetre from hitting her. She let out a breath that she hadn’t realised she had been holding. “Woah! Watch where you’re firing those things!”
She heard a noise behind her and turned on her heel, casting a fiendfyre curse at the approaching werewolf. With a flick of her wand, a giant flame in the shape of a dragon sent the creature running for its life. Just moments later, she assumed that the anguished growl meant that the fire had engulfed her intented victim.
“Sorry,” Shang replied with a shrug, turning on his owl heel to fire at an incoming acromantula. What did it have to be spiders, he thought with a shiver. “I’d rather shoot first, ask questions later - if you weren’t aware there’s a war going on.” It didn’t seem like there was anyone else around. “I’m going to assume - since you took down that werewolf - you’re against the Rat. Anything you can fill me in on. I wasn’t given much briefing before I was sent here.”
Great Typhoon || Shang & Violet
Violet had gone stumbling through the castle, torn between violent rage and a horrible numbness she recognized too well. She knew she should rest or eat or do any of those things you’re supposed to do to take care of yourself and keep yourself in peak fighting condition, but that gave her too much time to think. It was far better to keep moving and keep fighting until something worse happened.
Right as she turned a corner, someone fired a spell and she put up her shield charm instinctively, watching as the curse shot harmlessly past her. “Never is a big word to say when I just witnessed your shitty aim. Next time try ‘usually don’t’ and I might believe you,” she snapped. There was no point answering the question about being all right. She hadn’t been all right since she was twelve years old, its not like she was going to suddenly get better. And now she had more reasons than ever to be very very not fine. “We should keep moving, there’s no one else here.”
Shang chose to let her snappy words pass, the things the inhabitants of the castle must have seen since the war had broken out would have been enough to rattle anyone’s bones. “You’re right.” He nodded. They needed to keep moving. “Can you give me a status report? Where’s Rattigan? Has any progress been made into reclaiming the castle or are they winning? Anything at all would be helpful.” For a moment he wanted to ask about Vidia but there was a chance the girl didn’t even know who she was and in the chaos, how was she to know even if she did. Moving stealthily through the halls, Shang shot felt like he was in a training simulator. When he was in training they would put you in a building and had various things jump out at you from boggarts to charmed cutouts of civilians.
He was on high alert, ready to take out whoever came their way, while keeping an eye out for Vidia and his friends.
Great Typhoon || OPEN
Shang had arrived late to the party. He'd been out on official auror business when news of the battle had broken out. As soon as he'd finished, he'd made his way to the school only to be sent into the castle. The aurora and students on the front line were holding their own well enough but those in the castle were in bad shape. For a moment, Shang's thoughts flickered to Vidia. Had she come back to help protect the school. Her place wasn't too far from the castle. Shit. It wasn't time to think about his ex girlfriend. He had a battle to fight. The interior of the castle shocked him as her entered. Rubble and bodies lay everywhere. He couldn't tell where one side ended and the other began. In his short career as an auror, he'd seen death. Hell, even before he'd joined the force he'd seen death. He'd buried two parents and an uncle. He'd never seen death like this. As he made his way further into the castle, keeping his senses alert, he stepped over the body of a first year and felt the tightness in his chest. They would have tried to get them all out but this girl must have been left behind. A noise from his left had him spinning and firing off a curse, watching as it just barely missed his mark. "I never miss, but it was probably for the best that I did. Are you alright?"
A mission? Where exactly do you work that would require you being away for so long?
Well I'm an auror but I've been working in a special division for a couple of months. I can't really go into it any more than that.
You’ve clearly never worked at a shop have you?
I've only ever worked as an auror, so no. Why would I need to return them though? They're my size.
Are you sure? I have a no refunds or returns policy.
They're t-shirts. Why would I need to return them? Just something to wear while I train and sleep.
"I hope so! I’m going to go get some water, I’ll talk to you later."
"Good luck with the hangover."
"Oh, I doubt that but if you insist. I’m sure ideas will come to you as the games go on and even if you can’t execute the yourself as a team we probably can."
"It'll be a great scrapbook."
You don’t go here? Did you graduate last year?
Yeah, last year.
