Writing this on a blog I forgot about and no one I know follows specifically to say idk why my brain thought general anxiety was a good thing to have before bed but I am asking politely for it to knock it off!!!! Quit it!!! I hate it here!!!!
Thousands of years ago, somebody looked at a flock of sheep and went, āwell, they arenāt cold.ā
Guys. Guys.
Itās so much better than that.
So once upon a time, goats and sheep were essentially the same animal, and all of them had hair. Now, you can do some stuff with hair, but you canāt do a lot, so mostly sheep/goats were kept for meat and milk.
Except then a mutation showed up, and some of the sheep/goats had WOOL instead. And someone realized that 1. you could spin that shit, and 2. then you could WEAVE that shit, and 3. IT GREW BACK.
Generations of selective breeding ensued. Two visibly discrete species emerged, one primarily for meat and milk, and the other primarily for wool. They also have different behavioural characteristics, because independence was not helpful in a sheep, so it was bred out of them. Sheep remain one of the few non-draft animals that we farm even though they are not delicious.
The most similar part of sheep and goats that remains today is their skeleton. On an archaeological dig, you find THOUSANDS of bones and bone fragments that can only be identified asĀ āsheep/goatā. Itās incredibly frustrating, but also kind of hilarious after youāve spent enough time in the sun.
ANYWAY, human beings have always been smart and surprisingly good at changing nature because they want a sweater.
The entire knitting community needs to hear this.
Oh man Iām so glad I can add this to my arsenal of responses to people who say all GMOs are made of poison.
In zooarchaeology, sheep/goat is a valid category and no one will press you further on the issue.
@historia-vitae-magistras
Huh, I wonder if this is part of why Chinese only has one word for sheep/goat (ē¾). You can distinguish as 绵ē¾Ā āwool-sheepgoatā for sheep vs å±±ē¾Ā āmountain-sheepgoatā for goat.
Here is a lovey I designed for a friendās baby shower, since I couldnāt find one I liked!
the pattern:
For the baseball:
1: MC 6
2: increase around (12)
3: 1 sc 1 increase (18)
4: 2 sc 1 increase (24)
5-7: Sc around (24)
8: 2 sc 1 decrease (18)
9: 1 sc 1 decrease (12)
close up and sew closed, with a tail for sewing on to square. Add red stitching evenly around to make red stitching
The square:Ā
Start with a MC and do one chain three, then 3 DC. then do 2 chains, 3 DC, 2 chains, 3 DC, 2 chains, 3 DC. Slip sitch to the top of the chain three, and this should form the base of your square. chain three, DC in each stitch, DC once in the corner, chain 2, then DC again in the same corner, and go all the way around for each row. Do this in green for 8 rows, switch to tan for two rows, switch to white for two rows, one row of tan, and one row of green to finish out. Then do 3 DC 12 Magic circles, and one TC 18 magic circle, and sew on to form the bases. All done!
Materials used:
for baseball: G 3.5 mm clover hook, and white and red I love this yarn from hobby lobby.
For field: H 5.00mm Boye ergonomic hook, and lime green, tan, and white yarn from I love this yarn from hobby lobby.
For any additional questions or concerns feel free to message me!Ā

I already posted the pattern but hereās a family of elephants Iām dying theyāre so cute
Things That People Have Said To Me Since I Started Working In A Yarn Shop
āi need more of the rowan felted tweed, iām making some first-world-war balaclavas and iāve run outā
āiām making my husband an x-files themed jumper for christmas and i canāt find a good colour for the spaceshipā
ādo you have any wool/acrylic blends on sale, iām making hats for the seamenās mission to give to sailors and i know they say to use acrylics because theyāre cheap but it gets awfully cold at sea and i worryā
āi need some black wool for gloves, but it has to be flame-proof because iām making them for the beltane fire-jugglersā

and i mean, some of the stuff they make is unbelievable. thereās one lady who knits wedding-ring shawls, these enormous lace shawls they do on shetland thatāre about six feet across and made out of yarn thatās basically thread, which you can pull through a wedding ring because theyāre so fine. and thereās another lady who knits dolls about three inches tall and sheās like eighty and sheās done maybe two thousand of them and i found this out yesterday when she came in for a pattern for an entire knitted nativity scene, including the animals and the star. and thereās all the ladies who knit clothes to donate to the refugees and tiny, tiny clothes for premature or stillborn babiesĀ at the maternity unit and hats for the seamenās mission and jumpers for the homeless, and all the ladies making this incredible stuff for their friends or their relatives or just because they feel like it, and itās just, theyāre my favourite, every single one of these people is my favourite
This little lovey is going to my baby cousin who was just born a few weeks ago!
His nursery is farm themed, and I couldnāt find a single pattern that fit was I was looking for, so I made my own!Ā
I used black, white, and dark heather gray yarn from Red HeartāsĀ āMade with Loveā line, so it would be extra soft, and a clover armor ergonomic E hook. For further questions on what I used, send me an ask!Ā

For info on how to make a granny square, feel free to send me an ask. Otherwise, happy hooking!
I made this little bud using one of my favorite pattern makerās:
http://www.thefriendlyredfox.com/2016/06/crochet-amigurumi-bear-pattern.html
Heās also going to a childrenās hospital soon, but I wanted to show him here!
I use yarn in a lot of my projects instead of safety eyes so that theyāre safe even for babies, should the eye come out or the toy be thrown around. He measures out at a little over a foot, and Iām sure some little one will love him and cuddle him in the near future!
I used yarn from Hobby Lobby crafterās secret for this one, in light taupe!
For questions on what Iām making or how Iām making it, feel free to drop me an ask!
Gerald here is going to a Childrenās Hospital soon to give some love to some really strong kiddos! The pattern I used for him can be found here:
https://flourishandtots.wordpress.com/2014/08/01/giraffe-amigurumi-free-pattern/
The yarn I used was antique teal and arctic ice, from I love this yarn!
For more info on what I did or how I did it, or general crochet questions, feel free to drop by my ask box!
This little pal was made using this pattern:
https://amigurumi.today/unicorn-pony-crochet-pattern-free/
just so everyone knows, the finished unicorn will be about 10 inches across (minus the tail) and be a lot bigger than palm sized, the normal size of amigurimi
I made it for my best friend who loves pastels, so I used some baby pink cotton yarn from hobby lobby with little sparkles in it, some plain white, and some pale yellow and pale lavender! I would tell you where to find them, but they were all gifts from a friend who decided to hang up her needles (boo!) her loss is my and my friendās gain, and this little bud has been namedĀ āSleeping Uniā and hangs out on Baileyās desk!
For more info on what I used, or how I did anything, feel free to shoot me an ask! I can try my best to answer any questions! Happy hooking!
This little cutie was made using this pattern:
http://www.allaboutami.com/elephantpattern/
I used:
mainstays basic yarn in medium gray heather from Walmart (only 2 dollars! college kid bargain shopper)
The clover E hook (I learned awhile back that it was better to have the more expensive hook and save my fingers)Ā
some safety eyes from amazonĀ
and some fabric also from Walmart for about a dollar!
Iāve named her Ellie and sheās going to be keeping the pillows on my bed company! For any questions about how to make it or anything else I havenāt covered, come chill with me in my inbox!
