On this day in 1969, the Apollo 11 mission landed on the Moon. 🌙 And back on Earth, an estimated 600 million people watched this historic moment live on television—roughly one-fifth of the world’s population at that time! The mission had three crew members: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Collins piloted the craft that would return them to Earth, while Armstrong and Aldrin became the first two people ever to walk the Moon’s surface.

At the official Tales event “Tales of Festival” held the other day, I was able to see Sorey and Mikleo again for the first time in a long while. I never imagined that something so miraculous would happen in 2026. I’m truly delighted and so happy—I still can’t believe it.

I absolutely love seeing Sorey and Mikleo living a laid-back, peaceful life. But lately, I feel like my drawings of them always end up looking the same.It made me lose confidence, so I haven't been able to draw them for a while.

Even so, Sorey and Mikleo are such special characters to me that I could say they’re my absolute favorites in my entire life. I’m truly grateful to the entire production team who brought them to life.

It’s Fossil Friday, so soar into the weekend with Archaeopteryx! When this dinosaur was first described in 1861, it caused a sensation. Discovered shortly after Charles Darwin proposed the theory of evolution by means of natural selection, Archaeopteryx provided an example of evolution in action—a fossil that showed the transition between reptiles and birds. The first Archaeopteryx fossils ever found included exquisitely preserved skeletons with clear imprints of wings and feathers, but also teeth and a bony tail. Today, scientists think Archaeopteryx wasn’t able to fly very well, but the species still represents a turning point in paleontologists’ understanding of the relationship between ancient dinosaurs and modern birds in the design of both its body and brain. Happy Birthday to Mary Anning, the “Mother of Paleontology!” Born on this day in 1799, she hailed from Lyme Regis on the coast of Dorset, England, and grew up collecting fossils. At age 13, she unearthed a skeleton of a giant marine reptile, one of the first ichthyosaurs. In her late twenties, she discovered Dimorphodon, the first pterosaur found outside continental Europe, on the beach cliffs at Lyme Regis. At the time, headlines celebrated Anning and her “flying dragon.” Her discovery proved that these flying reptiles were varied and had a wide range.

Naoko Takeuchi visiting the Kennedy Space Center in the 1990s and meeting an astronaut! She was visiting the Center to do research for her Sailor Moon side story, "The Lover of Princess Kaguya," which was later turned into the Sailor Moon S Movie.

Decades later, when a plushie of Artemis was spotted in the mission control center during the Artemis II mission, Naoko expressed surprise and delight:

“In the manga, he’s the little cat who sends instructions to the Sailor Guardians from the command room,” she said. “That was just a fantasy that existed only in the story, so to think that 30 years later Artemis would appear in NASA’s mission control, a place I’ve always admired, is incredible. I’m so jealous. Thank you for watching over humanity’s great achievement for ten days. You did a wonderful job.”

“I’m overwhelmed that a classic from 35 years ago is still being talked about around the world,” she said. “I’m so happy. It may have been an immature work, but I’m amazed to realize that classics can become timeless across generations. Manga, anime, live action—it’s such a blessing that this work continues to be shared in so many forms.”
