Gotta love bowhunting literally in your own backyard. 250 pounds of venison incoming. These two whitetail 8-pointers were taken from a tree stand about 20 yards away from my kids’ playscape in our backyard about ten minutes apart. Funny story: after my cousin double-lunged the first one, another buck came running in to the area to mock the first. As he was goring the newly dead body with his antlers to show he reigns supreme, he became the second buck of the day. Guess the rut will do that to you. We do have an incredible little spot for all kinds of pre-forest wildlife with the woods and the stream that flows through the valley about 40 yards below this. Black bears, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, owls, tons of chipmunk and squirrels, red tailed hawks . . . the whole menagerie. The deer are incredibly overpopulated in this suburban area; there isn’t a day that I don’t see half a dozen at least. Sad that hunting season is going to end so quickly for us though... At least the freezer is packed.
