They started announcing the PWHL expansion teams player picks yesterday and I’ve been so excited about PWHL Detroit and for the first three players announced I was thrilled… and then they announced the fourth and my heart just sank. I am so disappointed that they would sign her, especially during pride month. I literally cried last night.
I went to a PWHL game the other day and I was sitting next to a group of three girls and one guy (my assumption I did not ask for pronouns). And I got excited about an icing in the third period and had the joy of hearing the guy ask his girl friends “what’s an icing” and the girls explain it to him. It just made me irrationally happy.
people are way too attached to the idea of whether their ships are canon or not. like yeah, it's nice when they are, i acknowledge this, but like. you can just make them have a happy ending in your head and it will probably be better than anything that canon thought up anyway?
The entire point of fanfic is to do what you want! I’ve spent many years in the Darcyland corner of Tumblr, and she’s never even met half the people she’s shipped with in passing.
Darcy is a dream character from a fanfic writers perspective. Has she met them? No, but the plausibility is high that she could and would , her place in the fandom is very accessible. She’s the kind of character that can go anywhere , turn up anywhere and no one really questions how and why. Her backstory is thin enough we can mould it into anything required.

This genuinely might make me cry. I already deeply appreciate King Arthur for making the best GF 1 for 1 flour. And having good recipes. But an article posted by them from someone with disabilities about how to do the thing even with disabilities? That’s just genuinely lovely. I know that my bad there is low, but it’s low for a reason and hopefully stuff like this can continue to raise that bar for disabled people like me.

The new Audible Harry Potter series is bad in uncomplicated, straightforward ways.
It is bad because it supports a woman who is actively funding groups that are seeking to deprive trans people of their rights in the UK and especially Scotland, where I live, where people inside the government are quietly remarking that they are struggling to fight against the groups she funds, as she has more money than God. Any money made from this new audio adaptation goes directly to funding these groups and these cases.
It is also bad because commissioning such an expansive series with such a well-known cast (Riz Ahmed?! Come on man) has eaten up the majority of Audible's commissioning budget. In the UK, the only people commissioning audio drama are the BBC (separate conversation) and Audible, and this new Harry Potter series has hoovered up resources that could have otherwise gone to new stories, new voices and money to creators that aren't actively trying to erase trans people.
I am angry at anyone who signed up to star in this, I am angry at the production companies that took on this commission, I am angry that this series continues to have a stranglehold on the UK media landscape despite all that its creator has done.
It is bad for trans people, it is bad for audio drama, it is bad for anyone working in media in the UK right now.

I made the financial decision to cancel one of my subscriptions today. It went up $30 since last year and $100 since I began the subscription so it was beyond time. But I feel weird about it because I’ve had it for five years. But my dad has the same subscription so I’m just gonna use his.
I went to a banned book festival today (I got a lot of cool stuff) and one of the vendors/panelists leads the book club I’m part of. I had only met her in person once before and otherwise was just on zoom. Not only did she recognize me while she was on stage and I was in the audience, she had remembered that I lived in the area and thought that she might see me!
Funny aren’t humans great movement this morning- I went for a run because I’m training for a local 10k race. On the far end of my neighborhood I run past another runner and we both say good morning. Fifteen or more minutes later we run past each other again, on the other side of the neighborhood. This time she asks if I’m training for the local Halloween 5k, I respond with the name of the race I’m training for and she says cool me too. All while running in opposite directions.
Doing my yearly rewatch of the Lord of the Rings and I started crying when the beacons were being lit.

I’ve texted their hotline before. It was super helpful and even if it hadn’t been the amount of time you’re there can be enough to let your urges fade and stay safe.
Genuinely, one of the measures that's stopped book banning the most when districts implement it, is having the would-be banners fill out a form that demonstrates if they've read the book or not. Like where they have the summarize the plot and characters and do a mini book report and give a review. It stops them in their tracks. This is why in my high school, every time someone wanted to ban a book it ended up going nowhere. There was one where a conservative student wanted to ban the manga "Legal Drug" for having a marijuana leaf on the cover, then got the form that required them to actually read and either balked, or read it and realized it was not pro-drug at all. (The other one that reduces book bans even further is "requiring the would-be banner to be affiliated with this actual school in some way, either by being a student, faculty/staff or a parent of a child at the school" because the vast majority of bans are "activists" with no affiliation with the school who just travel around trying to do this in districts all over the U.S. IIRC a few years ago someone crunched the numbers and just 51 parents were responsible for all the book bans that year nationally. 51! In a country with 50 states, with over 300 million people total!)
