on the topic of disabled characters, though, i think a LOT of artists give characters mobility aids that their character wouldn't actually benefit from using.

i'm sort of having a mild brain fog moment rn so i can't fully articulate what i'm on about, but i think a lot of able-bodied artists view things like canes and crutches as interchangeable. and they often don't know enough about the wide range of mobility aids to make an informed decision about what their character might actually use based on their disability

i also think that aids like walkers and rollators are sort of viewed as "cringe" on some level, and many people view them to be "just for old people," so many artists will opt for giving a character who has full-body pain and fatigue a cane (which, in many cases, can potentially WORSEN full-body pain) instead. and a lot of people don't realize that most wheelchair users are able to walk, so they don't consider it an option for characters with chronic pain

idk it's kind of frustrating. i've genuinely never, ever seen a character that uses a rollator before. not once. i cannot name a single one. i know of multiple ocs who are described to have full-body pain, dizziness, and fatigue that are drawn as cane users and are never shown with wheelchairs or walkers, though

it's also sort of sad? i've been diagnosed since i was twelve years old, and i only heard of rollators LAST YEAR. and that was only because i saw one irl and immediately asked what it was. i wonder how many disabled people out there don't even know it's an option solely because they're completely underrepresented online and in media

if you're a creative with a disabled oc, PLEASEEE check out this link. it's a very nice and detailed guide for telling which mobility aids suit someone's needs best. it's incredibly important to make the right choice for your character! mobility aids tell you a LOT about someone's lived experience. picking the right one will communicate to your audience #1 what your character goes through #2 that you UNDERSTAND what your character goes through!

“Do it scared” “do it alone” are all great tips, but my biggest takeaway from therapy is do it messy. This is especially true if you’re getting out of a burnout, which I experience often. Literally just do it messy. You don’t need to pick the perfect trail to walk, the perfect playlist to listen to, whatever the fuck it is. You don’t need to have a meticulous to do list and wake up at the exact time you planned and drink the exact amount of water you planned to drink. Like the biggest thing for people like me to remember is sometimes it’s okay to do it messy. Put on a random yt workout and just get it done in sweats. Do 5 minutes of a daunting task and go from there. Sometimes just getting up is a win during intense burnouts or depressive funks. Literally just do it messy.

We have got to stop framing our oppression in ways that promote the idea that other people cannot relate to our struggles. Not only does it isolate comrades in the struggle, it actively diminishes recognition of other struggles--often including those even more horrific than what we are at risk of. And this happens especially between Gay and Black struggles.

"when have straight people ever had to check what states were safe for them?" Sundown towns are still a thing. Starlight tours. What states have abortion access? What states have open carry? What states have stand your ground? What states have 3-strike rules? Women, people of color, disabled people, immigrants, and more have had to be abundantly cautious where they travel to. Straight trans people have much more travel risk right now than gay cis people.

It's a new iteration of the same tired question: "imagine if straight people weren't allowed to marry" interracial marriage in the US is younger than my parents. We disgrace people of color by forgetting their history and contemporary struggles, and we abandon queer people of color, Black queer people, by segmenting their overlapping fights.

Would you believe me if I said the new minions movie is too smart for its own good. There are constant jokes about the 1920s film industry it is obscene. Every single insane crazy thing is played completely straight. Every bit of it. It’s actually incredible.

So for example the minions are all following this guy Dort. And Dort claims to be an extraterrestrial alien robot who was sent to judge humanity to see if they should be invaded. But then he falls in love with a suffragette and part of the montage of their love story is him and the minions marching for women’s rights with her. At the end of the movie it’s revealed that he’s not just a dude larping but a literal actual alien robot with a ufo. And then he and the suffragette get married and she gives birth to a walkie talkie I am being completely truthful here

Like the whole movie it is completely played like this guy is not a real robot and just a regular guy. And you keep waiting for the reveal that he’s a normal man. But no. He is an actual alien. And the worst part about this is it makes sense in the metatextual themes of the story. Because at the end you learn this entire movie was directed by the minions. Like the final shot of the film the minions yell cut and you zoom out to the set. So it makes perfect sense that the minions would think this guy was a real robot bc that’s how they operate. This whole insane movie is written as if the minions themselves wrote it AND THAT IS THE POINT. IT IS BY DESIGN DO YOU SEE WHY THIS MOVIE IS KILLING ME

Seeing dude bros fall for Law's front he puts on is so funny. "He is a cold badass, he will cut you down with no remorse." Brother he tatted memories of one of the few ppl who showed him love all over his body, named his crew after the guy, and cries when he realizes he wasn't saved to fulfill a mission but because someone just loved him and wanted him to live. He loves comics and robots, he says he hates helping ppl while actively helping them. He let's ppl think he is dark and evil when he has avoided killing most ppl. Once he realizes the Straw Hats don't want him to feel like he owes them, he actively views them as a safe space to run to and sometimes loses himself to their antics. He tattooed death on his knuckles not because he causes it but to remind him that he is a doctor and he holds life and death literally in his hands when operating on others. His best friend is a polar bear in a jumpsuit.

He is cool, but first and foremost he is a repressed nerd with attachment issues.
