I think about this a lot when it comes to canon. About how Voldemort didn't care/notice about Regulus being dead/gone. and idk. it feels off.

Like the House of Black was very obviously one of his biggest supporters and backers, full of competent (if a little mad) wizards who believed in his end goal 100%. When one suddenly drops off the face of the earth, someone as paranoid as Voldemort DEFINITELY notices. It just also coincided with his ego. While canonically his ego ended up being right in the end, if he even thought there was a whisper of a chance that Regulus survived it would be different.

Regulus, despite all of his efforts, loves James. He really, really does.

It's something he has to remind himself of, occasionally, but it's true.

Even when James stands over him, running his fingers through his hair and giving the occasional gentle tug.

"Come on, Love. How long have you been here?" He asks, again. Regulus just tries to tune him out, scribbling down notes as he flips through the three-odd books surrounding him on the desk. It's important research, and it hasn't been that long. It's an off day and he started after breakfast. He'll stop at lunch.

"You can't ignore me forever." There's a smile in his voice, Regulus is sure that he's thoroughly amused, but wait until later tonight. He won't find this ignorance funny then.

Regulus flips another page on one of the books, scanning the words and taking a moment to analyze the diagram. Not entirely useful. He flips the page of another.

"Love?" He hears, "Come on Love, I'm sure you're hungry."

Regulus heaves a sigh, flipping to another page.

"In a minute." He finally responds.

James' smile is still audible, humming softly as he pulls out the chair next to Regulus and sprawling across the table top.

"Alright. But I'm holding you to that."

The source that is spreading the rumor is shoddy, yes, but if you 🫵 are only upset at the fact that ATYD might be taken down from AO3 and not the everything else when it comes to the topic of publishers obtaining and scrubbing fanfiction I have no respect for you because this is about so much more than just it being taken off of AO3.
