since tumblr is us-centric, this is probably going to be one of the only posts about it, but here it is. 

early this week, naomi musenga, a 22-year-old black woman, called the samu, our equivalent of 911, because she was suffering from extreme stomachache and had a fever. when the operator picked up, naomi was out of breath, as if she had difficulty breathing, and was basically begging for help, saying that she was going to die. you’d expect them to be worried about her and do anything in their power to help, right? 

wrong. 

the operator who took the call - and another colleague of hers - proceeded to make fun of her, not taking her seriously and saying that “everybody dies eventually”. the operator threathened to hang up on naomi because she wasn’t clear enough, because of the fact that she was in pain? because of her accent?the operator told her to call either sos doctor or her attending physician because “she couldn’t do it for her”. after she did call sos doctors - and taken seriously - she was rushed into the ER before dying of a heart attack, six hours after she called the samu.

naomi musenga was only 22. she has a daughter, who now has to grow up without a mother because of racist - yeah, this is about racism and bigotry and just plain hatred - women who didn’t want to do their jobs.

hey everyone. i’m in a rough situation right now. the full story is in the link, but the short version:

last year, i had cancer. i survived! but i suffered from chronic fatigue for months after my treatment. although i had to resume work, i still wasn’t fully well and ended up losing my job. i had some savings, but the money ran out fast, and now i’m broke. i don’t have money to move somewhere in town, and no family that i can safely live with.

BUT! the good news! two super wonderful friends of mine, @bombchel534​ and @puppystorm​, have offered to take me in.

the catch: they live in California.

this is actually a really good thing; i’ve been hoping to move out west from Michigan for a long while, for lots of reasons (more details here). but driving across the country and establishing residency in a new state costs money. i’m worried that without anything to get by, i’m going to be in real trouble.

i have about ONE MONTH before the trip, so i need to meet my expenses asap. i’ll be doing whatever i can to make money on my own between now and then, but i still need all the help i can get.

i know fundraisey-donationy things can feel really guilt inducing if you don’t have money to help, so there is NO pressure to anyone, mutuals etc, if you can’t donate. but please boost and share if you can; the more folks who see this, the better chance i have. if you’re not up to sharing, send me whatever good vibes you can.

Trump Bans Transgender People From Fighting In The Military

Unfortunately, this is not surprising coming from this president who doesn't care about anyone but himself, but also because the way society still negatively treats transgender people. Transgender people have been serving the country for years now, on the battle field and off of it. 

Don’t let the fact that Trump finally used auto correct to actually make complete sentences fool you, he doesn’t care about the costs, it has nothing to do with medical matters, and EVERYTHING to do with bigotry and prejudice. And let’s humor it for a second, that this really does have to do with costs. Billions of dollars are given to the military, the fact that you can’t “afford” transgender medical expenses is the equivalent of saying that women couldn’t serve because they had their periods, and needed extra hygiene products only a couple decades ago. That “problem” was budgeted and solved and this argument is no longer supported logically. 

Transgender people have fought harder than the whole acronym combined. They are the firsts ones to fight, and the last ones to obtain all their rights. WHY IS THAT. My fellow members of the LGBTQ community and allies, please stand together on this. Come out in droves as we do for the other letters and don’t let this pass under the radar. Be loud, and please fight for our transgender friends, colleagues, and loved ones as they have done countless times for us.

Happy Juneteenth! This holiday marks the end of the official institution of slavery in the United States, and was historically widely celebrated by black Americans. The photo above is of a 1905 celebration in Richmond, Virginia.

On this day in 1865, enslaved people in Texas were informed of their freedom, two years following the Emancipation Proclamation. Also on this day, the Civil Rights Act of 1963 was passed, after an 83 day filibuster in the US Senate. This is the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth, meaning that official chattel slavery ended in the United States only six generations ago. 

This is an important day to remember and honor all those who struggled against this titanic evil- those whose names we know, and the countless others whose resistance was not recorded and lost to history.
