Hello everybody...yes this is the blog that was formerly known as "clickgotheshires" now I've rebranded to lithiumlolastrikesagain.
You will still find the same funny yaps, rants, comments, and taunts on this blog, so don't fret. And anyway clickgotheshires wasn't even funny I don't know why I even thought of that fucking name (as if the new one's any saner lmao).
This is the same username of my instagram but I deactivated that. Because Insta algorithms have gotten so bad that I have to temporarily go cold turkey simply because I won't stop seeing such brutal content on the same app which is my only source of communication with almost all of my IRL friends.
I watched Lisztomania to celebrate my birthday a few years ago and I am firm in my belief that everyone who watches it in full should get a certificate of completion
Sometimes I feel guilty for not listening to The Who as much because Pete Townshend said he was a z10n1st. But I still have TKAA, Who By Numbers, a few other singles, and I feel even guiltier becasue should I separate the art from the artist?
Also that copy of TKAA holds great sentimental value, I bought it from a shop that no longer exists 😔
I love how my local music scene has that blog that's been running since the early 2000s so if you're ever hunting down a band in my local area chances are you'll find it
this blog is dedicated to transcribing the nagra reels: 97 hours of bootlegged audio from the beatles get back sessions
as you may or may not know, this project was started by someone who has since left the beatles community here on tumblr, but they have kindly let me take up the mantle for them. so huge thank you to them!!
ABOUT THE NAGRA REELS
in 1969, during the get back sessions, director michael lindsay-hogg was creating Let It Be, a documentary about the beatles. he filmed and recorded every moment of them in the studio, resulting in 97 hours of content on nagra tape recorders. (peter jackson used a lot of it for The Beatles: Get Back, but obviously not nearly all of it.) in short, the tapes were stolen, bootlegged, and eventually digitized. but there's still no full transcription of them publicly available, so that's what I set out to do!
thank you to: purple chick, pc_eclipse, hexer, rogerlancelot, and jameskg for doing all the hard bootlegging work in the 2000s.
i'm using the version available on the internet archive, as i do not have the patience nor the storage for flacs. lol.
INFO
my track title format is: Disc- TrackNo- Title DDSI
for example: D1- 08- Don't Let Me Down 2.01
the track tagging is not 100% accurate! it was done by jameskg, and a small bit of it is incorrect. in the name of a smooth readalong experience, i won't be fixing any of those errors. they're not huge ones anyway. i'm sure you won't even notice.
i'm using the format that the original blog kickstarted, and half of the first day heavily utilizes their transcriptions (thank you again!)
each day will be separated into posts corresponding with discs. if necessary, the discs MIGHT have to be separated into multiple posts. but that's insanely tedious, so i'm trying my best not to do that.
each post is going to be LONG. be warned.
i want this to be as accurate as possible, so please shoot me an ask/comment/dm if you find any mistakes!
ABOUT ME
my name is sash!
i'm 18 and doing this all on my own, so please be patient
genuinely one of the most understated/underrated elements of paul's songwriting abilities (and something that is undervalued and underappreciated when it comes to discussions of songwriting in general) is the ability to match his lyrics, tonality, enunciation etc with the rhythm and beat of his songs.
e.g. I'm listening to Lost Horizon right now, and it's such a perfect example of his ability to weave movement and sensation into his word choice and placement of specific lyrics within his melodies - the bounciness and abruptness of "that sound, can lift me up-" it DOES lift you up! it leaves you suspended! also the way he sings "breaks" in "day breaks, along the lost horizon". he doesn't try to force too much into a single line or verse, rather he's so good at fitting his lyrics into the space that is there within the song, and vice versa. (obviously there are exceptions to this, but y'know.)
aka good lyricism isn't always about intricacy or many layers of complexity - and obviously paul does this, as well, but i think his 'simpler' songs are such a testament to just how much of a wordsmith he is. Down South is another great example off Dungeon Lane, as well as Home To Us, in terms of songs with lyrics that are simple on the surface but still perfectly match the intent of those two songs, and the storytelling, etc. (elliot roberts has a great discussion of this in his dungeon lane review video!)
anyways this is such a basic/small thing but it's also not small or basic at all; I think it's where so much of his brilliance lies and why even his simplest songs/lyrics (and this goes for a lot of his 'simple' beatles songs, too) just sweep you right under, and, well, lift you up!!
P.S.- if I keep tagging you in these and you don’t want me to, please tell me! I’m sorry if I always tag you, these are just the moots that come to my mind first!
