Only the Beginning

There was a stir in the House. She could feel it in the walls. It was strange knowing when this place had a new guest, prisoner was a better word. More often then not Thea was sure this place was alive, something was keeping it alive. Maybe it wasn’t alive, it was called the house of the undying for a reason. It lingered in between, maybe the house was dying, maybe that was the change. But she’d rather not dwell on it. She was trapped either way. Her chain only let her go so far, she could see the cell door, but she could not reach it. 

Her blessing hadn’t been so in some time. She curled up tight in the corner, feeling a sharp pain where her left calf once was. Thea could heal just about anything, but not herself. And not a missing limb. She hummed a lullaby she remember from her lost childhood. She couldn’t really remember who sang it to her, and the words had faded with time. Most of her loved ones faces were gone, isolation did that to a person. 

Once she felt a little more at ease, she started to pray, she didn’t pray for a way out anymore. She knew that didn’t work, she mostly prayed for peace of mind. Her sanity tended to fade in and out, hallucinations were not uncommon. Most of them nightmares. The warlocks kept her fed enough to keep her alive, that is all they wanted, her to live a long life. A long life in which she served them as they drained her life, her energy.
