I have just learned that Mountain Goats are NOT, in fact, actual Goats.
I have never heard of this band. I AM in fact referring to the animal.
But wait, there’s more!
Random writing tips that my history professor just told during class that are actually helpful
Download all your sources or print them so you can turn off your wifi
Give your phone to someone
Just. WRITE. Writing is analysing, you’ll get more ideas as you write. It doesn’t need to be perfect, for now you can just blurt out words and ideas randomly. You can fix it later.
Create a skeleton/structure before writing.
Stop before you get exhausted. It’s best to stop writing when you still have some energy and inspiration left, this will also motivate you to get started again next time.
Make a to do list
Work in bite sizes. Even if it’s not much, as long as you put some ideas on paper or do some editing.
Simple language =/= boring language, simple language = clear language.
About 4 to 5 footnotes/citations per page.
Own your words. If they are not your words, state this clearly in the text, not just in the footnotes.
STOP BEFORE YOU GET EXHAUSTED. Listing it again because it’s easily one of the best tips a teacher has ever given me.

A study buddy
The busier my week is, the slower I get. I think it's because I know that if I finish task 1, 10 other tasks are still waiting. No matter how fast I go, it doesn't feel like I will be able to rest before Sunday.
Finished today's big task. I'll take a small break before deciding what the next priority needs to be.
Bringing you the highest quality Study With Me videos to increase your productivity and make your studying/working experience more enjoyable
I could not use my usual study playlist anymore because all the music reminded me of my father, who recently died. So I decided to take studyblr's advice and try some Study With Me videos, and I'm surprised by how well this works.
Granted, this is the only channel that I have tried so far, but I like the built-in timers, the calm atmosphere and the motivation that you get from seeing someone else study.

Hello Henry,
I just wanted to know if you have any technique for understanding deep philosophical works
I am not sure I would call it a technique, I can give you some suggestions as to what I do and may help but I do believe we all grapple with text in our own way and need to find a way that suits us.
Read a summary. Yes, a summary will not cover all the technical details of the argument but you benefit greatly from knowing what a philosopher will write about
Read it twice. I tend to advise that when you read a vvery technical text, to read it twice. The first time you just read through it, pretend as if it is a novel. This way you familiarize yourself with the text and even if you don't understand all of it, you will pick up some core ideas and themes. The second reading is a proper close reading where you try to understand what exactly happens and why.
Annotate. Actively reading will always make you a better reading. What your annotations look like though is completely up to you. I tend to underline main arguments and add comments - explaining things to myself, relating it to another philosopher or rephrasing a sentence that I know I will eventually forget etc.
Discuss texts. This isn't exactly part of reading, but it does greatly help with understanding the works. Others have different experiences and thus a different perspective, they pick up different things from you and it is invaluable to share your respective perspectives and combine them together. Remember, while there might be an intention from the philosopher and universal themes, interpretation remains a process.
yesterday I waited way too long to get started, but at least I got the job done.
Once I get writing it all isn't that bad, I should just start earlier so I can relax after.
Even if scihub is blocked by your internet provider they have a telegram bot that gives you the articles provided you give them a doi or issn
Works pretty well, scihub is blocked in France if you don’t have access to the academic internet provider, but this bot isn’t
Also unpaywall is an addon for all the classic explorers that gives you freely legally accessible PDFs when they seem like behind a paywall
And finally, more and more researchers are publishing their preprints for free on web archives, the most well known here being Hal and ArXiv
things are going to be difficult. But you
are going to be difficulter
thats the spirit!!!!! be a problem to your problems!!!!!!!!! mark your territory! !!!!!!!
The holy grail of searching through academic literature is coming across a string of publications that are like:
Here’s An Idea. Smith et al. 2016
Terrible Idea; a comment on Smith et al. 2016. Johnson 2016.
You’re Wrong Too; a response to Johnson 2016. Nelson 2016.
Guys Just Stop Fighting, None Of Us Know What’s Going On; a Review of the Current Literature. McBrien 2017.
Not even an exaggeration.

Hey you all. School is starting soon and havent thought of any accommodations to bring up to my therapist + counselor,,what are some that you use (autism/adhd accommodations but mainly autism) /srs
Will tag some people i trust just incase they have an answer
@squidthing @starrygender @starryvan622 @krispykrememossnuts @kenochoric @autiebiographical @five-thousand-loaves-of-bread @autistic-af
Anything helps! Can be very specific or very general, thank you for anyones help.
This person is looking for recommendations for accommodations they can request for school.
I was not diagnosed until an adult, so I am not aware of what is available. If you have suggestions, please let them know! ☺️
Edit: oh! But you may want to try to get some noise cancelling headphones or Calmer ear inserts by Flare! They reduce the ambient noise around you, letting you hear clearly without the awful background noises!
At my university I have the option to ask for "oral clarification" for my exams. This means that after doing the written exam, the professor will take me to a separate room and go over my exam to look if I misunderstood questions or was unclear. For example, I tend to use a lot of terminology, and sometimes it's unclear to the professor if I actually understand that term or just copied it. This gives me an extra chance to explain myself, but you have to be comfortable speaking in such a situation.
I also get 30% extra time on exams.
