Revising Demo Reel Pieces
For this assignment I will be going back through my animations I did last semester and decide on which ones I would like to include in my demo reel, so I found two pieces that I wanted to take apart and revise.
PIECE #1
This is a 2D Animated piece of a boy hitting a baseball. I thought this was short and simple to throw on my reel as well shows practice with timing.
OLD
REVISED PIECE
CHANGES
The changes I made for this new piece were the following:
- changing the background
- re-drawing the frames
- changing the pace and timing
- adding colour hues and shading to the character
- re-sizing the sand mound
CONCLUSION
Overall I am very pleased with the outcome of my piece. I feel it looks professional and a lot more put together like my original piece was. I think the semi-realistic background and less detailed character adds interesting contrast and allows you to separate the two.
PIECE #2
My second animation I chose to revise was a girl laughing and then taking a seat. This is a short cute piece I’d like to have on my reel that shows character emotion change.
OLD
REVISED PIECE
CHANGES
- added a background
- changed the timing on the animation
- added colour hues to make it fit
- changed the outline colour from black to a soft brown
- changed the screen resolution from a square to a rectangle widescreen
- added shading and depth to the character
- increased the frame count
CONCLUSION
I am pleased with the outcome of the piece and feel like it is definitely stronger than the previous version. The background shows more about the character and makes it look a little more interesting and with the shading and atmosphere I feel it looks like a professional piece that I would like to have included in my demo reel and that I am proud of.
