So. I did it again. I have another half baked AU idea. That may or may not turn into a fanfic. Here we go.
Consider. Zelda AU for Daredevil. Not any one game or era specific/not anywhere timeline specific as of yet but probably after where BOTW/TOTK has recombined the three timelines after the war or ages, just so im able to pick any element from the series to fuck around with.
So, you’d think we would start with ‘oh yeah so Matt’s the reincarnation of the heros spirit in this, no shit’ However no, fool. Bitchass idiot is instead the ganon of this era, Foggy is the heroes spirit, Karen is the princess zelda goddess hylia reincarnation.
Okay so, Matt: reincarnation of demises’ curse of hatred. Following the extra tidbit of info we get in botw with the gerudo marrying hylian men, so he’s got the red hair from the comics, and the whole ‘the murdock boys got the devil in em’ thing, in this case being demises curse, and the triforce of power’s got the red so it all just lines up color wise. So he’ll have this whole ‘I don’t want to be this,,,, prophesied evil demon of hatred, i’m my own person and I want to be good!!’ themeing/arc going on.
Its sorta gonna be like that one artists AU with botw young and not evil ganon being friends with link and zelda, fighting against the curse or something, i think the artists name was cherry.
So, Matt’s the 100 year gerudo male, and while we as the audience know its a trend but not the rule for the gerudo dude to tend to be ganon, I imagine at some point a stigma spawns of ‘hey, whenever the dude whos supposed to be our king is born, he tends to turn out to be ganondorf again, so if that happens, panic’
Maggie and Jack, of course, are expecting a girl, so imagine Maggies surprise and terror to find the kid’s the boy for the century! This would just take her canon postpartum depression that caused her to leave in canon up to an 11,,, so she tries to kill baby Matt,,,, yeah. Jack takes baby Matt and absconds off into the night, cause he doesn’t want his kid dead no shit, Maggie doesn’t tell anyone out of shame for having the supposed prophesied king of evil.
I swear to god I’ve seen other readheaded hylians around in the games, Malon for example, so theyre able to pass Matt off as just a redheaded hylian and get away with it.
When Jack dies (tbd how) and Matt ends up in some either triple golden goddess or Hylia church orphanage, the Sheikah (who are now the Chaste and the Yiga are the Hand) find out, and Stick shows up. They decide, rather than just killing him, to instead, train him into their own weapon against the Yiga, get a jump on the prophecy as it were.
But that doesn’t quite work cause we still need them to eventually fuck off and leave Matt alone voluntarily for a good long while cause he’s ‘emotionally compromised’ or whatever, and it doesn’t make sense for them to do so if they know he’s the reincarnation of demises hatred curse. So maybe they don’t know. Idk i’ll figure it out.
For the accident, the zelda fantasy equivalent radioactive ooze is in fact malice goo (unless i change my mind), somehow leftover from botw/totk era in some tucked away corner of the depths probably, we still get the pushing old man out of the way of oncoming carriage in this case, but, where with someone else the spill would probably just kill them, since matts the one hit, it doesn’t, instead powering up his senses, but still hurting him at the same time and ruining his eyes because he isnt like… a fully awakened demise reincarnation, hes still mostly,,,, human? mortal? hyrulian? theres a right term for this im not thinking of but you get the gist.
I subscribe to the theory that, later down the adult timeline, before the war of ages timeline convergence, the great sea gets pretty much covered up and made level with new hyrule by deku trees forming like, a new layer of earth overtop the ocean (probably magically faster than it would in more realistic geologic terms and timelines), then the water drained out of the depths, leaving the caverns and the sea salt everywhere and old hyrule underneath in time for botw. Also, my own thoughts adding onto it, this is where the sheikah tech comes from. New Hyrule, the one wind waker link establishes, still exists having their train industrial revolution somewhere beyond the Old Hyrule horizon, some Sheikah make their way there, and contribute and expand on this industrial revolution, making the sheikah tech as we know it, and then bring it back to old hyrule, then a calamity happens, still centered on old hyrule due to the stipulations of the curse, destroying hyrule as it was but leaving new hyrule untouched (the tapestry battle in botw) then leaving the tech buried and forgotten about till the once again for the millionth time reestablished old hyrule finds the tech again for botw and totk. All that time, New Hyrule is existing more or less fine and fucking around with sheikah tech. Also, the depths hyrule is not gonna be zonai stuff, but instead old hyrule, like, oot hyrule, because i said so. A reason i don’t like totk as much as i could have is that the zonai don’t really feel like classic zelda. Shhhhh war of ages stuff we’re ignoring the zonai because i said so.
I imagine at some point they either go to new hyrule or closer to the border where the trains are. I just want them to get on a train at some point, see something of the technological marvel New Hyrule is. Also there will be something of the other countries (holodrum etc) mentioned at some point.
OKAY SO, back off tangent, Matt and Foggy, in some hyrulian fantasy equivalent of college, (it doesn’t have to be college, just something equating to the kind of environment college has, cause I refuse to replace a decade of friendship with them meeting mid adventure and knowing each other for like a year) become friends before Foggy finds out he has the heroes spirit, (It would happen post grad, being like the inciting incident for the plot) and so they’re journeying around, doing Link shit, maybe trying to ‘track down ganondorf’ or whatever, the whole time Matt knows hes lying by ommission or just straight up lying to Foggy, thinking Foggy will eventually kill or seal him away, and is so certain that’s whats going to happen he, in his mind, is putting it off by lying. Of course when Foggy eventually finds out he is absolutely horrified but still feels betrayed like in canon. Matt totally is like ‘just get it over with and kill me already!’ or something to that effect.
So Matt is running from his perceived ‘destiny’. He does not want to be this evil demon lord reincarnation, says fuck that and wants his own life. He thinks he finds that in Foggy. Kind simple Foggy, not connected to the ongoing prophecy in the slightest, its a relief. They’re friends for years, Matt thinks he pulled it off and is safe and is free to live his own life. Oh, oh no, Foggys the incarnation of the heroes spirit, he’s drawn the sword, hes the hero of legend. Foggy’s destiny is to kill or seal Matt away and now has to go find the incarnation of demise as well as find the three+ magical macguffins and do 3+ temples.
There is going to be like, a two stage confession, so that Matt and Foggy can journey around doing temples and finding macguffins without Matt still trying to hide his senses and sheikah ninja skills. Stage one will be those senses and ninja skills, then stage two is that hes the ganon reincarnation.
On the topic of Fisk, he is still totally the actual bbeg, but in a ‘the real evil was capitalism and also this bald asshole all along’ way, and he TOTALLY tries to get in Matts head with a ‘you’re literally the calamity, the incarnation of hatred and evil, you are just like me’ type speech.
Also, im bringing back the minish, cause the lore of minish cap is a favorite of mine, and along that vein the sky,,, palaces, island,,, thing ,,,which is like, starting with the skyward sword islands and getting added onto and changed into a more dedicated sky tribe like in MC and later TP when some skylofitans stay. So that’s where the wind temple is gonna be, yes im giving Foggy and Matt roc’s capes and pegasus boots we’re going back to classic zelda items the loss of which in the most recent titles is a fucking travesty.
Ive been talking about Matt a lot, time to talk about Foggy. Up to him pulling the sword, he is a normal ass hyrulian, he doesnt have the triforce mark. But him (I haven’t determined how yet) pulling the sword definitively marks him as the reincarnation of the hero, and he hates it. So much. Whole ‘Im not a hero i cannot swing a sword I do not go hiking this, whole thing isn’t my beat, are you sure you haven’t made a mistake? maybe someone else can do this?’ Arc. The call of the hero is being soundly refused. Peak refusal of the call hours.
He eventually gets a handle on it and can fight. After reveal number 1 and he knows Matt can fight, Matt kinda totally carries the team for awhile and Foggy feels SUPER guilty about it. But he just isn’t up to the task, meanwhile Matt has total faith he can do it and is being an encouraging as possible which makes Foggy feel even worse.
