hello, fellow members ! my name is ash, i’m twenty-two, and i’m in CST (GMT-6). i’m absolutely up for plotting, whether it be plotting threads or establishing connections ! i only have one muse currently, so let me tell you about my lil’ enigma that is h e l e n a !
✧ ━━━ 「 CHLOE BENNET, female, she/her」did you hear that HELENA CHEN just arrived at the mutant underground? I heard the TWENTY-SIX year old is on the run FROM SENTINEL SERVICES FOR MURDER. It’s such a shame it had to come to that, but we’re glad they’re able to bring their SELF DETONATION to our team, they’re sure to be a great addition to the rebellion. i’ve heard rumors going around that they’re impetuous and cynical, as well as inquisitive and resolute. in due time, we’re bound to unravel the truth. will THEY survive the war? ╳ CHARACTER AESTHETIC: leather jackets, crumpled newspapers, crimson, muffled laughter, ash- or ink- covered hands, rebellion, skeletons in a closet, midnight walks, old history books, messy handwriting, irritatingly smug smiles, skinny jeans, chaotic good. (Ashley, 22, CST, She/her)
helena frances chen was born and raised in a small-town in arizona, the third generation of her family to live in her exact neighborhood. she is the product of a shotgun wedding, her parents getting quickly engaged at the age of seventeen. they were the picture perfect family of three, attended church every sunday, helena got solid grades, volunteered at every town event. she stayed under the radar for most of her life, known as the product of a happy-ever-after story between two high school sweethearts. at least, until age seventeen, when a tragic explosion left herhomeless and an orphan. she was sent to live with her mother’s sister across town for two years, until her aunt discovered something quite terrible and helena was never seen in her town again.
this is the story of helena chen. unfortunately, the story is much more grim for those who bothered to read between the lines.
the truth about her beautiful little family ? her mother was a beautiful, kind-hearted woman who dreamed of studying history, traveling the world, and coming back to settle down in good ol’ arizona. she was also a mutant, with the ability of light manipulation. her father, although very intelligent and charismatic, was emotionally and verbally abusive their entire relationship and marriage. her mother could never leave the man, always swore he was getting better, even when the abuse became physical. he never laid a hand on helena, but the screams, the shattered glass, all within the walls of their ancient house left her visibly shaking each time, as though tremors were wracking through her body.(if only then they’d realized her mutant gene was beginning to manifest…) she tried for years to convince her mother to run away, even went as far as packing their bags for them when her father left for a business trip once. however, her mother always managed an excuse and helena did not want to go alone.
one day, after a particularly brutal fight between her parents, seventeen year old helena could simply not take it anymore. a scream erupted from her, and her father stumbled backwards, taken aback by her glowing ember eyes. the rage inside her became something she was unable to contain, and the last thing she remembers is letting herself go, her own body and the entire house disintegrating around her.
she was placed in her aunt’s custody, officials thinking she must have been on her way home and miraculously sustained only minor injuries. that was the end of that, other than the crippling guilt and the fact that her aunt was a renowned anti-mutant propagandist. it only took her aunt two years to figure it out. she’d always been suspicious of it somehow being a mutant-related crime, but when she awoke helena from a nightmare only to find her eyes faintly glowing gold, she finally put two and two together. she’d run away to the sound of her aunt frantically calling sentinel services.
after several years on the run, helena eventually found the underground nearly a year ago. however, she has yet to come up with any sort of alias and certainly doesn’t consider herself any kind of superhero. she has also yet to tell a soul about her past. whenever family (or anything personal for that matter) comes up, helena has suddenly turned the tables, leaving you with a vague answer and asking enthusiastically about your own life.
personality-wise, helena is generally friendly although there are very few people she is close to. she is 100% gryffindor, chaotic good, and investigative journalist is her dream career because she loves to stick her nose in other peoples’ business. she’s much more of a listener than a talker, but also does not know how to say no to an adventure. if you hang around her too long, she’s the kind of friend you’re likely to end up trespassing with, getting shot at, hiding in someone’s closet so you don’t get caught, etc., etc. she’s also a big history nerd, especially in terms of greek mythology, one of her mother’s passions. she wants to go to greece one day so she can see it for her.
HEADCANON #1♞♞♞
♞ ━━ although HELENA is her birth name, she actually h a t e s it. anyone who’s close to calls her ELLE or LENA (leh-nuh), she’ll answer to either one. for those who don’t know her well, or just like to annoy her to her core, helena is pronounced “ HUH - LEH - NUH ” and not “huh - lay - nuh ”.
Let her be everything because she is everything. [insp.]
