the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy is presents a romance-style female-focused fantasy adventure, which is rare for blockbuster movies.
- you are Keira Knightley, the high-spirited and ever so slightly spoiled child of a doting father who happens to be the governor
- every man in the world is crazy about you, from the dashing naval officer who asks for your hand in marriage to the handsome young blacksmith’s apprentice who you met as a child and feel a strong bond with to the devilish pirate lord who saves your life and flirts with you shamelessly and you make out with him once but it’s for a good cause
- you have two weddings, one where you femme it up and then it turns all emo when it rains on your wedding day and the groom is dragged off in chains by another guy who secretly has the hots for you and then you have a second wedding where you dress as a man because you’re the pirate king now and you exchange custom vows and witty banter during a sword fight with zombies
- you are Keira Knightley
- all three of your potential love interests end up on the same ship at one point they have a lot of tension between them but they don’t fight because you told them not to
- a random pirate you knew for half an hour names you his heir and now you command one of the biggest and most important fleets in the sea
- not only that but you became the Queen of all pirates who now obey you and are at your command. You use your powers to destroy the fleet of the East India Company
- there’s a kraken
I’m sorry, KING of all Pirates, please.
The trilogy ends with you getting head on the beach at sunset from the blacksmiths-apprentice-turned-ghostship-captain who is also your husband.
Really Big Coin Skrekkøgle
This is our Really Big Coin. It is big because it makes other things look small when photographed next to it. Actually, it is a 20:1 replica of the EUR 50-cent, you see it being milled out here. We needed to do quite a bit of sanding, lacquering and smudging to obtain the desired look and some climbing to get into required shooting position (you need to get up real high to take good pictures). The result is a short series of photographs, attempting to visually scale down real-sized objects.

Wh-what do you mean it’s from a birthday cake
my notifications are once again devolving into a spirited debate about the ethics of actions that could potentially make someone uncomfortable, and at risk of sounding like someone about to get a lot of irate anons I think we're frankly giving way too to much moral weight to hypothetical discomfort
the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.
there's not a single example I could give that's better than this

D&D has become so much more fun since it clicked for me that I'm not the character, I'm the writer in charge of the character
If you're the character, bad rolls and bad calls reflect badly on you. You want to Win because that means you're doing D&D right, and if things go wrong, it's because you're doing it wrong.
If you're the writer, your number one job is to do things to your character that the character does not like because that gives them the chance to be interesting.
they fucking killed him
“but if i communicate it perfectly then they will understand me” WRONG 10,000 years of suffering
I cannot describe how much I laughed at this.
Sound is VERY important.
omg the way I just CACKLED at the lift/sliiiiiiiiiiiide/deposit
Having seen some births now i can say that dog birth is amazing cos they just slip n slide out one after the other like a little conveyor belt. And theyre so little and unformed. And then UNGULATE BIRTHS ... are amazing for the opposite reason which is that 10mins after being born they are filing their taxes. Unless they are goats, in which case they are committing tax fraud instead
Goats are what is called a precocial species, which means that shortly after birth they are able to do many thimgs on their own, such as standing, walking, eating, and embezzlement
they really don't make Bigass Cabinet For Computer anymore. we were at the used furniture warehouse the other day & they had so many. that's the way things should be. lock away that wretched machine when you're done looking at it

Sophia, the ghost from 1875 who haunts a lamp I got at Brimfield: what are you watching on your device?
Me: oh, just this couple that posts really sweet cosplay reels on Instagram. I don't even know half the characters they dress up as, but I'm hooked on their content
Sophia: cosplay is...fancy dress, isn't it?
Me: yep
Sophia: wait! She's wearing classical draperies and handing him a bow! I know that one!
Me: oh yeah, that's Penelope and Odysseus. I think a new movie version of the Odyssey just came out, so it's on everyone's minds
Sophia: couples still do fancy dress as the great lovers of literature? like they did at those masquerade balls that made the papers, when I was alive?
Me: apparently so!
Sophia: 🥹
Sophia: wait a moment, why are you sad?
Me: oh, just thinking how there aren't any lasting or celebrated stories about loves like mine. It wouldn't have been considered a good thing for a woman to show everlasting devotion to another woman exclusively, because you would be assumed to be single your whole life and everyone would constantly be trying to force you into marriage with a man
Sophia: constancy of love has always been a treasured virtue
Me: yes, but they didn't consider it love in that sense; they just considered it friendship
Sophia: it might be that sometimes they saw one and we took it for the other. Can you read those stories and pretend that the women in them feel as you feel?
Me: often, yes
Sophia: then perhaps they did, in spite of the authors' intentions
Sophia: ... also, my friend Estelle never married and frequently compared herself and her beloved Charlotte to Penelope and Odysseus regardless of gender
Me: were they separated for a very long time?
Sophia: she did this every time she had to go to the market and Charlotte stayed home
Me: oh God that's deeply lesbian
The really unfortunate thing about mental health progress is that sometimes you realize you've made it in the form of "wow, I haven't felt this bad in a fucking while"
On the one hand it's a bit of a pick me up in a dark place to know that this will pass because it has passed before on the other hand sometimes it isn't entirely a pleasant thought to go "wow, I used to feel like this all the time. That was pretty fucking bad. It's pretty bad right now too also."
Someday your current baseline will be the sort of thing you consider A Really Bad Day. It does get better.
looking. at you
